Chapter 9 - Huge misunderstanding

In the middle of the night, a man hid himself at the roof of the building Theo was staying in. The man had been on guard from the moment the prince arrived in the academy.

He then saw two man approaching stealthily armed with daggers on each hand and a sword at the waist. Knowing who their target was, the man left the roof top getting ready for combat.

Much to his horror, before he could even ready himself for combat, he saw two dark flash which came from behind him, hitting the two assassin right at their forehead instantly killing the two before they could even react. However, right in front of the man's eyes the two assassins broke down into soil and dusts within seconds.

Cold sweat was dripping down his forehead and back, not daring to turn around he stared at the two assassins that had turned to soil and dust, in the middle he saw something shining. After what felt like years, he realised that he expert wasn't going to attack him. He turned around, seeing no one behind him, he ran around the academy boarding buildings, even the academy ground. After finding nothing, nor trace, he returned to the two dead "bodied" to find two throwing knife among the pile of soil.

Picking up the the daggers carefully with a cloth, he wrapped them up and kept them in his chest pocket with much care.

Eventhough he had been through many battles close to death, today, he felt closest to hell without even getting hurt.

The then looked at the direction which the blade flew from, he saw a window which was slightly opened and a kid which looked to be at 12 was sleeping with his mouth slightly open and body at odd angles with an arm above from twisting and turning.

The man shook his head and laughed at the idea that came to his head and dismissed it the next second.

'I'll have to report this to his majesty when day breaks' the man then left the area.

Theo woke up the next morning in a bad mood. Seeing that the prince was still sleeping, he left the room to complete his Daily Quest after looking for his 2 throwing knifes which unsurprisingly was not in the pile of soil he assume was the two assassins.

Returning to his room, he seeing the prince waking up confused, his mood worsen.

Last night, he was already dead asleep and dog tired due to the journey, he was then woken up by the system notification.

Ding!

'Dammit, can't you carry out the assassination tomorrow instead?'

Forcing himself to open his eyes, he took out 2 throwing knives from his inventory. Just when he was about to throw them, a man suddenly jumped down from the roof approaching the assassins.

Theo was so pissed off that he almost threw his third throwing knive turning him into dust as well for interrupting. Fortunately for the man, he gave Theo a clear view when moved slightly away to the side letting Theo eliminate the two assassins.

Knowing that they are definitely dead before the knives reached them, Theo went went back to bed in the position he woke up in and fell dead asleep ignoring the system notification immediately after.

Thinking back to last night made him moodier.

'Not only did the assassins arrive when I was exhausted and dead asleep, an idiot appeared and blocked my view, the worst part was, the idiot took the two throwing knives without permission. THEY WERE MY THROWING KNIVES! MADE BY THEODORE ASHWELL!'

Thinking about how he is probably not able to blacksmith anytime soon meaning he'll have to get some throwing from the system store almost made him puked blood from anger.

[Breath in, breath out, breath in, breath out, patience in virtue. Let go of the anger.]

Listening to the system for the first time in a while, he calmed himself finally down. He then looked for throwing knives in the item Store, much to his delight, he found throwing knives exactly like those that me made and bought 4, spending a total of 100 Points.

'Well, at least I gained some point from last night, my knife throwing skills even upgraded.' Looking at the skill ad Theo thought.

Knife Throwing lvl 4

- Able throw knife from 30 meter and make it curve around obstacles.

- Proficiency: 0%

Looking at the skill, his mood improved.

Thinking back to last night, Theo thought of the man blocking his view and his status when he activated his all-seeing eyes. 'He seem to be protecting the prince in secret. The prince is too young to be acquainted with such an expert much less have him protect the prince in secret. He could be the King's man then.'

Before continuing more on the topic, he stopped himself, 'No I don't care, I'm not getting involved. I'm just going to keep Max alive and be on my merry way after graduating.'

In the palace,

Having recalled everything that happened from the speed of taking down the assassins to the bodies decomposing.

"I felt no killing intent towards the assassins nor towards me at all the whole encounter." The man added in the end.

Little did he know that Theo was too tired and all the thought of was finishing his quest before going back to sleep, being to exhausted to think much less have killing intent.

In front of the man was the king of the Oriborn Kingdom. On the table between them were two throwing knives, Theo's throwing knife to be precise. Taking a quick look is enough for the king to know that the throwing knife were special. Not only was it of high - grade quality, it's shape is also slightly different from the ones normally seen.

"We don't know the reason the expert acted nor where he came from. It's highly unlikely his aim was protecting the prince as someone of that calibre wouldn't lower himself to be a guard. The assassins done something to make him eliminate them." The king spoke. "With such a man in the capital, we'll have to becareful, we're still unsure if he is a friend or a foe."

"Discretely investigate the throwing knives and its origin!" he added.

Unbeknownst to Theo, his grumpy actions to complete the quest caused a huge misunderstanding. The people who sent the assassins panicked more than the King as they were afraid that they might have unknowingly offended someone powerful. This paused all assassination plans they had on Max during the rest of his studies in the academy without the culprit realising.
