"Little Xi, I got news from the crew. They're going to start filming this Thursday." It was dinner time and Yang Jingshen had been mindlessly chewing on his food when his cousin dropped this news suddenly. "Also, they will shoot your first scene in the early period."
"Hmmm?" He drank some water and wiped his mouth before asking, "When is that?"
"Tuesday next week."
"Ah."
Feng Xi once again resumed eating, disinterest evident on her face. If Feng Xue didn't know better, she'd have thought this child doesn't have even an iota of interest in her upcoming role in the drama 'My forever spring'.
Yet, she had seen how her little cousin had exerted a lot of effort to practice walking using high heels, not to mention how she kept watching various educational videos related to acting as well as previous works of director Tian.
But ever since she had fainted after passing the audition that day, this kid, Feng Xi, had been acting listless and tired all the time. Forget her present conduct, she had even given Feng Xue a big scare with her erratic behavior when she had first woken up at the hospital in T city.
Laughing one moment, and sighing and pouting the next– she once even punched at the air, later claiming that she had seen a bug and was just trying to kill it. Feng Xue had stopped a retort that had been at the tip of her tongue, fearing upsetting her already fragile baby sister. For heaven's sake, who'd kill a bug by punching at it, eh? This kid– who was she fooling?
For a moment there, she had even worried whether the earliest misdiagnosis of the doctors back at the Shanxin hospital of the capital city about Feng Xi having 'delusional disorder' might not be a misdiagnosis after all. But fortunately, after some time, this child had calmed down and even though she still behaved a bit strangely, the doctors had chalked it up to fatigue and constant mental stress.
'*Sigh* I wonder if my decision to keep her in the industry until the contract expires is a good one. Should I just try and negotiate with the company to terminate it– to see if I can lower the penalty?'
She once again glanced again at her absent-minded cousin who had already finished eating and was now helping her to do the dishes. What should she do?
Contrary to what Feng Xue imagined, Yang Jingshen was not stressed at all at this moment. Instead, he was marveling at the epic brain hole of an individual called 'Divine grape' a.k.a. the author of the novel 'How to be a superstar'. Writing it like this, this lord author should have just turned it into a reverse harem plot, instead of simply stopping it at gathering a bunch of loyal admirers ah! ◐_◐
The start had been rocky with terrible writing– but it improved as the story progressed. But according to Yang Jingshen, this was probably the only positive point about this whole farce of a story.
Oh, don't get him wrong. He didn't have anything against reverse harem or a single woman having multiple admirers or whatever. Though a bit unrealistic, this concept is also used in genres followed by men ne; just look at harem novels!
Of course, as a purely male creature whose every single pore had once upon a time emitted a sizeable amount of testosterones, it was a bit difficult for Yang Jingshen to envision a bunch of men sharing one woman -again with him being a man, he knew better than anyone else how territorial and possessive men could get- but then again, who was he to judge?
Of course, he also wasn't the boorish type of fella who'd act like a male chauvinist and go around saying stuff like 'men can do this and that, but women can't.' He's too intelligent to do something so suicidal ah! →_→
That aside– why our Yang Jingshen simply doesn't like this book was not merely because it caused him to transmigrate into a woman's body in a different world nor was it because the damned thing made him uncomfortable. No- it was because it lacked logic. Yep, that's right– the story was simply illogical and appeared like an amateur's effort at playing grown-up.
Plot holes everywhere, the rich and powerful admirers– from wealthy businessmen to world-renowned actors, to young masters of noble families and even bosses of international crime syndicates who seem to appear in an endless stream in front of the MC.
And, it was like these powerhouses of men went crazy over the book's protagonist 'Guo Ying'. But in the end, they were still able to willingly give up the chance to receive her affection in face of her lasting happiness with the ML 'Wei Zheng'.
