Chapter 8: Underground

The summoning jutsu is a simple space-time jutsu. When comparing it to the Flying Thunder God or Kamui its substandard. But there is one aspect of the summoning jutsu that increases its value.

When a person uses the summoning jutsu without having a contracted summon they are teleported to a summon that suits them. Among the various summons in this world there are several exceptional ones.

The toads of Mount Myoboku.

The snakes of Ryuchi Cave.

The slug sage Katsuyu of Shikkotsu Forest.

Of course there are many other summons, some probably even stronger than the summons from the three sage regions.

The elephant chimera Baku.

The extremely toxic salamander Ibuse.

The monkey king Enma.

Some summons have even shown the capability of rivaling or even surpassing bijuu showing that just like shinobi, summons have also managed to reach incredible levels of strength.

Jirayia became a summoner of Mount Myoboku because he attempted to use the summoning jutsu without actually having a summon. This made him summon himself to the doorsteps of Mount Myoboku.

Both Orochimaru and Tsunade should have done the same. I also plan to go down this route as well. Today is the day I get a summoning of my own. Whether its from one of the sage regions or not this is an extremely valuable opportunity that I can't afford to delay any longer.

Boar.

Dog.

Bird.

Monkey.

Ram.

All my senses become distorted as a large amount of smoke clogs my vision. After a few seconds my sight clears and I see an extremely dark cave that feels extremely empty.

Large rock structures stick out of the pitch black ceiling as well as on the gray uneven ground. I take a deep breath and taste the stale air, the soft trickling of water makes me notice a small little spring no more than a few feet wide behind one of the large boulders nearby.

Being careful not to make any noise I slowly walk to the water. Whatever lives down here probably relies on this to drink so I just need to wait until I see something.

I've come into one of the worst possible situations, the place I was summoned to is deep underground. If I can't get into a contract with the summoning creature here I'm fucked beyond belief.

I have enough food with me to last for months but I won't be able to go back to Konohagakure if I stay here for too long. The most I can afford is a couple of days and that's it.

Once I'm gone for long enough I'll be considered dead, I'm not yet a shinobi nor am I someone important so no one will look for me if I'm trapped here.

Not to mention that this place probably isn't anywhere near Konohagakure, I'd be lucky if I'm even in the land of fire to begin with.

The world of Naruto is something that was never explored in the anime, according to the borders it would seem that there is only the five great nations and many smaller nations between and around them but that simply isn't true.

There is land beyond what is considered the land of earth's territory as well as the land of wind. As for what inhabits that land that isn't claimed by any nation?

I have no idea, but I do have a few thoughts on the matter. Its fairly obvious that there isn't any type of human life besides maybe a few primitive villages beyond the borders.

I would imagine that all of that land is the territory of summons. Sure it may sure ridiculous to believe that but really think about it. All summons are capable of using chakra, most are able to speak and act as if they have human like intelligence.

Think of who the most powerful organisms were before Kaguya came to this planet. Humans weren't capable of using chakra and relied on primitive technology to fight. It was an animal, more specifically a toad that taught Hagaromo how to use nature energy.

The toads of Mount Myoboku already knew how to weaponize nature energy before even the ancestor of chakra did. That should tell you enough about the state of the world at that point.

If the toads of Mount Myoboku knew how to use nature energy wouldn't the snakes of Ryuchi Cave also know? Of course they would, the old toad sage and the snake sage were bitter enemies far before the time of the legendary sanin.

If only the toads knew they wouldn't have any natural predators or competition, it only makes sense that more animal species knew how to control nature energy at that time and even more so now.

Being completely honest, I suspect that most of this world is inhabited by animals capable of using nature energy. Humanity has only been on the rise since they became capable of using chakra.

Konohagakure has existed for less than one hundred years. If all things go according to canon then the entire shinobi system will also be destroyed in less than one hundred years.

The time frame in which shinobi and chakra itself have been the centerpieces of this world is far too short. How long ago did the animals of this world learn to use nature energy?

Even now summons are a prominent force. Gamabuta managed to go toe to toe against Shukaku, one of the tail beasts made by Hagaromo Otsutsuki. Imagine regular humans trying to take on that monster, what type of weapons do humans use now?

Kunai, shuriken, senbon, swords, very basic weaponry that isn't even made out of special materials or anything. Imagine a few thousand men with swords charging at a monster hundreds of feet tall that can launch wind bullets the size of houses.

If I were to assume this is what would happen if humans tried to kill summons then wouldn't humans learn to completely avoid the territory and habitats that the summons lived in?

That is what I imagine to be the layout of this world, five large nations and several small ones spread out over a single continent while the rest of the world is infested with animals.
