Ding dong**
As the bell rang, signaling the end of the lesson, the students at Tokyo Middle School naturally divided into two groups: the homebound and the club-bound. Those without any interest in clubs could head straight home, but Danial and Fangzhi had a different mission. They needed to make friends and integrate into normal society. For them, joining a club was more than just an extracurricular activity—it was an opportunity they couldn't afford to miss, especially after their earlier failures.
"Geez, just how big is this school?" Danial muttered, looking around in mild disbelief.
"Well," Fangzhi began, flipping through the school pamphlet, "According to this, Tokyo Middle School is one of the top major schools in Japan. That status allows them to request more funding from the government, which they've used to expand even further."
"Wow, no wonder this place is so huge for a middle school. By the way, where's Miori?"
"Oh, that! She mentioned wanting to join a club right away and went straight there. Brother, how about this club?" Fangzhi asked, pointing to a nearby academic club's poster.
"An academic club? Hmm, not bad," Danial considered. "I don't want to sound arrogant, but with our level of intellect, we don't necessarily need to join a club like this—especially not a sports club either. Plus, those clubs usually have a lot of members. Unless you're confident you can blend in like a fish in water or charm everyone like a social butterfly, it might be better to focus on a small or medium-sized club where we can slowly build our reputation and character."
"Wow, Brother, you're a genius! I've always had this feeling that sometimes you seem very mature, like one of the elders in the Sayaka household," Fangzhi commented with wide eyes.
"Eh? Er... ahahaha, it must be your imagination. Come on, let's hurry up."
"Wait for me, Brother!"
After visiting a variety of clubs showcasing different activities and unique qualities, Danial still couldn't find one that fully satisfied his conditions, even after an hour of searching.
Eventually, they arrived at an old building on the school grounds. Although the structure looked eerie and abandoned, however the facilities and overall upkeep were surprisingly well-maintained.
"Err, Fangzhi, are you sure there's a club in this old building? No matter how much I look at it, it feels more like a haunted house to me," Danial remarked, glancing around uneasily.
Gulp "w-well Y-Yes, there's supposed to be an active club here. One is the student council, and the other is the occult club..."
"I can understand the occult club, but the student council? Are you sure it's not the old student council?"
"Emm, I'm not sure, Brother."
"Welp, let's check it out first."
As they stepped into the building, they were immediately greeted by a cheerful and excited voice.
"OHHH, kouhai!! You've finally visited us? Hahaha, I knew our meeting was no coincidence! Come on, come on, let me introduce you to our club!"
Before Danial could even respond, he and Fangzhi were dragged down the hallway by their enthusiastic and beautiful senior.
Slamming the door open, she called out, "HEYYY Haru-kun, Bocchi-chan, Aki-kun, I'm back!! Hehe, look at what I found~"
Sigh "TOMO! Don't tell me you kidnapped them, did you?" Haru's voice came from inside the room, filled with exasperation.
"Hey, hey, that's a rude statement, Haru-kun! They came here on their own; I'm just here to introduce them. Ah, by the way, let me introduce the other members. This timid girl here is Hibino Sakura, aka Bocchi, because she didn't have any friends even after becoming a third-year, so we call her Bocchi. And that one on the sofa is Tomoya Aki—he's shy but a good person."
"TOMO!! respect your senior some more will you?" Haru reprimand his friend slightly
"I-It's okay, Haru-san. Sigh, erm, w-well, it's true hik. Anyway, erm, freshmen, um, would you like to be my friend, please?" Sakura stammered, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes brimming with hope.
Danial and Fangzhi froze, then exchanged a look before tacitly nodding.
"Don't worry, Bocchi-senpai, we'd be honored to be your friends," Danial said warmly.
"Yes, that's right," Fangzhi added with a reassuring smile.
Hikhik* "Sniff, what good juniors..."
After introducing themselves to Bocchi-senpai, they turned towards the quiet, black-haired boy who was engrossed in a book. He looked up briefly, nodded slightly in acknowledgment, and then returned to his reading.
"Err, I'm sorry, kouhai. That boy is pretty shy, especially around people his age, but trust me, he doesn't mean any harm," Tomo explained, her tone softening.
Danial sensed no malice or ill intent from the boy, so he nodded back.
"Don't worry, Senpai, we don't mind it at all," Danial replied, his voice filled with understanding.
"well then back to main topic, how about it? would you like to join our club?"
Danial glanced at Fangzhi, who immediately understood the silent communication. Fangzhi gave a nod, signaling his agreement to follow Danial's lead.
"Well then, senpai, we'd like to join the club," Danial said decisively.
"YATTA!!!" Tomo-senpai cheered. "Three new members in one day!" beepbeep*
"Oh, it looks like I've got some council work to handle. Come on, Haru-kun!" she called.
"Geez, I told you we should've moved earlier," Haru sighed.