When Yang Jingshen first read a character doing this, he was like 'What the hell man? Are you even a man? You sure your dick is still intact or what? Like, shouldn't you be more territorial and try better to snatch the woman away?' Besides, even proper and certified simps don't act in this manner, when confronted with their crush or woman of their fantasies or whatever. m(_ _)m
'Whatevs!' he had thought in the end and decided to continue reading. After all, he still needed to get a proper idea of the plot so he could better enact his 'revenge'. But then a second character appeared -who went crazy for the protagonist but was still able to tolerate the ML- and then a third character, a fourth, and so on.
If a powerful man appeared in front of the protagonist, you can be absolutely sure of one thing without fail– this guy was going to be her loyal admirer, slave of love, the 'your's truly- one and only forever'. This was hundred percent, no– five hundred percent guaranteed. :ℨ
What's scary was that all these men act totally crazy about this Guo Ying so much so that they become literal stalkers and psychopaths who were ready at a moment's notice to get blood on their hands to right any wrong done to their beloved goddess, but still could selflessly give up their happiness with her so she could be happy with her beloved 'Wei Zheng'.
'So, what's the logic in that!? Seriously, if you're a psychopath, you should act like one to the very end! What's with this selflessly sacrificing your love in the middle? These fuckers!'
Even being the half and there-not-yet-there man inside woman outside creature that he was now, even Yang Jingshen felt ashamed of this type of half-assed conduct!
But what's scariest wasn't this, but the fact that all these things were actually supposed to happen in real life. Of course, the plot hadn't progressed much as of now -the protagonist probably having met the ML and probably one or at best two of these powerful admirers-, but what would happen when this damned woman manage to recruit all these powerhouses?
With their eagerness to wreak havoc for her sake, won't the world literally turn into a blood bath? And, what of the numerous plot holes in this shitty book? It's fine since it was a book, but since this plot happens in an actual world, won't these deficiencies need to be compensated one way or other?
How was it going to happen? By taking up more lives and causing even more chaos? Yang Jingshen shuddered and quickly wrapped the quilt tighter around himself to ward off the chill. It was now almost winter and the air in the room was cold, especially since the heating was kept to a minimum to save on energy expenses.
Yang Jingshen would admit that he was not a good man. He had always worked towards achieving his own goals, without worrying if the others get harmed in the process. If he ever bothered about another's well-being, it was only to protect his own interests.
But, being the selfish prick that he was, even Yang Jingshen could truthfully proclaim himself to have never harmed a fellow human to this level. Reading this book, and fully well knowing that it was real had given him goosebumps. Can human lives be discarded and killed like you would do to some annoying mosquitoes, simply because they took a bite out of you?
And let's not forget that this type of incomparably pampered, protected, and cherished protagonist, who had a bunch of powerful men revolving around her all day long, like how planets in the solar system would revolve around the sun, would still be the victim of a myriad of schemes by hundreds of jealous rivals.
It was like these people lacked any brains and both their IQ and EQ values seem to reach sub-zero levels once it involves this 'mortal enemy'- the incomparable protagonist. It was like they totally had mud inside their skulls instead of properly functioning brains, and they'd fearlessly forge on with their useless revenge, even as they see their counterparts getting ruthlessly destroyed by the protagonist's pack of guards. The original Feng Xi was one prime example.
'Does this shitty book even decrease people's brain capacity or something?'
Most importantly, how was he gonna get this bloody 'revenge' with the way this Guo Ying was protected by the plot armor? Because not even for a moment would Yang Jingshen believe anyone if they said that this revenge of Feng Xi's wasn't ultimately going to end up leading to this Mary Sue-esque female lead!
'Waitwaitwait– With how easily this Book protagonist gets caught up in others' schemes and suffers this and that, I could probably also cook up something and still manage to get away in the end without suffering too much backlash, right?' =⁰𝟶⁰=

A/N:
Yesterday, I went with one of my family members and their acquaintances to visit an old seaport, way back from the colonial era. The quaint buildings and the small alleyways in the older parts of the town where the fortress overlooking the sea was located looked absolutely enchanting.
I have maybe gone there already four or even five times, but I never get bored of seeing these sights. It felt like traveling back in time and made me wonder how those people from hundreds of years ago lived there. Really nostalgic!
