A Good Pick-Me-Up

Groaning, I opened my eyes, wondering what this warm, soft feeling that was surrounding my face was.

Focusing my sight, I wryly smiled when I found myself buried in Kay's chest, her small yet soft bosom acting as a pillow.

Pulling away, I got up with a groan, sitting on the edge of the bed with a sigh.

Rubbing my aching temples, I stumbled to my feet, shuffling towards the bathroom.

Turning on the warm water, I swayed in the shower, letting the warmth seep into my bones, easing my aching body.

Placing a hand on my stomach, I sighed again, reminiscing about that night.

Why was it so... painful?

I had known her for not even a few hours, and yet Cynthalla had burrowed her way into my thoughts, her offer having swayed me more than I thought it would.

Hearing someone yawn behind me, I watched as Kay shuffled into the shower beside me, rubbing her eyes.

"Mornin..."

Her voice was low, and I chuckled.

"Still not a morning person huh?"

Sighing, Kay leaned against the wall, half heartedly glaring at me as she said "Well, someone kept muttering and grumbling in their sleep, so I couldn't get a wink at all!"

Grinning at her, I just shrugged, only to freeze as she asked "Alexandra... what happened? You've never been that... down before..."

Screwing my eyes shut, I took in a shuddering breath before saying "Kay, this stays between us, yeah?"

Looking over at the thin, black haired woman, I watched as she nodded at me.

"My target was someone from the Archon Corp., and the best way to ice her was to act as a Doll; you saw the outfit I used."

Again, Kay nodded, pursing her lips as she stared at me.

"Well, I had to play the part of a Doll, y'know? Spread my legs and let her have her way with me..."

Sighing, I leaned against the wall, shaking my head as I continued.

"Thing was, the target was... well, she was incredible... hit spots I've never had hit, showed me a side of me I never really thought existed... She was domineering, demanding, yet somehow gentle and kind. She provided me with the best night I have ever had... and she offered me something..."

Kay leaned fowards, wrapping her arms around me as she held me in her embrace.

"She offered to 'buy' me from the Doll House."

Kay pulled away, looking at me in surprise.

"Wait, she wanted... to make you hers?"

I nodded, smiling wryly before continuing.

"She wanted to buy me and put me in one of her apartments, where..."

My voice caught, and I felt my eyes watering slightly.

"Where we would... where we would raise our children..."

Gulping, I looked away, biting my cheek as I held in a sob.

What the hell...

Even Kay was confused, her eyes wide as she stared at me in shock.

"Wait wait... you were going to..?"

I nodded, gulping again as I said "I-If the cl-client didn't fuck me over... If I had a choice..."

Laying my head on Kay's shoulder, I let out a sob, saying "I would've went, Kay!"

She placed her hand on my head, gently stroking my hair as she held me close.

"It's alright, Alexandra... we've all had those thoughts of wanting out..."

Sobbing, I clung desperately to her, the warm water washing over us, minutes slowly passing.

"K-Kay, why... why w-was that so tempting?!"

Humming gently, she chuckled as she stroked my hair, saying "Probably because you'd leave this hellhole behind you, live comfortably with this woman who made you feel good, and get to have children and raise them properly, to be able to send them to school and live a good life, not having to worry about where your next meal comes from or if the lights or heat is paid for..."

I chuckled slightly at that, only to listen as she continued.

"Alexandra, it was probably one of the best offers you would ever get; someone in a powerful position wants you to be their lover, and wants to have children with you. Hell, even if they never looked your way after you had a kid, you'd live comfortably. Most of the Maidens would've taken the offer... after all, we all grew up with terrible pasts, doing what we could to just survive. Most of our end goals are to just... be able to live in peace. That's why Olympias and Delphi took Archon's offer to work for them, to rule this side of the city..."

Removing herself from me, Kay just smiled down at me, finishing her talk with a chuckle.

"So, don't feel bad about wanting out. All of us want out eventually."

Drawing in a shaky breath, I nodded, before smiling weakly at her.

"Thanks, Kay..."

"That's what I'm here for. You and Wendigo have the emotional range of a .22"

"Fuck you..."

Pinching her shoulder, we both chuckled, before the air around us turned ambiguous.

Laying a hand on my stomach, Kay grinned at me, looking at me from under her long lashes.

"Want a good pick-me-up, Alexandra~?"

Sliding my hands over her, I gave her a wry smile.

"Was all that talk just trying to get me to feel good enough to bed you?"

Tilting her head, Kay pursed her lips, only to nod.

"Yeah, pretty much. Could give a fuck less about the rest of you. All that matters..."

Dropping her hand lower, she gently stroked me as she smirked at me.

"Is this big guy."

I shook my head at her, before pushing her against the wall.

"Well, guess I need to make sure you know how much it matters huh?"

I knew what she was doing, and honestly...

I needed it.

I needed to take my mind off of everything, and liquor wasn't going to cut it.

This, however...

As Kay and I started moaning together in the shower, I was grateful for her.

Facing your problems is good and all, but sometimes...

Sometimes it's better to just bury them under something else, to forget about it.
