A powerful threat

Mirena widened her eyes and pushed Luke's chest forcibly. She knew it would be impossible to be his girlfriend and they talked about it since then.

She tried to catch her breath in dismay. Never once in her life, had Mirena ever wanted to destroy the friendship she shared with Luke. He'd been beside her since their younger years and she knew it won't work at all.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" she clamored.

For a few seconds, she looked intently into Luke's glinting eyes. Mirena was embarrassed by Drake because of her best friend's unreasonable behavior. It was an important meeting for her, for heaven's sake.

Her sudden reaction surprised Luke. He couldn't believe Mirena wanted to stay with the man who almost drugged her last night.

He then cursed loudly and kicked off the ground.

"Goddamn it! He was the last person you've talked to before you lost your consciousness!" Luke pulled his hair out of frustration. "Can't you see the truth, Mirena? He's a fucking dangerous man!"

Luke has strong instincts about Drake Quinn. Seeing him around with Mirena effortlessly changed his mood. It seemed like he was born to protect his hard-headed and careless friend.

Aside from the possibilities, he sensed that Drake was hiding something from the people. He could see it through his eyes, and he won't stop until he proved it to Mirena.

A long silence created a gap between the three of them. Even how hard he tried to tell her the danger, Mirena couldn't see it through her naked eyes. She was blinded by Drake's convincing words which made it difficult to change.

"Damn! I don't know why you are talking about this right now, but Drake explained to me what exactly happened last night! If you are still doubtful, why don't you ask first?" Mirena didn't know what to do with Luke anymore.

Without anyone's expectation, Luke just came around and overreacted as soon as he caught a glimpse of Drake. He doesn't know why, but he only wanted to stay Mirena away from him as much as he could.

Luke took a deep breath and grabbed her arm once again. It would be best if they would settle things privately.

He then chose to calm down instead of asking Drake who was watching him silently. Every time he looked at his face, there was a strong feeling that urged him to attack the enemy.

He said, "Let's talk about it somewhere else!"

Like usually happened, Mirena would go with him. But things changed without any signs.

"Stop telling me what to do with my life! Who are you in the first place?" Mirena asked him without a break.

She didn't know that it hurt Luke's feelings. The fact that he was only thinking about her safety became a bad move. It shocked him as he glanced into her eyes for a few seconds.

This time around, Drake Quinn entered the scene and held Mirena's wrist tightly. He then put her behind his back and faced Luke with enough courage.

He said, "Why does it hard for you to understand her? Mirena doesn't need your help and we are not doing anything wrong!"

Drake met Luke's burning gaze and none of them either wanted to look away. The stronger must win and the weak would be the loser.

At this point, two men with different intentions met under the same roof. If Luke would leave her with him, no one could ever stop him from his plans.

As a true, caring friend, Luke didn't want to see Mirena crying and heartbroken. But if that was what she wanted, then he had no choice but to obey her words.

Despite the anger within his chest, Luke shook his head in agreement. He surrendered to make it short and straightforward.

He lifted his head and looked deeply at Mirena's eyes.

"Fine. If that's what you want to do with your life! But don't you dare cry in front of me when things go wrong!"

As a man, Luke predicted Drake's true color. He couldn't be wrong this time around. However, the only person who made it come true was Mirena. If she would stop seeing him, her life would be peaceful.

She would enjoy her life toying with a man every week and dump him. Now that the twist of fate occurred, things won't fall according to her will.

By then, Luke fixed his sleeve and walked towards the door with a sign of dismay. He slammed it which brought Mirena to her senses.

She quickly took her purse when her phone rang. Mirena breathed heavily when she saw the caller's name on the screen.

But before she tapped the answer button, she turned her head and smiled shortly over her shoulders at Drake. It was a simple gesture of, "Don't worry, I will fix it, and everything would be okay."

"I apologize for my friend's reaction. I… I didn't know he would take it very seriously like I am dead now!" A bitter smile flaunted on her lips as she tried to make it up with Drake.

Mirena's face turned red as she found it too humiliating. It was supposed to be a peaceful and productive discussion that turned out to be a disaster.

However, even with how eager she was to fix the mess that Luke started, Mirena had to leave and meet his father.

She sighed and stared at her for a few seconds.

"I… I have to go," she murmured as her eyes twinkled. "See you around, Mr. Quinn!"

Drake nodded and smiled brightly at her. Deep inside, he could no longer wait to see Mirena kneeling on the ground. It would be an interesting ending for him.

He then bowed his head and replied, "No, you don't have to say sorry. I should be the one asking for it because I didn't treat your friend nicely."

"He's just drunk. He will go back to his senses right away." she confidently answered.

However, after he met Luke. Drake feared that he might destroy his plans. He was not an ordinary friend of Mirena and for sure, he won't surrender that easily.

"He's a powerful threat. I must give him a lesson before he could disclose everything about my identity." Drake whispered as he watched the playgirl's perfect back from a distance.
