Hidden Anger

Ever Since the unexpected incident, Rin stopped attending the training. She skipped even the important ones just to figure out what happened to her. She went through various books trying to get an answer for what she did but found none.

The more she looked, the more desperate she was for an answer. For days she tried to summon the black hole again but it wouldn't come out, nothing would. It was as if she lost all the skills she had.

Rin has had more than 10 trips to the library. Wong was questioning her each time. He found her quite bothersome but was also concerned as he's heard that she has not been seen recently. To top it off, it was unusual for her to not be seen with Stephen, which made him more suspicious of what's been going on.

Rin was now making her way to her room with a stack of books in her hand. Somehow, she was able to balance all of them and not fall. Soon, she reached her room.

The moment she entered, she jumped at the sight of the Ancient One standing in the middle of her room.

"You scared me." Rin said as she hurriedly placed the book on the table beside her bed. One more second of carrying the books and she would have collapsed. She then began cleaning up the mess scattered on the floor. "The room is kind of a mess right now, I wasn't able to clean much."

"I haven't seen you around recently." The Ancient One spoke while watching Rin tidy up.

"Oh, I guess I just wanted to do some self-training. Maybe I can make better progress with that." Rin picked up the pillows and blankets that she used for physical training.

However, the Ancient One knew that simply wasn't the case. She already knew what was keeping Rin from sessions of training. "I can tell that something's wrong."

"Nothings wrong." Rin assured, though having a slight change of tone in her voice. Then, after picking up the mess on the ground, she proceeded to fix her bed, trying to make herself look busy in front of the Ancient One.

"You feel a sense of hatred and jealousy towards Mister Strange." The Ancient One revealed making Rin stop what she was doing. She turned to face the sorcerer supreme who looked at her with calm eyes. "Because he has advanced further than you even though you did the same exact thing. You couldn't keep up with him."

Rin stayed quiet. She didn't know how to respond to the Ancient One suddenly calling her out. She didn't want to admit that all her words are true, but she knows that she can't get away with a lie, especially with the Ancient One.

The Ancient One continued giving Rin a calm look. "Or perhaps, there is another reason?"

Rin immediately shook her head and chuckled at her. She didn't want to go any further with the conversation, especially when it's about Stephen. She dropped the sheets on her bed and slowly walked towards the Ancient One.

"I just wanted to try new things out." Rin said, giving her a smile of reassurance. "I'll go back to training tomorrow."

The Ancient One looked into Rin's eyes deeply like she was reading what's on her mind. Rin was unsure if it was something she was capable of doing, which made her anxious. But then the Ancient One gave her a small smile.

"Very well then, I shall see you tomorrow." She turned around and started to make her way outside only to be stopped by Rin. She turned to face the younger girl once more.

"I didn't get to say this earlier, but I'm thankful for everything you've done for me." Rin slightly bowed her head as a gesture of thanking the Ancient One. "Thank you for rescuing me and.. teaching me about the mystical arts."

The Ancient One lifted her chin up, tall and proud as she gave Rin a smile.

"Teaching mystic arts is my duty."

Rin and several other students were brisking through a portal that led to the New York Hospital. Not 5 minutes ago, they were informed with devastating news that the Ancient One has passed away. The moment they heard that, they rushed to go to the hospital.

Rin walked around the familiar corridors, trying to locate Stephen. If there was anyone who knew better, it would be him. Like how it usually was.

"Mister Mordo!" One of the students exclaimed. Rin was able to locate Mordo without much effort after looking around. After that, she ran to him.

"Mister Mordo." Rin called for him. However, he didn't look at her. In fact, he was looking out of it, staring at a distance like he was deeply thinking about something.

Once Rin arrived in front of him, she called for him once more. "Mister Mordo."

This time, Mordo was out of his thoughts and was looking at Rin. "Miss Rin?"

"What happened?" Rin asked.

"The Ancient One is no longer with us." Mordo said, sounding detached. "He was stabbed by Kaecillus."

Rin wasn't understanding anything. She didn't know who Kaecillus was and why he'd stab her, apart from that, she was overwhelmed with emotions. She didn't expect the Ancient One to pass away so soon.

"Stephen? Is he around?" Rin asked.

Mordo pointed at the room beside him. Rin nodded and without hesitating, entered the operating room. Without looking at the Ancient One's body on the operating table, she looked around for Stephen.

It didn't take too long before she finally found him. But she didn't approach him. Not after seeing Christine beside him. Still, she decided to stand there and listen to them, without a reason at all.

Stephen brought his hands up to Christine's face while looking deep into her eyes. Christine brought her hands up to caress Stephen's hands.

"You said that losing my hands didn't have to be the end, that it could be a beginning." Stephen said as he caressed Christine's face.

"Yeah.. because there are other ways to save lives." Christine said.

Rin continued to watch them with judgment in her eyes. It was another typical love story where the ending is never a happy one. She didn't understand why they'd bother at all when they both know it won't end well.

"Doctor Palmer, to the ER please, doctor Palmer, to the ER." An announcer said through a speaker on the ceiling.

Rin looked up and located where the speaker was. Cool technology. She thought to herself.

"I don't want you to go." Stephen pleaded with Christine. At the same moment, Christine pulled Stephen in for a kiss. Rin sighed in annoyance.

Not this lovey-dovey crap. What kind of respect does he have for the Ancient One who died just now? Is he gonna prioritize this love bs over the chaos happening outside? Rin thought in irritation. Not wanting to witness any more of the two, she walked away and exited the room.

