The Butterfly Knife

It was a busy and cold night. The time was already midnight but numerous cars could still be seen rushing by. There were still a lot of people roaming around the streets, perhaps going for a late-night stroll. The night was very alive, just like how it usually is in the city of New York.

In one of the moving cars was a girl playing with a butterfly knife in her hand. She was skillfully spinning the knife around her fingers, doing some tricks that ranged from basic to advanced ones. To complete her combo, she threw the knife up whilst it was spinning and perfectly caught it unharmed. A satisfied smirk was plastered on her face after pulling a dangerous stunt perfectly.

As she was internally praising herself, she felt her phone vibrate through her pocket. She put her knife away and reached for her phone to check for messages. It was from an unknown number.

She sighed. She already knew who this was from and what it's all about. It's the person who has been harassing her nonstop. Nevertheless, she decided to open and read the message.

Look who's here with me again. He just keeps coming back to me. I guess you can't make Kim feel as good as I can. What a pity.

After the message, there was a video attachment. She didn't have to guess what it's about as the thumbnail already showed an explicit image.

Disgusting. She thought.

Without bothering to watch the video at all, she deleted the message and blocked the number. There's no way she'd let something like this bother her. Not that it would since she doesn't give a damn at all.

The ride continued for another 5 minutes before they reached the front of a tall condominium building. The girl grabbed some cash from her purse and paid for her Uber before getting out of the car.

Upon entering the building, she was immediately greeted by the guards.

"Good evening Ms. Sidra." One guard greeted with a bright smile

"Just Rin is fine." She corrected the guard.

"Oh, I'm sorry." The same guard apologized while bowing his head.

Rin only gave him a small nod and continued making her way to one of the elevators. Once she did, she pressed the up button and waited. It didn't take more than a minute for the elevator to arrive.

She immediately stepped in after the ding and told the elevator operator which floor she was going to. While waiting, she took her knife out of her pocket and started flipping it once more. Her floor level was pretty high up so it naturally took a while.

As she was playing with the blade, she looked at the streets through the glass window. It was a beautiful view, something that she adored a lot.

There's just something about busy city nights that brings comfort to her. Maybe it's the lights, maybe it's the sound, it remains unknown even to her. This place has its fair share of bad things, but she can't deny that the city life is breathtaking.

After a few more seconds, the elevator arrived on her floor. She folded her knife close and returned it to her pocket before leaving the elevator to go to her unit.

Some number of steps later, she finally arrived in front of the door. She took her key card from her purse and used it to open the door. Afterward, she went in.

Immediately, she saw her boyfriend sitting on the sofa with a glass of either whiskey or bourbon in his hand. She was a little surprised to see him already home at this hour. Usually, he'd still be outside.

Rin felt like it was too awkward to ask him about it so instead, she notified him about her arrival. "I'm back."

He didn't say anything back to her and instead one-shot his glass. Rin wasn't bothered at all and just went back to her own thing. It was then she remembered an important thing she had to tell him.

"I also dropped the package off at Mr. Cheng's. He said the payment has been sent into your account." Rin informed while taking her jacket off.

Suddenly, she felt his arms wrap around her waist while kissing her neck. His eagerness could be felt from the way he was holding her. It was as if he was longing for so long.

However, Rin was just getting annoyed with this and tried to push him away from her.

"Kim." She firmly hissed at him.

"Why did you take so long? I've been waiting for you," Kim asked as he continuously kissed her neck.

No matter how much Rin tried to push him, he was persistent and kept being all up on her. At one point, Rin had to use full strength to push him off of her. That in which she successfully did.

"Didn't that dumb blonde bitch satisfy you already? Leave me alone!" Rin angrily yelled at him.

Kim looked at her with a slightly panicked expression. He didn't expect to be suddenly called out like that. He was taken aback by it.

"What are you saying?" Kim asked.

Rin sighed in annoyance before walking away from him. "I'm not in the mood for this, just leave me alone."

"You're acting crazy! You've been listening to rumors, have you?" Kim asked, waiting for the girl's response but she never did, which annoyed him. "I thought you weren't that dumb to believe such baseless accusations. Turns out, you're just as delusional as them."

This set Rin on fire, making her stop her steps and look back at him.

"Don't think I'm dumb. Of course I know you've been fooling around behind my back." Rin said frankly. Kim was ready to defend himself but Rin continued talking before he could get the chance to talk. "I don't think you're oblivious to what's been going on between us either. It's a bunch of B.S."

Kim stayed still and quietly listened to Rin.

"Did you think that I believed you changed your trashy personality just for me? I've known from the start that the son of a government official is such a bad boy." Rin smirked. "I knew right from the start."

Kim stayed silent after hearing everything Rin said. His facial expression was hard to read, Rin was unsure about how he felt about the information she gave him. The room was deafeningly silent, absolutely no sound can be heard.

Rin took this as a cue to go on with the talking.

"I'm satisfied with the current transactions we have. You can go sleep with as many women as you like for all I care. I'll run all your sketchy errands too." Rin said. "But not without compensation."

