Chapter - 150 - Lovesick fool

Mason's and Nora's team successfully tracked the D- therapist and brought him to the anti-narcotics department for questioning. Carlos sat in the interrogation room dejectedly and in silence the entire time.

"We will finally have a lead on the latest drug!" exclaimed Dan. "Our one month's work finally paid off. The Visconti men have received a sentence of 7 years each, while Derrick has received a sentence of 20 years along with a fine of five million dollars," said Kevin. Mike, Laura, and Leo also had the same thoughts and were delighted. The Delta team was finally happy, and their hopes were rising as they faced success in each step.

In the past two years, the Delta team had never thought they would also be investigating a high-profile case. They were mainly grateful to the anonymous backer they had and regarded the anonymous backer as their guardian angel. As they were in their deep conversation, Mike noticed Nora and Mason were in their world.

"Ms. Nora? Lieutenant? What are you both thinking?" Nora gave a polite smile and shook her head. Mason looked at Mike and then at Nora with a doubtful gaze. "Is something on your mind?" asked Mason looking at Nora. Nora looked deeply at Mason and asked, "Don't you think something is fishy? Like it's all a written script." Mason smirked, and a glint appeared in his eyes.

"Not using the Delta team properly will be the greatest mistake your chief has made in his life!" Mason stated casually. Nora and her team looked at Mason with a questioning look. "Because during these few days working with you all, I have understood how capable your team is!" Nora and the team were moved to tears by Mason's compliment and thanked him humbly. "So, that thought had crossed your mind also, Lieutenant?" asked Nora.

Mason nodded and said, "Someone is watching all our moves. They are always one step ahead of us. I can't tell whether it's bad or good. They are indeed helping us but -""But also covering up the real truth." Nora cut off Mason and filled up the blank. "Right!" agreed Mason with a charming smile. Nora had never noticed Mason as a man till then, but at that moment, his charming smile made her realize how handsome Mason was!

Brown neatly combed short hair showing his perfect chiseled face. Dark brown eyes, set handsomely within their sockets, scrutinizing every single thing in his surroundings. The dark circle and the heavy bags under each eye clearly show a deeply hidden torment within him. His charming smile which he rarely shows, and his pleasant character make him elegant among others, despite his tough frame. There's something seductive about him, perhaps it's his kindness, or perhaps it's simply a feeling of indifference.

Nora was lost in her thoughts observing every pore on his face. Laura caught Nora looking at Mason like a lovesick fool and gave a slight nudge before she embarrasses herself in front of Mason. Nora was quickly pulled away from her daydream and looked blankly at Laura. Laura smiled at her with a mocking look and signaled her to concentrate. Nora felt embarrassed, and a blush crept up her cheeks making her face hot.

"Let's investigate Carlos and see what trick he plays," said Mason, and looked at Nora for her opinion. The sudden look from Mason made her heartbeat faster, but she quickly gave a nod agreeing to his idea averting his eyes. Kevin, Dan, and Mike walked toward the interrogation room while Leo and Laura went to their respective seats. Nora gathered investigation materials and walked with Mason toward the interrogation room. Mason noticed her uneasiness and asked, "Are you not feeling well?"

Nora looked at him in confusion and shook his head, denying his question. "Then why is your face red? Are you sure you are, okay?" Nora blushed even more as soon as he mentioned her red face and stopped in her tracks. Mason looked at her with concern and asked, "What happened?" He didn't know why she stopped walking abruptly. Nora cleared her throat and quickly made up a reason. "Lieutenant, you can go first. I need to use the restroom."

Mason nodded and turned slowly to continue walking with a doubt lingering in his mind. 'Did I say something wrong? Or is she not well? Her face was red,' thought Mason and fastened his steps despite his doubts. For him, the investigation came first than anything or anyone. Well, Gianna was indeed an exception. Nora quickly went into the restroom and washed her face. She looked at the mirror and mumbled, "Nora, it's not time for infatuation. You have a lot of responsibilities now. Get your head straight!"

Nora calmed herself quickly and entered the interrogation room. "Are you okay?" asked Mason as soon as she opened the door. Nora cursed him in her mind before taking a deep breath to calm her mind. Nora gave him a polite smile and sat beside him before glancing at Carlos.

Mason felt something weird in Nora's actions. He noticed Nora's complexion was normal now and didn't know why it was reddish earlier.

At the same time, in the monitoring room, Dan whispered to Kevin, "Why is Nora acting weird? Does she have a thing for the Lieutenant?" Kevin glared at him before glancing at Mike and whispered, "Do you have a death wish? Nora will cripple you if she hears you." Dan chuckled and signed as zipping his mouth and throwing away the key. Unknown to them, Mike heard their small conversation and smiled faintly.

Mike looked at Nora and Mason, who were coordinating well with each other, and thought, 'I guess they will make a great pair.'
