Voices

Early in the morning, Mary walked around the village, asking everyone she saw. She asked them"Have you seen my brother?"

But they all replied the same"Your brother must have been kidnapped." or "Your brother is long gone."Even though, all of them told her to give up but she never did.

In the following days, she continued searching and asking for her brother but there was nothing. Until one day, Mary went to talk to the old man, who bought her into the village.

She asked the old man about her missing brother.

"Please, you got to help me find him, "Mary said desperately.

"No! I already told you! His long gone! Quit trying to find him!"The old man said annoyedly.

"Please! He's my brother! He's my only family! You need to help-"

A voice attracted Mary, sounded like someone screaming for help. She attuned her ears and followed the voice. The old man looked at her, weirdly turning her head left and right. He looked at her for a while and sighed. Then, he left.

Mary carefully and patiently listened to the voice. She walked straight, listening to the voice. The sound kept getting louder and louder as she walked.

Suddenly, she knocked on something and it was the well in the middle of the village. She heard the voices more clearly now.

The sound sounded familiar, I know this sound somewhere. It sounded like my brother! Wait...wait, I think I need to calm down maybe I'm overhearing things. Let me hear the voice again.

She attuned her ears once more. She heard it screaming"Sister! Help me! Let go of me! Sister, Help!"Mary knew immediately that it was her brother.

She yelled back"Brother! Are you in there? Answer me!"But there was no reply. Not even a single sound.

She went and asked people to help her. But everyone just looked at her with a pitiful expression. She could hear some of them whispering to each other saying"Poor girl, she must really love her brother."

Mary turned around and glared at them and left. They all looked at me with those pitiful looks! I hate it! It makes me feel like I'm some crazy woman, who can't let go of her missing brother! I'm sure that I heard him. But....nobody believes me!

She increased her speed as she walked. Suddenly, she stopped and looked back. She stared at the well and thought, should I go down there? I heard my brother's voice there...he sounded scared. As an older sister, how can I just ignore that even if I was just overthinking, I should take a look for myself.

Mary looked away from the well and looked at her house. She walked back into her house and laid on an armchair. I shouldn't go down there now. The villagers would think that I'm crazy, thinking that my brother is inside a well. So...I think it is better if I go down at night when everyone is sleeping. Yes, that should be a good time. I guess now, I have to prepare for it.

She stood up from the armchair and left to prepare.
