Chapter - 46 - Gratitude

Gianna said with a smile, "I was just tired and wanted to sleep in for the whole day. Don't you want me to take a rest?" Ralph felt bad for Dr.G and said, "I am sorry to disturb you, Dr.G." "Dr.G, even if we want you to take rest, your patients are unwilling." said Alice in a complaining tone. Gianna stopped bandaging and asked with concern, "What happened to which patient?"

Rick found her actions amusing. Rick was sure that she is a good doctor from the concern shone in her eyes. "None of the patients were happy knowing that you are on leave and were grumpy throughout the rounds. Even Mr.Alexander was disappointed to know you were not there." said Stanley in a tired voice. 'Alexander? I am sure I have heard this name somewhere.' thought Rick.

Gianna let out a breath and finished with the bandage. "What about the patients in the ICU? Did you guys check on them?" "All the patients are doing fine, even the ER patient. You take a good rest and come soon Dr.G." Victor said in an assuring voice. "Okay then look after the patients, if there is an emergency don't hesitate to give me a call." said Gianna as she signaled Rick to hang up.

"Dr.G!" Alice blurted out before Rick could hang up. "What is it?" "I am scared of Dr.Jason." said Alice in a low voice. Gianna's eyes narrowed at once when she heard Dr.Jason's voice and asked Alice what happened. "From yesterday evening, Dr.Jason is asking us to examine the patients even if we have already checked on them. Dr.Stanley examined a patient and reported him but after half an hour later he asked Dr.Ralph to check on the same patient. Like a cycle, he keeps on asking everyone of us. He didn't allow us to take a single minute break from yesterday night."

Gianna couldn't believe how childish Dr.Jason was and said, "Don't worry. I will handle him tomorrow but continue to do whatever he asks you to do without complaining. I will take care of it." "Okay Dr.G." shouted the group in unison. Rick then hung up the call on Gianna's signal. Rick was relieved at the realization that the male named Ralph and the other three were her juniors.

Gianna stared at the unlit screen for a few seconds and looked at Rick again. "Do you want to call someone?" Gianna was surprised because Rick read her mind to the spot. Gianna nodded and told her pass code to unlock her phone. Rick unlocked her phone while Gianna walked around the table and knelt on the floor beside him. Rick was confused about what she was up to and looked at her in confusion.

Gianna looked at him and said, "Why do you look so surprised? There is one more wound in your thigh. Roll up your pants." Rick placed her phone on the couch and rolled up his pants exposing his muscular thighs. "Can you call Dr.Zane from my contact list?" asked Gianna as she started removing the bandage from his thigh.

'Who is Dr.Zane now? Also why is Dr.Jason targeting her juniors?' thought Rick as he dialed Dr.Zane's number. It rang thrice and the call was connected. "At your service, Dr.G." said Dr.Zane as soon as he attended the call. "I need a favor from you, Dr.Zane." Zane was totally surprised and asked Gianna what was it about?

"Can you please engage my team in the ER department for the whole day?" asked Gianna revealing the stitches on the thigh to Rick. "Of course! I will make them work till they drop! Is it because of that prick, Jason?" asked Zane.

"Yes! I don't want him to think that me and my team are pushovers." "Okay, I will take care of it, Dr.G." said Zane and Rick was again about to hang up the call but Zane spoke, "Dr.G?" Rick couldn't understand her juniors and was annoyed.

"Did you tell the police officers that there might be a possibility of an assault on the patient who was admitted last night?" asked Zane in a serious tone. "I didn't tell them 'there might be a possibility' but I told them 'I am sure it is an assault'. Why do you ask?" asked Gianna as she applied cream over the stitches on Rick's thigh.

"I actually called the police officers to notify them of my observation but they told me, they already received a tip from one of the doctors and that's why I asked you first to confirm it." said Zane with a smile. "Okay then, take care of the team." said Gianna and signaled Rick to hang up. Rick hung up the call and placed it on the table. 'So Jason is a prick who is bothering her and her team. Zane looks like someone who respects her.' thought as he looked at her phone.

Rick then looked at Gianna and asked, "Which department do you work in?" "When are you leaving my apartment?" asked Gianna as she finished bandaging his thigh and stood up. Rick looked up at her beautiful eyes and asked, "Actually, can I stay here for one more night?" "Wow Mr.Rick. You still have the audacity to ask me another favor after all this?"

"I know what I did was really wrong. I am really grateful for your kindness which cannot be repaid in any possible way. So, please help me out for one more night." Gianna saw his sincerity in his eyes and couldn't say a no to him.

All this while everyone wanted to repay Dr.G for her duty with one or the other thing when all she needed was a sincere gratitude and here is this man who actually told her on her face that he can't repay with anything for her kindness other than his gratitude.
