Chapter eighteen

Max's POV

I woke up better the next day. While going to have breakfast, I could see Alysa busy with things in the kitchen. Apart from the fact that she was staying her due to circumstances. She turned out to be a big blessing to me. We have done a few things but I'm willing to take it slowly. I'm willing to build my clarity towards what I'm feeling about her.

Today, the look on her face was different, like age was confused and disturbed. I didn't have work to do today, so my focus was drawn to her instead. My work too felt like a barrier to budding what and how I felt about her.

I walked into the kitchen towards the coffee maker. She was chopping some vegetables, she loved making that in the morning—Her salad.

"Good morning! " Alysa said and it sounded so cold and disturbing.

"Are you okay, Aly?" I walked towards her as I stopped her from cutting the vegetables. I picked her hand, grabbed the other and planted my kisses on the top.

"I know I haven't really had enough time to discuss with you because of all the tussle at work."

"I appreciate the way you are taking care of the household and how you make decisions."

"...even when you are not my girlfriend." I concluded and she raised her eyes to me. She finished cutting and chopping the veggies. She dished it for herself and ignored what I said.

It was there and then that I knew I messed up

"Shit…" I whispered to myself.

"You know all those speeches aren't necessarily the problem right now…" She said while using her fork to pack a chunk of salads into her mouth.

"I can make it up to you. We can go out today if you wouldn't mind," I interrupted her.

She had to finish with her sadness before giving me an answer. I was waiting, I finished my cup of coffee.

"Sure, I'm in!" Alysa replied. I gave her a smile and I had no choice but to have salads with her that morning.

Later on, we left Malie in the house. Alysa has not said a word to Malie since morning. That alone felt quite unusual to me.

We decided to visit a Park. When we reached the Park we settled down and unnoticed she was becoming more comfortable to talk than when we were indoors, at home.

I decided to throw my question at her.

"So I noticed you did talk to Malie when we were at home." I said in a curious manner.

"Who is Mali?" She asked directly.

"Malie, the lady that stays with us." I said while paying attention to her. Then I knew something was wrong.

"There is no MALIE at our house, Max." She said again and a lot of things were running through my mind. I would have asked if she was dead but I saw her this morning. I saw Malie and she was fine.

"I wanted to have a discussion with you, Max."

"We are being spied on by someone and we have no ispied She said while demonstrating. Whenever Alysa demonstrated, I knew it was something serious.

"Malie is spying at us?" I asked as my heart started racing.

"I spoke to Malie back then when I was captured by Jeremy. She told me all about herself."

"But when she came here, she acted like a different person."

"She did not care about certain things I knew she cared about. She was just flowing with things that didn't exist. I found proofs too. J just had to wait for the perfect moment."

"Last night, I came up with my personal summary that she was spying on both of us."

"I had difficulties sleeping last night, so I thought I would go to check if she was up. I also planned on addressing the whole issues I had regarding her different behavior since she came to the house,"She said.

I adjusted myself a lot of times to pay attention to everything she was saying.

"She is not Malie, but Jalie. She is Malie's identical twin. I was too shocked. I remember catching her spying on us. But I ignored that." She continued.

"Wait, what?" I expressed my shock. If I wasn't told I would have believed her and lived in the dark. Meanwhile, the truth was right under my nose.

"We have to go back home immediately." I insisted. We stood up and left the Park. We had a very serious discussion but looking at Alysa's reaction and seriousness in things was attractive.

Very attractive.

We got back home, I could not even talk to Jalie. I wasn't even used to her real identity.

If it was Jalie or Malie. I never got to know Nakie had a twin, not just a twin, but an IDENTICAL twin.

For our own safety, she could have mentioned it. She could have.

Alysa brought a glass of water for me. She was so caring and nice.

"How about your family?" She asked while stretching out her hands with the glass of water.

"Why are you suddenly asking about my family?" I asked her.

"Why are you answering my question with a question? That shit can be annoying, Max." She became pissed off and I didn't see any reason for that.

"Why are you now acting pissed?" I raised my voice too, I didn't know why. I guess I was trying to defend myself.

"I have been at your place for a while now. You have not spoken about any of your family reactions or friends."

"A lot of things have been going under this roof and I am confused in such a way that I don't know who to believe anymore," She said while closing her eyes and putting her hands through her hair.

I was astonished by her actions and the fact that she didn't trust me.

"Why are you questioning me? What happened to the trust?"

"Which trust Max? There's no trust here."

"I have decided myself long enough and I am just fed up with having to keep silent about all the shit going on in my head." She raised her voice by the minute.
