Chapter - 23 - I believe in you

They completed their rounds and left for the ICU ward to examine the other patients. When they reached the ward, they saw one of the nurses rushing out of the door of the ICU ward. The nurse stopped in her tracks as she heard Ralph calling her and turned to look. She let out a relieved sigh and informed, "The patient in bed no:06, Mr.Alexander has regained his consciousness, Dr.Ralph." Dr.G immediately rushed into the ward and saw he was wide awake on his bed staring at the ceiling in confusion.

Dr.G went closer to take a look at his face and saw a pair of dark hazel eyes staring back at her. Oddly she sensed some familiarity but shrugged the thought and looked at his monitor to check his body conditions. 'WOAH!!! Am I really in heaven?! Is this what angels look like in heaven? Is she the angel assigned to me?' thought Alexander still in a daze.

Alexander looked at her and noticed that the angel also had a pair of dark hazel eyes. "Can you hear me, Alexander?" asked Dr.G, bringing him back to his senses and he realized that he was still alive. He tried to respond to her but he was not able to speak. He started panicking and only could make muffled noises. 'Am I a mute now? How is this possible? I should have listened to grandpa and stayed at home. Where is grandpa? I don't see him!!' Alexander thought while looking around for his grandfather.

Dr.G understood what was going on and spoke, "Alexander, please look at me. Here, look at me." Alexander looked at her with tear filled eyes which brought a small smile on Dr.G's face. She said to him, "Okay, you are doing great! Don't worry if you are not able to speak, it's just a temporary effect because you were hit on your head. If you are able to understand me, can you blink your eyes once?" Alexander felt a bit relieved hearing her sweet voice and blinked his eyes as she instructed him.

"I am your doctor in charge and my name is Gianna. I will ask you a few questions now, if the answer is yes you have to blink your eyes once and if the answer is no you have to blink twice. Do you understand?" Alexander blinked his eyes once. "Do you have a headache?" The team stared at his eyes for the answer but Alexander didn't blink instead he squinted his eyes. The team didn't understand what he was doing. Dr.G saw him squinting his eyes and asked with a smile, "You have a light headache?" Alexander blinked his eyes once hearing her question. The team smiled at each other looking at Alexander's way of relaying his answers.

Dr.G asked a few more questions to make sure his condition was stable and instructed Ralph and the nurses to shift him to the room after taking a few more scans. Alexander from time to time kept looking for something around him and made a disappointed face. Gianna knew what he was searching for so she looked at his eyes gently with a smile on her face and said, "Mr.Ellerbrock is waiting for you at the entrance and you will meet him in no time. Also Mr.Peter is doing fine." Hearing her words Alexander shut his eyes and tears rolled down on his face. Gianna took a tissue and wiped his tears slowly.

Gianna looked at him with determined eyes and said, "You have to be stronger now than ever before and have to show your grandfather that you can handle this. I believe in you, Alexander, so recover as soon as possible." He looked at her with surprise as no one around him had ever told them they believed in him, till this day. Those around him always forced their ideas into him but she was the first one who believed in him. He felt an unspeakable bond between them and was grateful to meet her. He promised himself that he would be stronger and recover fast to show his gratitude towards her properly.

Gianna walked towards the entrance of the ward and saw Mr.Ellerbrock anxiously pacing back and forth. She stopped a few steps before him and called out his name softly. Mr.Ellerbrock stopped pacing and walked towards Gianna in huge steps. "He is out of danger but he needs a lot of rest. You should be patient with him till he recovers and do not push him against his boundaries. He will be shifted to the room soon after a few scans. I hope you will follow our instructions from now on." informed Dr.G and left the ward with Victor, Stanley and Alice leaving Mr.Ellerbrock alone while Ralph was taking care of the shifting process of Alexander.

The team reached the department room soon and Gianna reminded them about the project. She instructed them to meet at her office at three. The team went in to finish with the requirements of the project while Dr.G went to the cafeteria to have a quick lunch as it was already one in the noon.

"Good afternoon Dr.G. I didn't expect to meet you here!!" said Dr.Zane from behind. Gianna recognized his voice and asked without turning back, "Why? Do you think people around here don't eat food?" Gianna continued to place food on her plate and turned to look at him when she was finished.

Few medical staff behind Zane giggled at Dr.G's cold response and Zane felt like slapping himself for greeting the frozen iceberg. He smiled at her and followed to her seat like a puppy. He sat opposite to her comfortably and started digging in without any shame. 'He is such a pain in the ass. There are many empty seats and he wants to sit here!! He didn't even ask permission but already started to eat' thought Gianna as she slowly ate her lunch.

Zane looked at Gianna with admiration and said calmly, "Congratulations, Dr.G. All the best for your project and if you need any help from me or my department you can always ask without any hesitation."
