"Jamie, tell me. What happened to you? You can't possibly come here because your mother is gone, right? You must have another reason. Is it because of this child's father?"
Jamie couldn't answer because her hands were shaking as if she had been brought back to the night when Lawrence touched her and forced her―she cried, lowered her head as she couldn't look straight at Loraine's.
Loraine felt frustrated because Jamie didn't tell her anything, and she finally sat on the floor with the girl and hugged her while patting Jamie's back gently.
"It's my fault. I wasn't with you when you needed me; I'm sorry. I should have taken you away, too, and we should get out of my house together. It's my fault."
Jamie shook her head upon hearing her friend blaming herself. She came here wasn't because she wished to see Loraine feel guilty. But her hands trembled so much that she couldn't move a muscle.
