Chapter 25

Alex stood there for a moment staring into the reflection in the mirror that was clearly in the spot where he should be, but she was the one staring back at him. Wearing the same clothes as he was, Ash standing there with a hand on her shoulder. "Lex, is everything alright?" he asks.

Alex shakes his head a little bit his eyes going a bit unfocused and turns back to Ash, "Everything is fine, sorry still a little sleepy." She takes the plate of food from the counter and starts to eat, "You haven't been sleeping all that well these last couple of weeks," Ash nods and takes the other plate of food and joins her as she eats "What with the schedule you've been keeping yourself to with your research and all."

Lex nods slightly "I know, I'm sorry its just that this is important, it.." She stops as Ash places his hand on top of hers "Honey, I understand, believe me I do. You don't need to justify yourself to me, With what your working on, if it had been me, I'd have been even more lost in the project than you are. Your work is revolutionizing not only the scientific world, but everything else.

The admin staff at my office are buzzing with excitement about your devices and when they can get their hands on them. And I cant help but be a little excited about it myself. It's just a shame that I cant do much to help you right now, After all I'm just a biologist, not a physicist or computer guy. Well not as good with computers as you seem to have gotten." he laughs "I swear, I teach you just a little about computers and within a couple of weeks you go from being just a light hobbyist to being one of the leading pioneers in computer technology. If anything I'd be a bit jealous of you, If I didn't already have you"

Lex smiles at that and pats Ash's hand then finishes eating quickly "What was today's date again?" she asked, Ash just chuckled and laughed "Its Monday the 23rd, and if you don't get a move on within the next twenty minutes your going to be stuck in traffic and be late to your meeting. You know how rush hour traffic is. And I'm sure you are thinking about doing a little extra work before the meeting at your office. I've already called Amanda to keep an eye on you and make sure your not late. Because you probably would forget about the time."

"Amanda?..." Lex asks a bit confused and an image flashes in her head, A mid twenties girl with blond hair, brown eyes, and a fetching figure, "Ah right, my assistant. I don't remember giving you her number." Lex looks at Ash with a little suspicion, and he just laughs "You didn't, but it's obviously going to be on your phone no? so I called her from your phone, to tell her to keep an eye on you today so that you don't overwork yourself and that she can forcefully drag you away from work if needed when the time comes tonight." He added with a bit of mirth and mischievous glint in his eye.

Lex just sighs "Fine, I wont be able to win against you will I." She gets up placing the dishes in the sink "Well, I guess I will be heading off now then." She gives Ash a kiss on the way to the door "See you sometime tonight then." And she leaves the house taking the long drive to the office. She did feel really well rested, Last night sleep was more than welcome, She really hadn't been getting enough sleep over the last couple of months, Not with all the tests going on. She hit the phone button on the car while driving and called Amanda, she picked up almost instantly "Good morning Lexi, I hope you had an energetic morning."

Lex chuckles, "Amanda, you know I'm not a morning person. If it weren't for Ash waking me up I probably would have slept through the day."

"Yea, you would have. especially since you've been getting maybe four hours of sleep if your lucky, crashing on the couch in the office. But girl, your still a newlywed. How can you be so focused on work with a husband like that at home?" Amanda teases.

"Because I'm wanting to get this new computer tech up and running so that I can lighten my workload for the other planned projects. I'd love for the other researchers to be able to keep up with me. But until this computer is done, they will just struggle, they haven't had a lot of time to familiarize themselves with all this new information, so they have to lean on my understanding of it." Lex sighs.

Amanda chimes back in "That may be the case, but only for what, another week or so? the base tests of the quantum cores have been a landmark success, and you did manage to, with the help of those same researchers to develop a new circuitry board, capacitors, transistors. and well Heck, everything else that basically makes the old computer tech look like the stone age. No one is really sure what to call these things yet.

Add this to the new telecommunications equipment, and not even the tech powerhouses of now can compete with us. There's also the fact of the operating system you've created that is compatible across all platforms, even though it really shines on our own devices, but it does a better job at optimizing the machines use of the typical PC. Granted its not very user friendly but the software department is fixing that, and it should be done by the end of the week.

After which, It will be set for the market. Preorders have already come in for the quantum computers. both at the business level, Obviously the government has placed its order already, and they have first dibs. but even the common man is asking about if we will have some personal quantum computers."

Lex just laughs "of course we will, Its not costing us that much to manufacture everything. Though if it were other companies, this would be impossible for now, But its also why I want to get this out as quickly as possible. Because If we are slow, with just the scientific paperwork, give it about a year or so, and other companies are going to already be making similar quantum computers. I could have kept that information under lock and key, but I really would like to see how fast we as society can advance this technology."

"Always the Idealist, Anyway your on your way to the office yes?" Amanda interjects "There is some paperwork you will have to sign off on before we can head to the meeting, and you wanted to check through the material for it before. We still have about two hours before its scheduled, so that should be long enough to do a final check, the prototype has been set up in the meeting room already, and I have some security guarding it."

"Yes, I'm on the way to the office, I should be there in about ten minutes. Thanks Amanda, I don't know how I would have managed without you." Lex states

"Oh I think you would have managed just fine," Amanda takes a brief pause "Or on second thought, maybe you wouldn't have managed quite as well. I'm still amazed that with how much you can procrastinate, if I wasn't hounding you, that you actually managed to make the communications device and do all that research by yourself." Lex just laughs a bit self depreciatingly "ha... what, cant a girl as pretty as me not convince guys to do the work for her?"

Amanda laughs "Girl, just look at who you landed as a husband, and all he does for you." Lex responds in laughter as well. "I'll see you at the office" and Amanda ends the call

The drive to the office was your typical work commute, nothing much of note, a couple of accidents on the way that thankfully didn't slow her down much. She got to the office and paused to look at the building, "It was on the outskirts of town, one large squat building and a partially constructed fifty floor skyscraper, a skybridge connected the two buildings.

Both buildings were still under construction, however they were functional to a point. Functional enough that is that they could manufacture to a limited extent the telecom equipment, and the clean rooms were finished and operational for the creation of the quantum computer parts, as well as assembly of those same computers.

The plan was for every one computer sent out, two would be kept at the office to switch out and fill all the staff offices, cubicles, research labs and machinery computers until they were operating one hundred percent off of their own computers, rather than other brands, and because the Lunaris systems computer was leagues ahead of the game, as the first commercially viable. and well frankly worlds first actual quantum computer.
