Awkwardness

Kai was busy playing on his laptop in the park near the school because he had an Indonesian assignment that required him to do it using a computer. Accompanied by a gentle breeze that ruffles her hair and a glass of milk coffee that she bought at the school canteen

The task of writing an article about anxiety felt in any form with various themes of family, friends or even politics; of course, Kai is unlikely to choose a topic about politics; he decides about family.

"Hmmm, broken home or about mothers who always compare their children to other people, huh?" muttered Kai alone while sipping the milk coffee he had bought.

"boom."

A hoarse voice that swished suddenly entered Kai's ear, breaking his concentration, which was thinking about the title of the task.

"Eh, sis," Kai said in shock and immediately looked up from his seat to look in the direction the voice was.

"How come alone? Where is his girlfriend?"

"Boyfriend? Who?"

"That's what you like to be with," Nanang said, chewing the fried food he had brought.

"Ah, that's my friend, sis. Brother, what are you doing here? Any business?"

"No, I was on my way to the parking lot when I saw you alone here; I just arrived," he answered casually.

Hearing Nanang's words made Kai's heart fly through the sky. He didn't expect Nanang would say something like that. Immediately Kai was confused by the following conversation.

"Sis, who came up with this correspondence event? I think it's going to be fun!" Kai exclaimed with a happy face.

"You have prepared a letter, for whom?" he said.

Nanang stared at Kai while his lips answered the question.

"Yeah, Rio's idea. He's cool, brilliant. At first, there was a lot of debate, but because the poll was already made, many people were interested, so it's okay," Nanang took a deep breath as if thinking back to the second answer submitted by Kai. "I'm also confused about who to give the letter to. I've been thinking about it; what's clear is for classmates," he answered.

Like a cat excited because it got a stolen fish, Kai's feelings rose, overflowing as if he wanted to spill over when he heard Nanang's answer. He thought it was definitely for him because who else was the underclassman close to him?

* * *

The atmosphere at dinner at Kai's house was a little tense because it had been a long since he had sat down to eat with the rest of his family. A rare sight to see his father at home when the sun has set.

"Want to use chicken, sis?" asked the mother seeing her eldest child had just come down the stairs.

Kai sat down, not yet answering his mother's words. His eyes circled the dining table; he saw one piece of chicken left, and then his eyes moved to mother's plate, which had not been filled with any side dishes.

"No need, ma'am; I'm tired of eating chicken all the time," answered Kai while taking the tempeh and soup that were in front of him.

This was not the first time Kai had refused his mother's offer of a piece of chicken that would be given to him, as there was a tightness in his chest seeing that his mother had to be willing to give away the chicken that might have been hers, but she was glad not to eat only for her child.

She saw Raya eating while turning her wrist, and her slightly painful expression made her mother ask her more and more questions.

"What are you doing, Ray?" asked mother.

"Sick?" asked the father as if giving attention to his son.

Raya kept silent while smiling as if she had something to hide.

"No problem, ma'am," he replied.

"Mostly play basketball until the afternoon," said Kai. The spoon and fork that Raya held were immediately slammed down until a loud clink sounded.

"If you don't know, don't pretend to know!" Raya immediately stood up and did not finish her food.

At that time, Diga was already seen in the TV room carrying the green basket Kai had brought to his house yesterday.

"Eh, kid Diga. Come eat," said mother.

"Here, mom, there's a side dish from mom," said Diga.

Mother immediately opened the side dish that Diga had brought and invited him to eat together. Awkwardness occurs when the father jokingly tries to pretend to be a predictor of the future.

"Hmm, here. It's been a long time since I haven't talked to you," Dad said while embracing Diga.

"You guys are getting bigger; I predict it looks like you are meant to be," said dad while chewing his food.

Instantly, their hearts beat fast, as if those words made them ask about his feelings. They imagined that one day there would be an event where they could express their feelings to each other.

"Haha. No, uncle, I don't want to be with a weird girl like this human," Diga said, pointing at Kai.

How would it feel if a joke and thoughtless utterance happened? What if the flavours come together? Will it be a good unity or even a feeling that should be buried?

After finishing eating, Kai and Diga decided to go outside to get some fresh air hoping that the awkwardness at the dinner table would disappear soon.

The wind danced around Kai and Diga, who was sitting on the garden's edge. It was seen that there were several gentlemen in casual clothes sitting at the complex guard post. The sound of his booming laughter echoed up to their seats.

"Earlier, I was told by Nanang," said Kai, opening the conversation.

When he turned around, it turned out that Diga was already in front of a seller of boiled peanuts.

"Oh my god! I still want to tell you, "said Kai.

"What? what?"

"Earlier, I was brought by Sis Nanang while doing my homework in the garden."

"Oh yes? Are you happy? What are you talking about?"

"Yeah, about school. But some things make me happy!" Kai shouted while clenching his hands which he deliberately put in front of Diga's face.

"What?"

"I asked, why are you suddenly here? Then you know what he answered? Because I saw you were alone, so I brought it up."

Instantly Diga's feelings were like being hit by a wave; he thought that Nanang was very interested in Kai.

"Ah. It just makes you happy. Even though he doesn't want to see you. Haha," said Diga, laughing out loud.

"Aww!" shouted Diga because Kai had just grabbed his hair.

This wasn't the first time Diga felt jealous every time he heard Kai talk about Nanang, even though he was sometimes annoyed, but Diga couldn't do much about it. He was trying to cover up his jealousy in various ways.
