CHAPTER 42 – Something Crazy: Just Like Her

On the other hand, when Xavier returned to one of his study rooms housing the big mirror, he slouched on the chair in front of the mirror with his left hand lazily supporting his chin as he stared blankly ahead.

Going into Raven's room brought back memories he did not think would resurface at that moment.

Just watching her struggle with whatever nightmare, she had made him recall his late wife once more.

'She looked just like Saphira just now. I know I am not seeing things. I know what I saw. The feeling, I was instantly taken back to times when Saphira…'

He rose from his feet and began to pace. It wasn't just like the previous nightmares his queen had.

This time the sight before him took him back to that day. That early hour of the morning while the sky was still pitch black.

'It was exactly how she started acting on the bed the day she saw the nightmare, the premonition of her death. Just seeing Raven brought back those exact memories.'

He let his hand holding his chin drop as his eyes narrowed to the wall in front of him.

"Why though? Why does she have so many resemblances to her but yet I…" He breathed out deeply, lowering his head.

By the time Xavier lifted his head once more, his eyes went dim.

"Maybe I can get to know more about her through Sky. I believe I made the best decision there. If someone can get through to her, it may just be that troublemaker."

It did not take long for Sky to resume her duty following Xavier's command. And by the next day, she was right at Raven's door ready to pay her a visit with the meal.

Unknown to her, Xavier spent the entire night waiting for this particular encounter.

She had ignored her the previous day because she had better things on her mind.

First was the dream and then Xavier's imposing aura that spelt death for anyone who did something different and dangerous.

Lifting her eyes from the pillow in her hand, Raven gave her response and waited for the doors to open as she remained seated on the bed like an obedient daughter.

The door pushed open, revealing Sky in a different outfit from what she saw her the other day.

Taking a step forward, the dark blue knee-length gown Sky wore danced to her movement as she closed more ground and made her way into the room.

Her black knee-high boots echoed after her, adding a different kind of vibe to her already casual wear.

One look at her and Raven could tell, she may have returned from training. This was something she usually did when they were friends.

Rather than dressing in a pair of trousers and shirts as the case may be, she wore easy-to-move clothes, short gowns and sometimes, thigh-high boots.

Unlike the outfit she wore before, in this she looked relatively simple.

Moving her gaze from her outfit, Raven settled her gaze on the tray of food in her hands.

"It was an actual meal. One better than what Xavier had been serving her the past few days.

Not saying a single word to her, Sky took a step to the side and placed the tray on the table. All the while she kept her eyes glued on Raven, lest the latter made any move to run.

After they left the previous day, she had questions running through her brain but thought it wise not to seek the answer from the captor.

Instead, she sought Zeno out and found out a thing or two.

'It is no wonder she looks at me with such hostility. He kidnapped her against her wishes. And now he wants me to handle his mess. Sigh.'

She did not bother to wear any form of a smile on her face. She was sure similar thoughts ran through Raven's mind at this moment.

It was only a question of who spoke first.

Her eyelashes fluttered before coming to a close with her chest rising to steady her breathing. "Ask me what you want."

"Oh, I thought we would try with, Oh hello Raven," Raven spat out with sarcasm laced in her tone.

"Fine. Hello Raven. How are you?"

"Do I look fine?" Raven questioned. Immediately her brows drew together as she got up from the bed and crossed her arms underneath her bosom.

"Why?" She questioned her seconds later.

She did not understand the reason why Sky chose to serve Xavier and not Jared.

"Why what? You are going to have to be a little bit more specific than that."

"Fine. Why would you leave Drakenflare for what? More than 50 years now? Only to reappear and pledge allegiance to him? The monstrous king of all people."

A low scoff fell off her lips at Raven's remark. "You do not know him, Raven. I thought you were better than this."

"Yes. I thought you were better than this as well. But for you to throw everything away, not agreeing to serve the current monarchy for this? The very man who plunged Maestherial into hell. No."

"No? You speak as though you know anything about him," Sky countered.

"I may not know so much about him but I sure as hell, know him more than you do. How the hell did you think I came to be here? Huh?"

Rather than saying anything, Sky kept silent.

Yes, she wasn't denying he did wrong but weren't they all judging based on news from the past where the villain never got to tell his tale and defended himself?

"Exactly, you cannot refute this because the very fact that I am here is proof that he has not changed. Upon awakening, the first thing he did was resume his fury and kidnap me. I am sorry, I cannot understand why you would choose him. I thought you were better."

She had decided to let Raven speak because it was good, but having her say this. She gritted her teeth and clenched her hands tight at her side.

"Better? Are you any better, Raven? I left, I had my conviction and I followed my heart. I may not know his reasons for kidnapping you but you do not know me as well. I would prefer you shut your opinion up and keep it for who cares."

Low laughter tore through Raven's lips. Her shoulders shook as she did so.

"Did he have you brainwashed or something, Sky? And what would your father say? Pendragon's heir, in service to the dragon king. Splendid."

"Think what you may," Sky brushed.

"Hahhaa, why? You cannot talk back because I speak the truth? Okay, what would your father say? I bet he would be highly disappointed in you," she giggled tauntingly. "Going against him."

Her eyes narrowed further as her chest tightened with no restraints. "Leave my father out of this, Raven! I do not belong to anyone. And I do not care what their opinion is about me."

"Oh my, your big mistake then," Raven said amidst laughter.

"What?"

"You heard me Sky."

Having a male taunt, her was one thing, she let go and bring them down. But having a female was another problem.

And right now, the one doing so was somebody she once held dear. Her nostrils flared as did her eyes while she got ready to teach Raven a good lesson.

'I am sorry, Sky. I gave you a chance but you obviously have your heart set on serving him as your king. I am sorry. I cannot serve such a king.' Raven voiced out in her mind.

"Raven…"

"I am sorry Sky. I do not intend on playing catch with you."

"Me neither," Sky pronounced and turned around, about to leave. "You can choose to eat or not. Whichever one you pick; the choice is yours. I'm out of here."

"True and the choice was yours. I cannot serve a being who has no respect for the lives of the innocent, young or old."

"What?"

A sinister smile flashed before Raven's eyes as she gathered a swirl of power in her hands. Sensing the danger coming, Sky turned her head to the side.

The moment her eyes caught the shining blue light whirling up in Raven's hands, she took a turn quickly and channelled her own powers in her hands.

Before she could finish, Raven moved her hands back and the next second, pushed forward, sending her attack right at Sky,

Quickly, Sky lifted her hands erecting a small shield to block the attack just in time.

"Damn you, Raven!"

Feeling enraged by the sneak attack, she wasted no time and let her power surge in front of her while her hands arched in a circular form, gathering more of her powers.

"Yes, attack me if you can," Raven challenged and let her flames gather in her hands.

"Argh!"

The next thing she knew, Sky reacted first and with equal speed as she sent the power vortex she had been gathering right at Raven.

"Got you."

BOOM!
