  The Whisper

  As she breathed against his chest, Tessa’s hot breath sent vibrations through his skin, making Rafik look up from the page he was on to glance down over her. He smiled at the prize Fate had given him and pushed his head back into the sand-littered blanket to let her sleep the day away.

  While she strolled down the familiar path through a dense forest in her dream, she heard the faint cries of a baby and Rafik singing their song.

  She hopped across the smooth stones of the stream before the city gates until the stone guards bowed to her, and the old warlock with long black hair and green robes nodded his head. “Welcome to the North Woods, Your Majesty. Your family awaits you.”

  Surrounded by wooded cliffs and waterfalls, she found her parents on a cobblestone path. And after her mother kissed her cheek, she motioned down the road. “She is beautiful.”
