A Sweet Reunion

"Claude! Nicole!" I shouted. Running up the stairs with the pups on my heels. They were waiting for me at the foot of the stairs. I stopped and gave each of them a pat before I ran

When we reached the upper floor landing, they ran ahead of me. I followed them, knowing that they would be leading me to the kids.

We stopped at the doorway of the small library of the house. They were scratching the door, I took a deep breath, turned, and opened the door.

In the center of the room were two sofas, the whole floor was covered in a beige rug, and the room was filled with books and games. My kids were sleeping on each of the sofas.

Each of the dogs climbed on the respective child and cuddled with them. I covered my mouth to prevent a sob from being heard. That's when I felt Duncan's hand on my shoulder. The way his touch comforted me. The words he told me melted and all I could feel was relief that the kids were okay.
