BATH

SHARI pretended she didn't feel Levi's presence. He went out afterward, and a few minutes passed. Levi returned and lay on the bed beside her and embraced her tight. It appeared he had a quick shower in his room since Shari could smell the scent of his favorite aloe vera soap.

"I'm back, sweetheart." He kissed her hair. "I'm exhausted."

Shari turned to face him. She hoped he hadn't noticed that she was still sweating. The adrenaline rush in her body hadn't subsided.

"Hmm," she pulled him closer. "You're early."

"I promised to be back at daybreak," he mumbled.

Shari opened her eyes and studied Levi's tired look. His eyes were closed, but it was evident how weary he was. Probably because of the pressure on his side that despite those armed men they apprehended, he failed on his mission… because of her.

Sorry, love. Next time I'll be on your side, Shari thought.