Assuming that Kim had nothing to say, she prepared to walk away. Until she heard him laugh. He was clapping his hand at the same time. He was impressed. When he thought he had her fooled, it was the other way around the whole time.

"You sly little brat," Kim growled as he looked deep into Rin's eyes. He then started walking towards her. Rin, who was a little freaked by him, took a step back each time he took a step forward.

Eventually, she hit the wall, meaning she couldn't step back any longer. As a result, her distance from Kim shortened until there was no longer space left. He stood right in front of her.

Kim smirked. "You're the first ever to have played with the son of 'a government official'. Congratulations."

"I'm just glad that we can come to an agreement," Kim uttered before he started forcing himself on Rin once again, using her lack of space to his advantage.

Rin tried very hard to get him off of her but he was too strong. Even with full strength, she couldn't get away from Kim. He was holding onto her body very tightly to the point where she was almost suffocating.

Kim started to rip Rin's shirt off which sent her into a full fight or flight response. She remembered her butterfly knife inside her pocket that she could use to get Kim away from her. She struggled to reach for her pockets but the moment she did, she unfolded it and slashed his arm, which successfully made him back off.

"Argh!" Kim groaned as he held his arm in pain.

"Stay the hell away from me!" Rin yelled, pointing the knife at him to keep him away.

Kim looked at how much blood was seeping out of his wound. The cut Rin made was pretty deep which made so much blood rush out.

"I'm not afraid to use this to slice your throat open." Rin threatened. "I'm not afraid to expose your illegal business either. You think I didn't know the only reason you're keeping me around is because you're using me as your mule."

Kim looked back at her with fury in his eyes. He gritted his teeth, trying to contain his anger.

"You don't know how powerful my family is. I can make sure that nobody will ever find your body, not even the FBI." Kim threatened. "Don't try me, Sidra."

He attempted to get a hold of Rin once more but she was already seeing him as a big danger so when she saw him reach for her, she quickly swung her knife to try and get him to step back.

A constant cycle of attacking and dodging was taking place in such a short amount of time. While Rin was trying to pierce the blade through his skin, Kim kept on dodging but just barely. The intense action lasted until Kim was reaching a corner.

When Rin had him cornered to the wall, she didn't waste any time and raised her knife to stab him.

However, Kim was quick to react to this and held her wrist back to stop her hands from going in motion. He still had strength left in him so he was able to hold her off, making Rin struggle to stab him. The tension in the room was high, it was so loud even though they were barely making any sounds.

Then suddenly, the sound of glass shattering caught the attention of Rin as it startled her. She shot her head in the direction of the noise and saw another person standing there. Immediately, she recognized this person. It was Kim's brother.

Seeing the girl vulnerable, Kim took this chance to try and take the knife from her hand. He attempted to get a hold of the handle but Rin was quick to think and tightened her grip on the knife. They both struggled for a bit before Kim thought of another idea. First, he turned her wrist so that the knife would face away from him then with force, pushed it towards Rim, causing the blade to slice through her cheeks.

This made Rin take a step back. The wound stung too much to be ignored. Soon, she felt blood running down her jaw, to her neck. The cut was so deep that blood rushed out quicker. It was a lot painful as well.

But instead of stepping down, it only angered Rin even more. She once again charged at him to try to stab him, this time her movements were quicker as the adrenaline and rage mixed in her body. Kim could only block for so long and before he knew it, the knife hit his shoulder.

Rin pulled her knife out of his flesh to stab him again but she was suddenly pulled away by her shoulders with force. She tried to grab the hand on her shoulder but it brought her more bad than good.

Upon getting in contact with the hand, her arm was twisted to her back and locked in place. Then, she fell to the ground by being tripped. Rin felt a heavyweight holding her down which made it difficult to breathe. Now, they had the upper hand.

"Kim help me here you dumbass!" The man yelled while struggling to hold Rin down.

"Shut up, Sean," Kim said as he held Rin's legs down.

"What happened here?" Sean asked Kim.

"Let me go you psychos!" Rin yelled out.

Sean turned his head to face his brother. "You better speak up dingbat, what the hell happened here?!"

"Code blue."

"Imbecile!" Sean yelled in anger. "Are you trying to get arrested?!"

While the two were talking, Rin managed to get ahold of her knife once again and stabbed the arm of Sean, resulting in him getting off her. He backed away as he groaned in pain.

"Crap! What the hell?!" Sean angrily looked at Rin.

Now that Rin's upper body was free, getting out of Kim's grasp became possible. She turned her body around and kicked his face. Doing this set her lower body free.

Immediately, she pulled herself up while keeping an eye on Kim. He quickly recovered from the blow and was prepared to get up, but not before Rin pulled the knife out from Sean's arm and charged at him.

With that much adrenaline and speed, she knocked him to the ground with her being on top. Rin looked into his eyes for the last time, displaying coldness in hers. She was letting him know that she was about to kill him with no hesitation.

The fear and shock in his eyes was the only view she needed before raising her knife to her head.

But then, everything went black.
