New Game (Part 2)

"I'm back" Shun said when he got home.

He kicked off his shoes and walked slowly across the room, soon he realized that an answer wasn't coming.

"I think she's going to be working late again." Shun sighed as he said it.

"Seriously mom, you could get some rest now and then."

As he headed for the kitchen, he spotted a note on the table.

It didn't take him long to pick it up and read it...

[ My dear Shun.

I was summoned to deal with an urgent matter in the company, the same annoying as always.

I'll be back late, don't wait for me. If you feel hungry, just heat something in the fridge, or order something, you decide.

Mom loves you, Kisses.

PS: If you feel sick, don't hesitate to call me, no job is more important than my baby XOXO.

As he read, you could see Shun's expression getting more and more embarrassed, until he reached the end and simply dropped the letter in total embarrassment.

His mother was the type who would totally ignore his age and would always treat him like her fragile little son, so much so that Shun had already been through a lot because of it.

But even embarrassed, you could see a smile forming on Shun's face, maybe he didn't completely hate that his mother was like that.

So he went up to his room and left his backpack and all the items he was carrying there, after showering and changing into something more casual, he went down to the kitchen where he had left the food to heat up in a microwave.

As there was only him in the house, he sat in the living room and turned on the television to watch something while he ate.

He ended up on the news channel, which he wanted to change, but ended up hearing something from the report that caught his attention.

These rumors claim that a new highly immersive VR game is secretly being produced by World Link, the biggest game developer today.

We've heard so many unbelievable things about this possible game that we'd all rather believe the rumors were nothing more than a collective delusion.

But were these rumors true?

The undeniable thing is that World Link still hasn't confirmed anything, and everything remains what it is, mere rumors...}

So said the man on the news channel. While listening to the report silently, Shun ended up remembering Leo and the words he had said.

"Is this a coincidence, or is God's Evolution this rumored game?

I could see some similarities with Leo's story, but still, I don't believe it." Shun pondered as he watched.

The report came to an end and he had already finished eating.

After turning off the television and doing the dishes, he went back to his room.

"It's time." Shun said when heading for the device that would take him to the virtual world, it was a state-of-the-art VR helmet, whose effort and money had to be sacrificed for him to acquire it.

To be able to use it, all you had to do was keep the device charged and put the intended game in the special entrance of the helmet, you had the option to download the games online but the performance would be lower compared to the games sold in stores, it might seem just a commercial stunt, but it was the purest truth.

After holding the helmet, Shun took the bag that contained the games he had recently purchased.

"Free Fantasy, let's start with you." He said as he fumbled for the bag, not even looking at the contents.

Soon his expression became confused, that's because he had held something that looked nothing like the texture of a game.

"What is this??" He asked in surprise, but wasting no time, he took the unknown item out of the bag.

After seeing what it was about, he was even more surprised.

What Shun had in his hands, was a somewhat flashy and differentiated glasses, the technological air far surpassed the previous virtual reality helmet.

"I don't remember buying them, how did it get here?" He wondered as he studied the glasses closely.

When inspecting the glasses carefully, he noticed that there were certain numbers that he couldn't quite understand what they meant, but he saw the words World and Link elsewhere.

"Maybe this is a gift from the store." Shun came to the conclusion, he seemed to like the glasses as he was still inspecting them.

"But those glasses don't look bad at all. Let me see how they look Hehe." He said with a sly laugh, then he tried on the glasses.

"What an incredible sight!!!" Shun was amazed to experience the vision in the glasses' optics, from his point of view, he could see the world picture a little better.

He was in awe of his new item, so much so that it didn't take him long to go to a nearby mirror and see what his figure looked like, striking embarrassing poses every five seconds.

"Um, not bad. Who's the handsome guy Hehehe." He held his chin, analyzing it from end to end, an attitude that should be narcissistic and shameful.

For someone of average good looks, he was certainly overdoing the analysis, but the glasses were really stylish.

He would have spent more time there singing praises to himself, but Shun was looking forward to starting game night.

It was then that he turned his attention to the helmet and was about to take off his glasses, but at that exact moment, He felt painful twinges in the parts that the glasses covered, mainly in the eyes.

"Ouch! What was that?!!"

He acted on instinct and tried to take off his glasses quickly, but it was at that moment that the world seemed to fall on him, he had been overcome by a sudden drowsiness.

It was too late.

Before he knew it, Shun had one knee on the floor, and his mind was getting heavier and sleepier.

"What the hell is happening?"

These were his last words, before he collapsed and fell unconscious to the ground.

*POW!*

He hit the ground hard as he fell.

What was happening?

Was that the consequence of trying on the glasses without knowing what they were really about?

Had Shun messed with something he shouldn't have?

How bad was what was happening?

Sometime after being overcome by drowsiness, Shun heard a female, somewhat robotic voice speaking in his mind.

«Starting the Scan process.»

Unlike what it looked like from the outside, Inside he was not sleeping, that is, his mind was fully awake, only traveling at great speed through a vast luminous space.

"Process of what? What the fuck is going on??"

From Shun's point of view, it was as if he was in a lucid dream, without a physical body but with consciousness watching and feeling everything around him, but only light was what he could see.

Shun kept complaining and fidgeting as he didn't understand what was going on, but that's when the feeling of being in high motion passed, and he heard the voice for the second time.

«Scan process completed, account created successfully.»

After the voice sounded, Shun felt his consciousness merging with something.

It was a new body that was being materialized. Starting from head to toe, a body exactly like Shun's had been materialized, except that he was naked and with everything on display.

After having the consciousness merged with the materialized body, the world went from luminous to total darkness.

"But what??!" Shun seemed startled by the sudden change of landscape, even more with the feeling his body gave him, if he could describe it, it was as if he was healthier than ever, he didn't feel a single discomfort.

However, his mind was more focused on the vast space that drastically changed from an infinite and warm light to a dense and vile darkness.

"Where am I? Why is it so dark?"

He tried to move or hold on to something, but to no avail, he was floating in space and with no point of support to change direction or do anything.

'I can only be dreaming!'

That's what he thought after spending some time wandering around. But his intuition made him come to the next conclusion.

"No, it can't be a dream! If I have to recap.

I was in my room until a few minutes.

I was getting ready to play Free Fantasy, but I found those stylish glasses, I couldn't resist trying them on, I confess they weren't bad at all.

But when I thought about taking them off, I felt unbearable twinges in several corners of my face, it was painful!

Soon after I fell asleep, and I ended up here! And it also has this suspicious voice."

He spoke aloud as he recapitulated his last moments before he ended up in that vast space.

"Come to think of it, the words printed on the glasses were very suspicious, I shouldn't have tried them on."

Shun seemed to be seized by a ray of hope at that moment.

"Yes! This is the account creation process that is present in many games. This must be the most logical answer, by accident, I must have ended up in some game."

That was the conclusion he came to, very impatiently and agitatedly, it was as if he was trying to convince himself that this was reality, fearing that it was actually something worse.

Was he right?

Well, whatever the answer, he looked doubtful right then, his next words would explain why.

Shun said as he placed his hand on his chest, he could feel every beat of his heart blowing the breath of life.

"Why is it so real?" He could have sworn there wasn't a single difference between his real body and this one, at least in terms of sensation.

He seemed to have calmed down quickly, but that was because his brain had formulated a response with the various factors he had witnessed that day, it was then that he remembered Leo's words once again.

"It can't be! Could this be?!"

The voice then sounded for the third time, and as if to confirm Shun's suspicions, what she said this time was:
