Whirling from shock, Lia hurriedly threw the hood back over her head. Claude let go of her waist but continued to stare at her, equally distressed.

She knew she had to say something. Anything. But her lips could only gape stupidly. Her whole body was shaking, from her hands clutching her hood all the way down to her feet.

"I… must have been mistaken. I'm sorry, my lady." Claude's words were followed by a sigh above her head.

Mistake? He's apologizing?

Only then did she remember her current dress—she was a perfect lady. Her curves were accentuated by a corset, and the wig she wore flowed down to her waist in wavy locks.

Louver's veil of darkness had saved her.
