They journeyed for a few days, passing by a few small cities, forests, and open fields. Whatever Zhao Xing was waiting for didn't happen, at least not yet. She hoped that at this crucial moment she'd at least have a vision of some sort. But nothing, nothing happened. Zhang Zhengyang made sure that if they had to stop to rest they'd do so when they arrived populated places. This time they had less carriages following them. Zhao Xing knew that apart from the men that guarded them in the open there were also shadow guards, although she had never seen one before, Xiao Chen had told her about it, once. Still she didn't know if she should feel safe, she had never seen them in action, how would she know how capable they were?
These days she ignored Zhang Zhengyang because of her foul mood, if she ever had a question she would directly ask Xiao Chen. The Crown Prince also didn't mind her, and let her do what she wanted.
"Don't worry, Grand Tutor, nothing bad would happen, the master is well prepared." Xiao Chen said boastfully. He had been allowed to sit with them in the carriage for some reason. Normally when it was just the Crown Prince and herself, she'd have to wait till they stopped so she could talk with Xiao Chen. BBut after a few times of doing so he was suddenly allowed to sit in the carriage. Zhao Xing glanced at Zhang Zhengyang that acted invisible by reducing his presence. He didn't talk, he didn't look at her, he either read or had his eyes closed, though, she didn't think he was sleeping when he did so.
To Xiao Chen someone as powerful as his master couldn't be defeated. If it was just skill, their men were very well trained, and had a lot of talent, though he knew the enemy would attack, he doesn't believe they'd be subdued easily. He believed everything would be fine.
Zhao Xing pursed her lips.
Xiao Chen glanced at his master, as if inspecting his expression, when he saw his master didn't seem bothered by his words he continued, "It's not the first time they tried to ambush my master. My master has had to travel many times, once he would have been killed during a banquet in the palace, if this lady hadn't been so bold and pester my prince while he was eating, he would have been…" Xiao Chen's voice trailed, when he felt someone's glare. He didn't dare turn, and immediately kept quiet.
Zhao Xing: "??"
Seeing Xiao Chen's expression she turned to the Crown Prince that sat opposite them, the man had his eyes closed, then she turned back to Xiao Chen,
"What happened? Who was this miss you're talking about, she dared be so bold and ended up saving the Crown Prince? How? Is she still alive?"
Xiao Chen no longer dared to answer, he glanced once again at his master, after hesitating a few times he decided against speaking further.
Zhao Xing didn't know why he suddenly stopped and got annoyed.
"Why start to say something and then stop in the middle?"
Xiao Chen had already sealed his lips by now, he didn't respond. Who was he going to offend? \his master? The Grand Tutor?
He had better not create problems for himself, he doesn't want to be punished!
Zhao Xing fell into deep thought. Of course, as the Crown Prince if he's not caught up in all the political strife then he wouldn't be the son of the Emperor.
She suddenly wondered how Zhang Zhengyang had lived his life before she arrived. Of course before today she didn't care. Before today, she saw all this like playing a game everything starts when you start to play.
What she didn't know was that all the people here were real, and though she had appeared here to aid the prince, it wasn't like the prince's life had begun when she arrived or that he hadn't gone through worse. All this time she had been worrying about how to see a vision and help him, so she could return to her world. She didn't take into account the gravity of the situation. He wasn't just a prince that rose up one day and said he wanted to kill his father, and by coincidence she appeared to help him just in time, he might have been planning this for years, he might have had other plans in the past as well, in whole the situation was more complex than she could imagine. But all this information was hidden from her.
She glanced at Xiao Chen.
But of course she wouldn't be able to get a thing from the Crown Prince nor his people. This made her frustrated. She only saw a pool of blood and she couldn't sleep well for days, she wondered what the Crown Prince had seen in the past. If he had seen the worst then he would be prepared at all times, it's just that she really has never seen the Crown Prince people in action, so she couldn't help but worry.
She didn't annoy the Crown Prince after this, and acted obediently. Maybe it wasn't because he neglected his safety, it was because she didn't know what he had gone through, and couldn't use what he had gone through to connect things. She thought of what the Crown Prince said before.
'You're ignorant, accept it and stop trying to act smart.'
He was right.
They came to another stop in a small city, and stayed in the inn overnight.
That night when Zhao Xing couldn't sleep she stood to look out her window, she stayed on the second floor, the view wasn't bad. The moon was high up in the sky and shining brightly.
She stood before the window to think about life.
'If I end up not going back home, then I'd be living here for the rest of my life…'
'If the prince no longer has use for me, he'd probably send me away…by then I should ask him for enough payment, then I'll start running a shop in the capital, the last time I went exploring the Capital…aiya, it was only once…'
"What if the prince doesn't pay me, because he thinks I'm useless?"
She looked at herself and thought, she was indeed of no use to him, she couldn't even see a vision correctly!
She thought of how she even got such an ability in the first place. If it was this world that gave it to her she thinks the world needed to change it, change it to something cooler, like having super powers, able to manipulate minds and so on. She paused and thought of other cool golden fingers she could have obtained.
