Tragedy

Damon smiled as he saw Lilith blush, despite having no idea why she was blushing. Right now, the only missing person from his perfect birthday party was his grandfather. He went to look for grandfather around the house and didn't see him. Then he came back to ask his grandmother for him. "Where is grandfather, though?"

She smiled and answered, "He should be returning soon. He was visiting Miranda's family."

It was Damon's eighteenth birthday, so after a long talk yesterday, Klara and Bobby decided that Damon should choose his wife, so they decided to end an arranged marriage. So early morning, they reserved a meeting with Charles Crowmark, Miranda's grandfather. Charles Crowmark was the CEO of one of the largest companies in the city that worked with advertising.

Charles has been Bobby's close friend since the two went to high school. When Damon was born, Charles was excited and quickly arranged Damon's and Miranda's marriage. However, Miranda grew up spoiled by her parents and wanted nothing to do with Damon, so she was mean to him whenever their grandparents arranged their meetings.

"Why?" Damon frowned his brows. He started to think that they planned to invite Miranda for his birthday, and he was upset.

When Klara saw Damon's expression, she chuckled and said, "Well, no reason to be so upset. We're not inviting her." Klara came closer to Damon and extended her hand to his shoulder. "Don't worry." She added in a comforting tone.

Damon instantly cheered up and went to his room. He bought a gift for Lilith. A small necklace with a heart on it. It was packed into a small wooden box with roses engraved. He knew he was not allowed to marry her, but he still wanted to give her proof of his love. But when climbing the stairs, he heard a voice in his head, saying something that Damon could never accept. "Why don't we kill Miranda?"

"We are not a murderer…." Damon whispered after he quickly turned around to see if his grandmother or Lilith was not behind him.

Then Damon heard the voice releasing a sound that reminded him of sighing. Despite never awakening his demonic powers, he was still possessed, and often demon within whispers to him, giving him suggestions that Damon always denies. "Come on! It is a good idea!"

"No means no!" Damon growled through clenched teeth.

After standing in one spot for a minute and realizing that the demon had stopped talking, Damon sighed. He entered his room and searched for the gift he had hidden inside the wardrobe. After taking it out from under his leather jacket, he ran downstairs without closing the doors.

Damon found his grandmother and Lilith in the kitchen, preparing dinner. Grandmother was preparing the chicken while Lilith was cutting the carrots. When Drake saw the two of them, he chuckled.

"Maybe, I will give you your gift later, okay?" Damon said while hiding the gift behind his back.

Lilith turned around while holding a knife in her hands. She yelped a little when Damon showed her the present box. After washing her hands and drying them with a towel, she asked, "What is it?"

When she opened the gift, she gasped. Tears of happiness appeared in her eyes as she looked at the necklace. When Damon put it on her neck, she wanted to kiss him. The two leaned closer when the Klara phone on the kitchen table rang. Suddenly Klara's phone that was put on the kitchen table rang.

"I wonder what that is." Klara was confused, as she had never received phone calls at this hour. She was a little nervous, as her husband did not have a phone. She felt worried if something might have happened.

She picked up the phone and heard Charles's voice. He spoke fast and sounded angry. Klara tried to calm him down, and when she listened to the last question, she was speechless. "Where the hell is Bobby, I was waiting the whole day!" then he said: "I have a business to run; how can you ditch me like that?!"

Klara's jaw dropped, and a chill went down her spine. Her husband was driving to meet him hours ago. She felt anxious and told Charles about it. "He left to meet you early in the morning!"

Charles's voice suddenly changed tone. He became worried as well. "Wait, what?" He was stunned. Bobby was old. He was not the type who would leave without telling someone. "I am calling the authorities to file the missing person report." And hung up the call before Klara could say anything else.

Damon stared at his grandmother, trying to figure out what had just happened. He walked over to her and asked in a worried tone. "What's wrong?" He could see his grandmother turning pale. He immediately knew something terrible had happened. He was afraid to see the answer to his questions, but somehow the words spilled out of him anyway. "Did something happen to my grandpa?!"

"Oh honey," Klara sighed heavily. She was trying to make sense of everything that happened today. She didn't want her grandson to feel upset, especially on his birthday. After so many years of planning, this day wasn't supposed to be like this.

Damon's mind was spinning around. The voice in Damon's head asked him. "Is grandpa alright?"

The demon was worried; he was a part of Damon and was as attached to his family as Damon was. If someone were to hurt his family, he wouldn't forgive himself easily.

But before Klara could answer, the phone rang again. Klara quickly ran to it and saw an unknown number. Her blood ran cold when she answered and listened to the man on the other side of the phone. She couldn't even form words because she was frozen.

Damon took the chance to speak. "Grandma?" he questioned, looking at her with concern.

