Chapter 106

  The Alamo

  “Damn.” After she snapped her fingers, Tessa tugged on her husband’s arm. “Hold on a minute. I forgot to get something.”

  While he spoke with the clerk, he nodded his chin and kept his eyes on her as she moved through the aisles.

  Blue, dim light, like the pilot on a gas stove, always shined over her, but today her aura melted from silver to orange. A twinge of guilt gripped Rafik’s belly, and he knew they needed to reach the Realm quickly. This life they lived couldn’t last much longer.

  Before he even heard the window smash, Teddy grabbed hold of the back of his shirt. “Oh, shit.” As the black mist swirled around their feet, he yelled over his shoulder for his sister. “Alamo, Tessa!”

  Their hearts beat violently amongst the swirling tornado until the whole universe was one prolonged silent pause, and all the air sucked from their lungs.
