Yang Jingshen selected the 'accept' button without much thinking and the quest task turned a pale red color with an indication of 'pending' in front of it. After all, this kind of task for him was as easy as breathing.
Granted, that kid, Yu Xiuran, appeared a bit too slippery and slick, but a kid was still a kid. And despite this body's young age, he himself was nowhere near to being considered immature or childish. Dealing with this kind of fussy brat was a piece of cake for him.
'The rewards are a bit too little, but I guess it's not too unfair. This is quite easy and I at least get something in return.' Except for this newly opened side quest, he still had a task to complete from the main quest line as well. Deciding to check on it once again, yang Jingshen clicked on the 'Main quests' and opened the branching quest option .
Displayed underneath it were two options, the upper one glowing in a pale red color, while the lower one appeared grayed out with a tick mark in front of it. Yang Jingshen clicked on the pending task .
Seeing the rewards once again, Yang Jingshen scoffed in his heart– they were the same old stuff. 'But… this healing potion–'
If he remembered correctly, the description said something about it having an effect on healing deeper injuries, right? If so, would it work on his leg injury? Because, if he wanted to be successful in this field, having this type of hidden injury can be quite an obstacle. And it'd require way too much money to heal if he was gonna go the orthodox medicinal route.
'Anyway, I can complete this task by end of next week and easily get this potion, so it'll be three of them in total. Guess I should just use one now and see what happens.'
Having taken this decision, he quickly went to the storage and touching on the test tube icon with the swirling pink liquid, was once again confronted with the same description label. And, at the very bottom was an option,
A few seconds later, Yang Jingshen found himself holding a physical replica of the familiar test tube. The glass felt cool in his hand, with the cap looking like it was also made from some sort of colored glass/stone (?). He suddenly shivered and held the tube tighter as it finally dawned on him that this thing was really happening.
Seeing the panel or screen or whatever with its myriad of options and constant changes was fine. Even the suddenly popping up quests as well as the constant notification sounds ringing in his ears indicating the reduction of the satisfaction values was also fine.
To hell with all that– he was even ok with the fact that he could enter some place called his heart lake, or that there was this mysterious being called a soul guardian in it, or that he could see a video game-like screen called panel issuing him various tasks, or that he was facing the threat of his soul getting snuffed out of existence at any moment by some bossy female ghost (soul?).
No– he was even fine with the fact that he got transmigrated into the body of the said female ghost in a completely different world. But now, holding something that seemed to finally connect all these illusory things with the physical world, Yang Jingshen couldn't help a shiver of trepidation passing along his spine.
'Bringing something that's foreign to this world into existence in its reality, is that ok? Am I doing the right thing?'
'...'
Forget it! He had never been a person to worry about others, much less think for the sake of the well-being of the world. So, why should he bother if this outside interference would change it the same way as was done by that novel's plot line?
Oh, well… who was he kidding? Him being alive like this was already change enough… like the butterfly effect, right? Call him selfish and cold. But Yang Jingshen firmly believed that he should first survive before anything else. If he doesn't care for his own well-being, and if he happened to die, won't the world simply go on without him as if nothing happened? So, why should he care what happens to it!?
He resolutely uncorked the cap of the tube and without further ado, simply downed the pale pink liquid inside in one go.
The cool liquid that tasted a bit like peach jam slid down his throat easily leaving an aftertaste that felt like vanilla ice cream. 'Yum!' Yang Jingshen licked his lips to savor the delightful taste. He hadn't sampled anything this sweet after waking up in this world in fear of OOC'ing. Never had he expected to taste something like this by just drinking some outlandish medicine.
Still licking his lips, he waited patiently as he felt the cool liquid flow down his throat and settle comfortably in his stomach, before a light warmth could be felt flowing all over his body, making it tingle from deep within. Yang Jingshen still bade his time as he waited with bated breath for any visible change to happen, but even after a full ten minutes had passed…
'Huh? Why isn't anything happening? Shouldn't I be like feeling a lot of pain and have impurities in my body expelled or something similar– like in those novels? Or, should I wait some more?'
But, nothing out of ordinary seemed to be happening even as more time passed, and he was also beginning to feel quite sleepy as well. So... was it a scam? But, Yang Jingshen could swear that he felt some sort of warmth when he drank this, like how one would feel when drinking a beer after coming home after spending a long, cold day outside.
Was it because it was just a low-level potion and his injury was too deep for this to be doing anything effective for it?
'Forget it, forget it! I'll just take it as having thrown this thing to dogs. Anyway, my scene tomorrow is scheduled in the morning, so I gotta wake up early. Better go to sleep for now.'
It was already nearing midnight and Yang Jingshen irritably went to sleep, totally missing out on the fact that the glass container with the potion had mysteriously disappeared while he was previously occupied with analyzing the effects of the potion on his body.