A tear fell down her face, making Damon's heart drop. His grandma was crying silently. He walked toward Klara to hug her. As soon as Klara hugged him back, she buried herself deeper into her grandson's arms. She cried loudly as tears flowed freely.

Damon didn't let go of her until she calmed down. Damon kept asking if his grandpa was alright. Klara told him that he was okay. That was the first time in his life that she lied to Damon.

Bobby was found dead in a dark alley. It turned out that a person with demonic powers robbed him; his head was crushed to the wall, making him unrecognizable.

While Damon wanted to believe his grandmother, the demon within him overheard the conversation. He shouted inside Damon's head, "WHAT THE FUCK DO THEY MEAN GRANDPA IS DEAD?!"

When Damon heard his demon, he froze. Lilith came closer to them but did not know what to say; she did not even know what was going on anymore. Lilith was scared but forced her feet forward and tried to comfort her friend. She hugged Damon and said that everything was going to be alright. Damon hugged her back and started crying.

When Klara saw that Damon started to cry, she realized that Damon understood what had happened. She quickly wiped away her tears and kissed both the boy's cheeks. "Everything will be alright." Then she smiled sadly. "It is going to be okay."

The birthday party was ruined, and Lilith spent a few more hours trying to comfort Damon, who was utterly devastated. When the night came, she called for her parents to take her home and prepare some food for Damon and his grandmother.

Later that night, when Klara had fallen asleep, Damon got up, grabbed a bottle of water, and headed outside. There he was, sitting on a swing, staring at nothing. He did not want to cry, but he could not help himself. The demon inside him was screaming at him and blaming the demon kind.

"He is dead. They killed my grandpa!" The demon screamed inside Damon's head. "I want them dead!"

Damon understood the demon's rage and anguish, as it was the same feeling he had towards the person who killed his grandfather. He felt it, too; however, he managed to control the rage through logic. Damon knew nothing of the person who killed his grandfather. How could he avenge he doesn't even know where to begin the search?

The demon would shout inside his head for an en that night so that Damon couldn't sleep. His eyes were red, and he felt tired. The following day when Klara woke up, she noticed Damon's red, swollen eyes. When he saw the woman watching him, he closed his eyes, trying to hide his red and puffy eyes.

"You look like hell." She commented while pouring him a cup of coffee.

Klara sat beside him on the sofa, handing him his drink, as Damon continued staring at the cup of coffee in front of him. "Are you okay?"

Damon shook his head in silence. Even though his grandmother tried to convince him that everything would be fine, there was no way anyone could make him forget what had happened. He dressed up and decided to call Lilith and ask her to come. He needed some company, and Lilith could provide the support he desperately needed. However, Lilith never answered. After waiting a few minutes, Damon gave up and called her parents instead. However, they did not answer either.

He felt something was wrong, so he quickly dressed up, ran to her house, and saw it in flames. His eyes widened with horror. The building was burning, and smoke came from the fire escape on the second floor's balcony.

Damon stood there, staring at the house. Everything was destroyed. The roof was blown off and the windows broken. He was shocked beyond belief when he watched several cars burn to ashes. He saw people running around screaming and yelling.

A hero was fighting another demon and ended up burning an entire neighborhood. Damon hurried into the house, despite the flames licking his feet. When he reached Lilith's room, he found her dead body lying on the bed. Her eyes were wide open in terror.

When he saw this, Damon passed out and hit the wall with his head. The demon screamed, "NO!" in a desperate voice. "Why?"

When the police arrived later that evening, they found Lilith lifeless on the bed. Damon was lying on the floor, unconscious. They placed him on a stretcher and took him to the hospital, where they found a head injury, internal bleeding, and many burns. They put him in emergency surgery, and he survived.

However, his limbs began to twist as he lay in the hospital bed. The demon inside Damon's head was raging. "IT'S YOUR FAULT!" he shouted. His voice was hysterical, and his eyes were blackened by anger. "If she stayed at our home yesterday, she would still be alive!!!"

"I know," Damon muttered. His face was pale, and he could barely breathe; the demon was suffocating him. He was gasping for air; his lungs were about to explode. The demon inside him was screaming. He felt like the whole world was falling apart, and he couldn't do anything about it.

His vision blurred and turned black, but he refused to give in to it. His eyes glowed red, and his teeth grew sharp. The demon inside Damon's head was screaming and clawing its way into his brain.

Suddenly, Damon was surrounded by white light. At first, he couldn't understand why. Was his consciousness leaving? Was he waking up? No. He was fusing with the demon and felt complete for the first time. The rage the two felt became one, and all he could see in front of his eyes were dead Lilith's body. The scene of two demons fighting, Lilith's neighborhood going in flames, kept repeating inside Damon's mind.

"We… We will find them." The demon within said with a deep distorted voice. "We will kill all of them!"
