Chapter 34: The Devil Of Nazarick Pt1

Ainz flew through the air once more, in search of Destoroyah. He had a feeling the Grimm was heading straight for the Tomb of Nazarick, he was also certain what magic spells he had used against Scarlet was going to keep her busy for a good while. But in the back of his mind he knew karma was going to bite back.

"I'm low on mana.... I need time to recover. But I can't risk that beast destroying everything in its path. Let alone get near Nazarick." Ainz mumbled to himself. "But how do I do two things at once? With Shalltear and Albedo out of the picture now... I don't know if Demiurge and the others will be able to keep that beast at bay or not. I have faith in them, but...." His thought process was cut off as he heard the loud shirking roar of Destoroyah up ahead. "....There you are you monster."

The Kaiju sized Grimm let out a roar almost like it was laughing, it fired its Micro-Oxygen Beam at the forest as the trees caught fire and trees began to crack and fall over. The Grimm continued to fire its Micro-Oxygen Beam as it ignored Ainz. It roared again as it started walking, shaking the ground under its feet. Animals fleeing from the area as some had died from the oxygen beam.

Ainz floated down to the ground as he knew what type of magic he would have to use. But at the same time he didn't know how strong it would be against Destoroyah. "There has to be a way I can take this thing down without having to use up all of my mana." He pondered for a moment, he rubbed his chin. 

The ground shook again, but this time it wasn't from Destoroyah's footsteps. The ground started to crack open, Ainz took notice as he moved out of the way, the entire area shook like there was an Earth quake. What buildings were around or nearby, shook and collapsed. What people or citizens were still alive and around fell over, the ground continued to crack open as it started to fill with a black inky like liquid that bubbled. Ainz was puzzled by this, he never seen a river form so quickly yet he was more puzzled at the black bubbly liquid.

"What in the name of Nazarick is this?" Ainz asked himself.

The liquid continued to bubble, the more the crack filled up the more the black liquid rose up. Ainz shook his head as he didn't need to get distracted, he needed to stop Destoroyah from reaching Nazarick. But his mana was low, he needed a potion or something to recover his lost mana, a Beowulf arm rose out from the liquid as it pulled itself up. Its black fur was soaked from the liquid. The Grimm shook itself dry as its crimson red eyes made contact with Ainz, it let out a bellowing growl and roared.

"What's this? Interesting.... that river of black goo or whatever it is, spawned this creature. Could it be that there are more?" Ainz asked himself once again, and sure enough it was right. More Grimm rose up from the river as Ursa's and other types came out, they noticed Ainz as they surrounded him. "This is going to be troublesome.."

Meanwhile back at the area Scarlet was left at, the undead army scouted the area as the smog had slowly lifted and was less thick than it previously was. Scarlet's vision and hearing were still gone, she puked more blood the more she tried to stand. Her head was spinning as her voice became distorted. "Finally.... I'm free.... free of that wretched prison.... free to do as I please...." Her nose sniffed the air as she got the scent of undead. Her body was taking a moment to heal itself so she could have her hearing and vision back. "Surrounded in darkness.... this world will burn before you can stop the inevitable... This is just the beginning of the end. And your hope will be crushed in the palm of my hand, no longer you hold onto your hope, the more you lose sight of what you truly want."

The smog lifted more and more as Scarlet's vision and hearing slowly returned to her. A Griffon Grimm swooped down as it flapped its wings to clear the surrounding area, it knelt down and huffed as if it was bowing down to Scarlet. The Grimm girl turned her head towards the Griffon as she climbed onto its back. The Griffon shrieked as it flew into the air, more Grimm started crawling out of the Grimm pit like it was a black Friday sale at a store. Hordes upon hordes of Grimm scattered like wild fire.

"Come forth my brothers and sisters. We will bring this world to its knees! Destroy anything and anyone that stands in your way." Scarlet said as she looked down at her hands, she snapped her fingers as a Grimm grabbed Black Rose and brought it up to her. She took her weapon as the Griffon flew off into the sky.

