Chapter 65

"Eli, I'm not joking. The hawk flew to me! You don't believe me, do you?" Lia wiped the sweat from her forehead as she put down the bucket of clean water in front of the horse. Eli moved from chewing on fodder to sticking his head into the bucket with a disinterested face.

Eli was in a private stable, as he was getting on in years. Because he had to stay alone, separated from the other horses, he welcomed Lia warmly every time she visited the stables.

Lia crouched down next to Eli, who seemed to be ignoring her and focusing on his fodder. "It said 'my Camellia.' I think it might be from my mom. I'm looking into who owns a hawk… not that you'd know. Right?" Eli merely twitched the tips of his ears as he chewed. She bolted up and busied herself with brushing the horse, face flushed red.

How silly I must look, talking to an animal.
