As my vision blurred more and more. I was aware in those moments 'I am going to die', strangely enough I was not sad or wanted to cry for help. Not that one would come anyway.
'Hahahahaaa so damn funny If I think about it now.' thought Neo.
...
I don't know how long I was in this state, but it felt like half an eternity. Like being in the middle of a loud and fast workday while you haven't slept in three days. Everything feels so fast around you, while you yourself are getting slower and slower.
Well, my strange experience was than interupt by one of the undead in the store. With a loud scream and sounding something like "Arhaa" and "Rhaa" or so, he moved directly towards me.
...
So there I am, lying in my own blood, not bothering anyone and this piece of sh*t crawls from god knows where towards me. How rude and uncivilistic to disturb a dying man.
Jokes aside ... death is right behind me, it's never been this close to me before. I mean sure I've been wounded on the battlefield before and even almost lost a leg once, but that was something completely different.
I've never felt such fear of death, such unbelievable fear, and my heart was getting faster and faster with every meter that thing behind me was getting closer.
It became louder and louder...
"Arh"
"Araha!"
"ARAGAHHHA!!!"
'No, NO! I can't die here!!! not here, not today. I have to revenge my father. I must kill these murderers MYSELF... and my mother .... she needs me!'
'I can't die here. Quick I need a weapon' Neo thought.
And then I saw it. Not so far away from me still lies one of the bodyguards who were killed by the fast undead at the beginning. I turned around, with a lot of effort and crawled towards the corpse, closely followed by the undead behind me.
So, there I was, bleeding with a knife in my back and a wound on my neck closed with scraps of cloth, crawling between two shelves towards the corpse in front of me, with the undead getting closer and closer behind me. I didn't dare turn around, especially since I think as far as I do, I'll be mauled by the bastard instantly.
I don't know if there are gods and until today, I never believed in one. But damn it, only he would know how I made it to the corpse. I quickly searched and found his military knife next to him on the floor. I grabbed it with my right arm and immediately stabbed behind me. There I saw it, the undead was right at my back and was about to bite. If I had only taken a second longer, I would probably be dead now.
"Sigh"
At that moment I wanted nothing more than to sleep. Every movement was so exhaustingt, but I knew that if I did that, I would not wake up again.
Therefore, I decided to examine the wound on my back. Androld's knife was fortunately still in me, that was probably the only reason I am still alive, otherwise I would have bled to death long ago.
After the examination of my wound was settled, I tried to stand up with the help of a shelf next to me. After some time, I stood again, my clothes soaked with blood, I then examined the situation of the store.
The lights were on and I could, therefore, see quite well. In total, I found three more undead inside the store, fortunately the undead were already eating. Furthermore, the doors of the store were closed but unfortunately not barricaded. The store had a few windows, but the shutters were closed and none Undead should come through there for now.
The most important thing now is to use as little energy as possible and find medicine against my wounds. So, I should not get into a fight again.
I can maybe still kill one undead, but more certainly means game over. So, I looked for medicine and made as little noise as possible. I was lucky, the undead were already eating and none came to me.
After a time searching, I found something. Behind the cash register there was a shelf with medicine, but there is also an undead. Considering my wound, I have no other choice I need these drugs! So, I limped with much effort to the undead. This time I was not so lucky, because he noticed me, stood up and moved towards me.
I decided to act first and kill him quickly, dodging his attack somehow and stabbing his head with the knife in my right hand. Unfortunately, I didn't get deep enough to kill him but he fell to the ground with the knife still in his head.
I reacted quickly and stomped his head with my right foot. More and more blood and brain fluid came out of his skull with every stomp until I heard a loud noise …
… his skull had cracked open.
After I killed the undead and pulled my knife out of his head, I made my way back to the cash register and the medicines there.
I fumbled in the closet with bloody hands for medicine to treat internal bleeding, something for the pain, and antibiotics.
I found two drugs. One that can treat internal bleeding with nanobots and antibiotics against bacteria. Unfortunately, there were no Painkillers there. I found a door behind the cash register which had some stuff in it and a staircase upwards. I decided to go upstairs to find a place to treat my wounds and recover some energy.
I found a few doors on the different floors but they were all locked and even after I called, no one opened the door. I even heard a few undead from one. On another floor I found a man half eaten with horror marked on his face and tears running down his eyes.
I quickly decided to move on and hoped to quickly find a safe place where I could recover.
And I was lucky. I found an open apartment on the top floor and went in, but in the apartment, I met 2 dead bodies, both children who were eaten by 2 other undead probably their parents. The children looked both to be around 7 to 9 years old. Even I, as a former soldier, couldn't watch this scene for long. I felt like I would vomit any moment and in the end only with a lot of effort I could stop myself from doing so. I just wanted to turn around and leave.
However, as I turned my head around the dead person that I saw on the lower floors that was half eaten stood at the door, walking slowly towards me. Thanks to my great luck, the other two undead also noticed me and stopped eating their children and also came towards me.
Now it was too late to leave the apartment and I hobbled as fast as I could to the first available room. Somehow, I was faster than all of the Undead and could slip into the room.
Afterwards, I closed the door behind me and locked it with the key that was on it. I didn't stop than as I still felt insecure. I barricaded the door with a small closet standing next to it and a bed.
The undead knocked and clawed at the door, trying to get in. But so far the door has kept the undead out.
…
Tired, wounded and famished, I lay down on the cold ground and took the medicine I found downstairs. And hoped that they would show effect quickly.
And well, that's all that's happened so far. Pretty crazy right?
So here I am on the ground, questioning the decision I've made over the past five days.
Could I have avoided getting hurt?
Why didn't I just take my mother with me at first and run away with her?
F*ck why did I let her marry that asshole in the beginning!
Well regret brings me nothing at the moment. My mistake from the start was my way of thinking, I trusted too many people. I trusted Androld with my mother, the woman my father said to protect.
Hell, I even planned to trust complete strangers with my life and my mother's. How stupid was I?
My whole plan to put my father's killers on evidence and bring him to justice now seems so naive and stupid.
...
Did I really think the public would just believe me like that? That the killers can't act differently, for example, bad press and denials against me or invent false evidence against me?
...
Naive. In this world you can't trust anyone but yourself. Especially after all these apocalyptic events that took place.
…
Wow, I had to die to realize how wrong I was in life.
…
…
I'm so tired I can't keep my eyes open anymore. I can feel my hole body turning colder as my thinking gets slower and slower. That's it, that is how death feels … so cold.
…
I can only hope that I make better decisions in another life …
…
… pathetic.
