Chapter 18

“No. You decide if you want to do something about it." He smiles at me in a sad way. "There's no reason for both of us to be hungry." Darren doesn't even wait a second. "Before you ask; it's not just about you. Grace, I don't want him to be by himself. From now on, he won't take crap from me, but he will from you."

I whisper, "That's not fair."

The world isn't fair. Darren gives the door a quick look. "You ought to—"

“No.”

“No?”

I'm not sure. "He was very clear about what he thought about what we had to offer. I won't crawl back to him tonight for the second time." I stand on my toes and give my husband a light kiss on the lips. "Let's turn in. We'll continue talking in the morning."

As dawn breaks, there are no clouds to be seen in the sky. It's stunning, yet the weight of what it represents makes my chest hurt.

Our vacation has come to an end.

The same may be said of our Holiday fling with Milo.
