Chapter XLVIII: Downfall 2

"Glory to the sun of the kingdom!"

Praise by the people as they bowed down on their knees.

Walking past them was a man on his bare feet, but his clothing up to his toes was covered in glistening gold, blinding their eyes as it is hit by the radiance of the morning sun that passes through the glasses of the window.

As he sits on his throne, his lips grin and form wrinkles on his face. Seeing it made all of the people inside the hall gaze at one another like they'd already known what was coming.

"Your Majesty!"

called the old man with thick pince-nez between his eyes as he walked on his knees towards the man who was sitting like a thug on his gigantic sparkling chair that was made of clear jeweled crystals.

"I command you to speak."

He stated it in a coarse tone of voice while the man hesitated to look and even raised his head in front of their king with a malicious grin.

"Your Majesty..."

He paused as he let out a silent, deep breath that only he could hear.

"The people were in chaos after the saintess was found to be a witch; they even burned down the temple into ashes after they took all of the holy extracts of Natus that were supposed to be hidden from the people."

He then paused for a second.

"What do we do, your majesty?"

He then asks the question in distress, but the man on the throne just laughs, as if it were not a serious matter worth paying attention to.

"BWAHAHHAAHAHA!"

'How can he laugh at a serious problem? '

The old man stole a glance before he flinched on his sight after the man sitting on the throne had hardly slammed his hand on the handle of the chair.

"That useless bitch!"

He shouted, which made them feel anxious for some reason.

"She always does everything to disappoint me!"

Just then, the place was eaten by the hymn of silence when he suddenly closed his mouth just to caress the jewelry on his clothes.

"Hmmmm. Let it be. It will be easier if the residents dispose of her; in that way, I'll be saving a penny."

He paused as his face lit up with a malicious smile on his lips.

The servant then walked towards him with caution as he whispered something in his ears.

"Khalid de'l Urchtdorf, was it?"

The man nodded.

"Let him take all the blame. Bwahahahaha!"

He continued to laugh as his voice covered the entire hall.

"I can smell the money coming my way."

He stated as he caressed the diamond necklace on his neck, while his golden teeth shimmered as he continued to laugh like a hyena.

Meanwhile, back in the alley, Agnette could be seen frozen on her feet like a statue as Khalid covered her mouth with his hand before she could even scream in terror, that even though she was to be found by the people, she would not be saved but would only suffer two times—no hundred of times like the residents she betrayed, until the day comes she wishes to die.

"bchcjchcc4v!" (Let go!)

Agnette muffled as she struggled to breathe from the smoke that covered Khalid's body.

She kicked and slapped his hand before he decided to let go of his touch.

"How did you even find me?! "

She whispered, but it was as if she was shouting in rage while her face was contorted in anger.

"No wait!"

She paused before she started screaming, which caught people's attention.

"It's all your fault! -

"Everything has gone down in flames because of you! It was all because of you! "

He shouted as her face turned red like a ripped tomato, while Khalid just watched him fume in anger before he responded, looking beside Agnette, where he could see all of the people walking in their direction.

"Yeah, right, I make things go this way."

He replied with a contemptuous, apathetic tone of voice while he stared at her captivating lilac-colored eyes.

(The day of Khalid and the saint's first meeting)

"Don't kill me!"

Agnette begged as she fell flat on the floor.

"I'll do anything you say, so spare me!"

She added while biting her lips as they began to bleed, adding a mess to the bloody room that was covered with shattered glass and a broken statue.

Just then, before Khalid had replied, he had walked slowly near her, holding her chin.

"Who said I'd kill you?"

He mocked her as her hands trembled.

"If you've done one thing for me, then I'll gladly spare you."

He whisphered in her ears.

"I'll do it as long as I have the ability."

Agnette then obediently agrees as Khalid's dull eyes pierce right into her soul.

"Of course you have; it's simple..."

He then tilted his head before continuing to speak.

"Spread the news that you have been hiding the holy extract of Natus in the temple-

Before Khalid could barely finish his word, Agnette shouted in disagreement, frowning his brows with a pair of flaring eyes.

"Do you think I'm stupid to do that?!"

"Did I say so?"

He glares.

"I'll die…"

She whispered as her eyes began to water, looking at the red-tainted marble floor instead of Khalid, whose face was as apathetic as ever.

"I don't care."

"Take all the blame and leave the matter to me."

His cold response had made her grit in disbelief.

Agnette even concluded that he does not even care who lives or who dies, which leaves her no choice but to agree on the matter.

She then slowly closed her eyes before she coldly replied with a trembling voice, looking at him with a flaring eye.

"Then you'll have to spare my life in exchange."

She affirmed as she let go of the piece of glass in her hand.

"I will."

Khalid replied as he twisted his pinky finger, which created an invisible string wrapping around his finger before it was connected to Agnette.

"I hate you, you asshole-*hick!*

He sighed when she began bawling her eyes out like a child, punching Khalid continuously on his chest.

"Cover your face; crying doesn't suit you."

He mocked her as he fixed the hood on her head, covering his face.

'This jerk!'

She thought before her eyes widened when she saw a passel of silhouettes, one by one, appearing on the floor that were coming in their direction.
