The Secret [1]

'You must forgive me, aunty. I do hope your night was better than mine.' Richard had spoken in a tone that one could call mockery.

He did not care for his aunty's night but he did not want her complaining about him throughout the meeting like she always did.

'We do not need to begin with petty arguments, Cordelia. We must focus on why we have gathered here.' Lucy looked at her son.

He was perfect in her eyes. She did not understand why her late husband's sister spoke to him the way she did.

'Lucy, you must not coddle this child always. Surely he shall have no regard for you.' Cordelia tapped the table rapidly.

'Do not worry your head about my son's regard for me. That is not the most important thing at this time.' Lucy looked away from Richard.

Just then, Oliver walked in. It had begun to drizzle and so his apparel was a little wet.

'You must forgive my lateness.' He said and sat on the empty chair.