"I'm sorry, kouhai. Duty calls, but I'll catch you later!" And with that, like a whirlwind, Tomo-senpai was gone.
Left with Bocchi-senpai, Danial and Fangzhi learned more about the club's activities, including an upcoming trip to a haunted location—a plan, of course, conceived by Tomo-senpai. Throughout their conversation, Tomoya Aki would occasionally glance at them, his gaze intense as if he were studying some rare creatures. Fangzhi couldn't help but feel puzzled by the scrutiny.
As they chatted, they discovered something intriguing: Sayaka Tomo-senpai was actually from the branch family of the Sayaka household. Unlike the main house, which delved into the mysticism of the hidden world, the branch house remained untouched by the underside of the world. The Sayaka family was a fortress, divided into two factions: the main house and the branch house.
As Miori was from the main house and Tomo-senpai from the branch house, yet it seems like the communication from these two house are As rare as hen's teeth if not Miori should be able to recognize Tomo-senpai instantly the first time they met.
In the Sayaka Family, at the age of six, every child in the family, whether from the main or branch house, underwent a series of tests disguised as a baptism to determine their magical aptitude. Those who possessed the gift were inducted into the main house, while those without were sent to the branch house. It might seem harsh to determine a child's future based solely on their abilities, but in a world governed by survival of the fittest, the logic was clear. Danial understood this, seeing it as a way to ensure those without magical talent could live peacefully without being drawn into the dangerous underworld.
Before long, it was time to leave. As the middle school didn't offer dormitories—only the high school did—Danial and Fangzhi packed their bags and began the walk back to the Sayaka estate where they lived. On the way, they were surprised to run into Miori near the old building.
"Miori? What are you doing here?" Danial asked, startled.
"Danial? Fangzhi? I should be asking you that! What are you doing at the student council building?"
To their surprise, they learned that Miori had joined the student council herself.
.................................
A Month Later
As time passed, the trio adapted to their new school life. Miori, with her sharp intellect and social skills, quickly became popular, effortlessly mingling with classmates and even students from other classes. Meanwhile, Danial and Fangzhi preferred to keep a low profile, focusing on building trust with a few close friends. They embodied the saying, "Quality over quantity," knowing that true friendships are forged through depth, not numbers.
At first, Miori's constant companionship with Danial and Fangzhi raised eyebrows. Many wondered why a girl as pretty and popular as Miori would spend her time with the so-called "brothers who couldn't read the room." Fangzhi's chubby appearance and Danial's aloof demeanor made them easy targets for cold shoulders and snide remarks.
When Miori heard the rumors, she was livid. As a member of the student council, she had some authority, and she wasn't about to let her friends be dragged through the mud. She confronted the group of girls responsible, fully aware they had targeted her in a misguided attempt to tarnish her reputation.
"Do you really think just because you're on the student council, we have to listen to you?" one girl sneered.
"Yeah, who do you think you are?" another chimed in, laughing mockingly.
Miori's expression hardened. "It's one thing to dislike me, but dragging my friends into this? That's cowardly, even for you."
"Shut up!" the third girl shouted, her anger boiling over. "You think you're better than us just because you're pretty? Think again!"
The girl raised her hand, aiming to slap Miori, fully intending to humiliate her. Her friends watched eagerly, waiting for Miori to fall, but what happened next shocked them.
SLAP!
In an instant, the aggressive girl was on the ground, unconscious. Miori stood over her, unfazed.
"What did you do?!" one of the girls shrieked, backing away in fear.
"We'll report you to the school!" the other threatened.
Miori calmly held up her phone, a sly smile playing on her lips. "She swung first, and I have it all on video, my friend once said there's no crime id there's no witness from there I learn the importance of evidence after this idiot friend of mine accidentally sneak into my room .So by all means please go ahead, report me if you want, but remember: 'The bigger they are, the harder they fall.' you can expect a much more worst fate for you guys in the future.. "
Danial, who had been eavesdropping with the help of his magic, wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. Fangzhi, clueless as usual, simply looked confused.
Realizing they were outmatched, the girls quickly gathered their fallen friend and scrambled away, their bravado shattered.
Miori exited the bathroom, finding Danial and Fangzhi awkwardly waiting for her near the stairs. Danial had already filled Fangzhi in on what had happened, leaving him touched by Miori's loyalty, though he left out the part about the "accident."
"Its already end. I know you guys don't let it bother you, but I won't stand by while my friends are disrespected."
"Thank you, Miori!" Fangzhi said gratefully.
"Yeah, thanks, Miori," Danial added with an awkward laugh. "And, uh, how about we let the past be by gone? hehe"
Miori smiled faintly, giving no indication that she intended to let it go, causing Danial to sigh.
"Brother? Miori? What are you talking about?" Fangzhi asked, puzzled.
"Ah, nothing, nothing..." Danial replied quickly.
With that, they continued their school day, awaiting the upcoming club trip to the haunted site.