Hero was elsewhere as he was far away from what happened, he poked his head up from behind the rock he was behind as he watched what was going on. "Oh dear..." He walked out from behind the rock as he started to chase after the Grimm without them knowing. Of course he knew Scarlet could smell him, even if he wasn't close enough to be within eye range. "I need to stop her before she's far too gone."

Which would've been easier said than done. If he had done something sooner before Ainz attacked, but Hero didn't have any fancy magic to fight or anything like that, he could only just summon random items out of thin air. He continued to follow them and kept his distance the best he could, he stopped every now and then to see what Scarlet was going to do. 

Scarlet snickered as she could tell they were getting closer, she watched as some of the Grimm ran off different ways to what villages and towns were still standing. She started to laugh insanely, her crimson eyes glowed as she sniffed the air. "I'm coming for you Ainz, and you can't stop what's coming your way.... this world is weak... weak and pathetic. You hold the balance of this world on your shoulders, yet you do not let those who do harm get away with it. Evil is the only answer, there is no resistance to this war. This war will change the balance of this world, and once that balance and hope is crushed.... you will lose all that is dear to you, your soul and heart will be shattered. And I will see to it that what remains of your empty shell, will be crushed."

Ainz had recovered his mana, he was about to cast a spell to slow Destoroyah down but the Grimm that surrounded him began to growl and howl. He was confused, he didn't know what they were howling about. The sky darkened as it started to rain, the entire area was getting soaked as the Grimm continued to howl, Destoroyah turned its head to the side looking at Ainz it did its mocking laugh as it continued to walk. Almost as if it was the alpha of the entire group, and telling the Grimm to deal with him. But that wasn't the case, it was something more.

As the rain continued to pour down, Ainz looked at his surroundings calculating which Grimm he should attack first. He didn't think these creatures were strong or smart given that they were just animals. But he also knew they were given orders, still he went with his gut and assumed they weren't as smart as they seemed. He flew into the air and out of their reach, but a Nevermore swooped down and used its talons to grab him.

The Nevermore shrieked and roared as it tossed Ainz towards the ground where a DeathStalker was at, the scorpion Grimm used its tail and stabbed the tip of its yellow stinger through Ainz's gown. But Ainz wasn't there, he had slipped out from his gown as he quickly changed into his armor.

"That was close." Ainz mumbled as he held his giant sword in his hands. "Looks like getting past these animals won't be an easy task."

A beam of magic came shooting at Ainz as it hit his armor knocking him back. "I couldn't agree more..." Scarlet spoke as she snickered, it had seemed her army of Grimm had gotten closer to where he was. "The people of this world have suffered enough. Surrender to me, and they needn't suffer any further." 

Ainz glared at Scarlet, he was out numbered now. And to make matters worse, Destoroyah seemed to be getting closer to the area Nazarick was at. He swung his sword and held it tightly, the Grimm around him backed up as Scarlet jumped off the Griffon and landed in front of Ainz.

"Simply accept the futility of your situation... And this can all be over." Scarlet said in a low tone. "All of this can be over, and you won't have to worry about a single thing.... of course if you don't... well..." She held her hand up as a small orb of magic formed in her palm. "I'll just have to crush the balance and your hope for this world you hold onto so dearly."

"Like hell I will." Ainz said as he swung his sword at Scarlet, slicing her in half. "You think you know what this world needs. But yet you fail to realize what you're doing is impossible."

Scarlet laughed loudly. "You're saying what I'm doing is impossible? Please don't make me laugh....oh wait, you just did!" She laughed more as the Grimm around them growled.  "The sound of victory.... something you don't have." Her body healed itself as she snickered.

Ainz clinched the handle of his sword as he kept his gaze on Scarlet. "This war will lead on for centuries. Until one of us tires out, this war you're wanting.... you will get it!"
