Chapter 54 - The ones that suffer the most

One day passed since Finn was freed and I became some sort of warrior for Lexa, while at the same time a slave since I wasn't allowed to leave the camp.

Meanwhile, back at Camp Jaha, neither one of my friends worked nor talked with Abby, Marcus, or Byrne after what Dr. Griffin did.

Clarke was lost after what she had indirectly done and even though she saved her boyfriend she betrayed her friend. Abby looked down at her blank-faced daughter and hesitated, concerned. Clarke knew that her mother was standing behind her, but did it matter? Her friend was gone because of her. The lives of all of them would be forever changed because of her desire to have Finn by her side.

A few seconds later, her eyes snapped up, impatiently waiting for her mother to lie to her as she always did. Abby cleared her throat before she sit near her daughter.

"It was the only thing that could stop this war. Leon would understand, dear."

"No, mom, you are wrong. You are the one that doesn't understand what I have done. Do you see any of my friends here trying to make me feel better for what I have done? Because I don't. When we still lived in the dropship, all one hundred of us promised each to always have our backs and while some of us died, not many betrayed that promise. I was the only one to break it for a selfish reason. "

"Clarke, we all have to make tough choices that seem impossible, but in the end, we do what we believe to be the best decision, even if some people have to suffer because of that."

Abby waited for a response, watching her daughter's reaction closely. For a second, she saw her open her mouth to say something, most likely to protest the cruelty of her words, but alas, Clarke decided against it and just closed her mouth shut and stared at the floor, ignoring her mother. Abby wanted to say something again, but there wasn't really much she could say, especially after what she had just said about the boy that had saved the lives of his friend on more than one occasion. She wasn't good at that kind of stuff when it came to her daughter, that was her husband's job when he was alive, and sadly after she provoked his death, Abby didn't really pay that much attention to her daughter. Perhaps she should be there for her more, maybe visit her more often than she did, or even talk with her daughter after she arrived on Earth, but sadly for her, Clarke made it clear that everything she's told her has been either an insult or an order, which was the harsh truth.

Regardless of what her daughter thought about her, Abby did everything for her and her alone, no matter who or how many were going to die because of her selfish desire to keep her single daughter alive.

Clarke lifted herself from the floor without even looking at her mother before she took a deep breath as she walked towards the gate.

When she arrived at the gate, Clarke saw Bellamy and Monroe ready to head out.

"Hey…"

"Hey, Clarke. How are you?"

"Seriously, Bellamy? All of us know that she isn't alright, especially after what her mother did."

"It's just… forget it, you are right, Monroe. I'm sorry, Clarke. I know that you aren't at fault here, but don't worry, Monroe and I are going to get Leon back or at least be by his side. We don't know what they are planning to do with him, but I don't even want to imagine. "

"Thank you, you two. Be careful out there, I saw what Lexa's capable of doing to her enemies or spies so please, don't give her motive to kill you."

"Don't worry, Clarke, I'll make sure that Bellamy and Leon keep their heads on their bodies. You too should talk with Finn, he's feeling awful for what happened to Leon, even more so now that he's blaming himself for it."

Clarke smiled at them before she hugged both of them. As soon as Clarke step back the two left the camp, heading towards the Grounder's main camp where their friend was now living.

Back in the temporary camp, Lexa was listening to how her warriors were complaining about the lack of justice. It was painfully obvious that the warriors did not feel appeased in their claim for justice with how their commander had decided to repay their dead by taking one of the Skykru to live with them while freeing the murderer, not even his death could have satiated the desire of some for revenge.

Seeing that no one was going to stop arguing about the punishment for Leon, Lexa decide that she had enough of this charade for today.

"Bring Leon into my tent and stay with him."

Lexa said to Anya, giving the girl a slight nudge as she nodded to Gustus to follow both of them. She needed to remain behind for a moment, making sure that her warriors accepted this as their justice and did not retaliate against Skykru without her order. Internally Lexa sighed deeply, she could fathom why Clarke was ready to offer the boy a quick and painless death, but in the end, her desire to keep her lover alive had only managed to increase the distrust from her warriors against Skykru.

Anya did as she was told and a few minutes later, the three of them arrived in front of Lexa's tent. Gustus signaled Anya to go ahead since he will stay outside, not caring that much about what his leader was going to do with the sky guy.

As soon as I entered, I saw Lexa sitting on her throne, clearly bothered by something, but as soon as she heard her tent being opened she regain her composure before she looked at me.

Lexa smiled at her friend as Anya walked to her right side. "Blood has answered blood. Some on my side say that it is not enough. They wanted the murderer to suffer as our tradition demands, but I made a promise to Clarke and I tend to keep my promises, but in the end, it wasn't enough. Tell me, Leon, what do you think I should do to appease my warriors so that they won't seek revenge for what your friend did?"

"I don't know, after all my people don't have such traditions, but I know that either you or I need to do something before our people start killing each other again. Once again, I don't know about your traditions, but a friend of mine told me that for someone to become one of yours, you either are borne in the tribe, you marry someone or you beat enough of them so that they would recognize you as one of them."

"Other than being borne in my tribe, the other two methods can be applied to our problem so what do you think, Leon, do you want to marry someone from my side?"

"I'm sorry, Commander, but I'm too young to settle down, besides, the last option is better for me, since I'm itching to beat a few warriors the way it should happen, without having to kill them."

"Then so be it. Tomorrow you will face all of the warriors that are unsatisfied with my decision to free your friend but be warned, Leon, we are allies now, so you better not kill my warriors, especially before what we are going to do."

I may not be the smartest man alive, but even I could see how quickly Lexa's emotions changed when she heard my words, but in the end, it was my choice and not hers. Besides, it would be quite a good workout as a prelude to the assault on Mount Weather.

As soon as I return to my tent, I was shocked to see Monroe waiting for me, clearly upset about what happen to me, but as soon as I saw her,I knew that tonight might be the night I finally hear what she wants to say to me.