Rin continued to walking, still preoccupied with her thoughts.

May you rest in Peace, the Ancient One.

Rin walked for a couple more minutes, lost in her own thoughts. The moment she snapped out of it, she was already outside of the Hospital and was walking in the streets of New York.

Rin was hit with a sense of nostalgia as she walked around. She felt free again like back then, where she wasn't involved with magicians yet. When life was a lot more simple than how it currently is.

While walking, she spotted a nightclub ahead. Another wave of nostalgia hit her as she spotted a nightspot. Before Kim came into her life, this was the only thing she did. She got with Kim just to continue doing this, but he forbade her as he didn't want his reputation to get dragged down.

Overwhelmed with anger, distraught, stress, and frustration, Rin wasn't in the right emotion to make a decision rationally. It didn't take her long to decide to distract herself from everything and have fun for tonight.

Stephen was roaming around the city, searching for Rin. After a long and short fight with Kaecillus and Dormammu, he returned to Kamar-Taj to return the Eye of Agamotto. Then, he went to the New York Sanctum to continue his duty there with Wong.

He then realized that he hadn't seen Rin the whole day. He went to check on her back in Kamar-Taj, but she wasn't anywhere to be found. He asked some of the students who were at the hospital earlier and learned that she was with them at the time. That could only mean that she was still around New York.

So there he was, searching everywhere for where Rin could be. But it didn't take him too long to find her, with a little help from his abilities.

Rin was walking on a sidewalk with her hands in her pocket, looking down, seemingly not having a place to go in mind.

Stephen sighs as he approaches Rin. They haven't been on good terms for the past few weeks and every time Stephen tried to talk to her, she'd always ignore him. He didn't know why she suddenly acted like that and it was difficult to get an answer from her, but he still cared about her as his dear friend.

"What are you doing out here?" Stephen said as he stopped in front of Rin.

However, Rin just walked past him as if she didn't hear or see him. Stephen sighed and followed beside her

"Oh come on, still giving me the cold shoulder?" Stephen asked. "Is it because I ripped your favorite shirt? I'll get you a new one, look there's a store right there."

"Leave me alone, Strange." Rin told him off with a sharp tone. At the same time, she tilted to the side and almost fell off from being intoxicated. She felt lightheaded but tried her best to hide it.

But Stephen noticed this immediately and figured that she was drunk. "Did you go out drinking?"

"No." Rin defended. She then started walking faster to try and lose Stephen as she didn't want to be questioned further.

Rin walked and walked, focused on losing Stephen. But after a blink, she was in a different place. A place that didn't look familiar to her at all. There was a huge staircase ahead of her. The place looked like a mansion.

"W-what the.." Rin looked behind her and saw a portal where she walked through. Before she could even think of going back, Stephen immediately closed the portal.

Rin shot him with death glares. "Where did you take me?"

"This is the New York sanctum. It's where you and I will be staying from now on." Stephen revealed which caused more distress for Rin.

"I don't wanna be anywhere near you." Rin coldly spat out. She then went towards a big door that seemed to lead to the exit and tried to pull it open, but it was locked.

"Let me out!" Rin banged on the door while looking at Stephen.

"You were out in the streets, drunk as hell with nowhere to go." Stephen said. "It's dark outside and you're by yourself. There's no way I'm letting you out."

"I am not drunk!" Rin snapped at him. She had enough of Stephen and wanted to get away as far as possible. "I don't give a damn if I have to walk around all night in the dark by myself! Why do you even care?!"

"Rin, calm down and let's talk about this like adults-"

"There's no way I'm going near you, you arrogant, self-absorbed jerk!" Rin yelled in rage. "I hate you!"

"I don't understand, why are you being like this?"

"I never asked for this! I never asked to be involved in whatever this is!" Rin started to have a breakdown. "Maybe things would've been better if I just let him have his way."

"What?" Stephen quietly said as he listened to Rin.

"I'm so tired. I just want to run away forever." Suddenly, tears started streaming down from her eyes. They were tears of anger and misery. All the frustrations built up in her chest were all pouring down.

"If only I knew this would happen I should've just let him kill me!"

At that moment, a small circle of void formed in front of her that got bigger and bigger. It was the same one as before. The black hole.

Stephen was surprised by the sudden magic Rin was able to do. For the whole 9 months they've been together, this was the only time he saw her producing magic out of her own hands. But that's not the only thing that caught his attention. She was summoning something that no one else in Kamar-Taj ever did. In all of the books he read, there was nothing stated in where a void could be summoned.

As the circle grew bigger, the strength of it grew as well. Stephen felt like the void was sucking air into it. Then he realized that it was a black hole Rin was making.

"Rin, stop this!" Stephen told Rin but she didn't seem to hear him.

Stephen realized he had to take matters into his own hands. With the help of his cloak, he flew in the air and started circling with his hands to create a spell to stop her. He sent an electric shock, not fatal, but can hurt enough to make her stop.

Rin raised her arms to protect herself after seeing the magic being charged at her. She braced for the pain but it never came. She looked up and saw a shield-like bubble protecting her.

Stephen then created a stronger spell and blasted it towards Rin. The spell went right through the shield, almost like it devoured it. Rin was able to block Stephen's attack but barely. His spell rapidly drained her energy. Soon after the shield devoured the whole thing, Rin collapsed on the floor and everything once again faded to black.
