“I know what I said.” I deliver a mirthless grin. “You should know better than anybody things uttered in the heat of the moment are to heighten the pleasure. I want you. I’m never going to not desire you. But you just want to fuck me, and he’s my husband. He isn’t scared to confess that he loves me.”

His brows pull together. “That’s not fair.”

“I know.” My throat feels constricted. “Just… Just think about it, okay? Can you guarantee me that?”

He nods slowly. “I wish I could claim I’m going to worry about anything else for the foreseeable future.”

On the journey back to New York, Darren and I hardly said a word with one other. The quiet isn't particularly unsettling, but it is an indication that things are shifting in some way. Things that I am adamantly opposed to changing in any way. I am able to hold it together until we have returned to our flat before I completely explode. "Are you mad?"
