[DAY 54]
After the group left Abeus, they decided to head further north towards a near city which Blythe knows her way around a bit.
While it would be easier and faster if they used a vehicle instead of walking there, it would also draw unwanted attention to them. Not only would the Undead be attracted by the noise of the vehicle but also looters and thieves who maybe have an advantage against the group as they have more handguns and ammunition.
Furthermore, the group firstly would also need to find a working car with enough fuel.
In Abeus, where the plasma attack took place, all the circuit boards and technology of pretty much every devices were destroyed. The probability of finding a working car that is not under buried under a lot of debris is therefore very low and would take them a lot of tim, whcih they don't have, as the food and water supplies are getting fewer and fewer.
Accordingly the group, with the new armament and few supplies, set out towards the nearest town.
...
On the way towards the town, the group confronted some Undead that roamed here and there sporadically.
What was a bit strange was that Ninette was killing the Undead slower than usual.
Usually a well-aimed stab in the head is enough and the Undead should die, as long as he is not a mutated variant.
But Ninette did not kill the Undead immediately, but first stabbed them several times in the legs or chest, paralyzing them. Then she would slowly and very bloodily cut open the Undead and only kill them after a few minutes.
But so far her behavior hasn't caused any major problems, so everyone except Meram didn't really care.
That someone hates the Undead, with everything that has happened so far, is by no means strange, but very understandable. Meram, on the other hand, was worried about Ninette's violent tendencies because he had never seen her like this before.
He knows her as little Ninette, who grew up with him and Donatien. They would talk together about their dreams and wishes for the future. Ninette has always been fascinated by all the children's stories that she was read to in the village and always wanted to experience and feel these stories herself. She was fascinated by the beauty but also the excitement of the theater, which is why she mainly decided to come with the two boys and experience the world out here. That's why the Ninette that Meram sees in front of him now seems so alien to him. In addition, Meram sees the danger that Ninettte will lose herself in fights in the future.
But for now, Meram decided not to talk to Ninette about it, just to keep an eye on her and to intervene if it gets too bad.
After some time, the group found a well in the countryside that had not yet dried up and appeared to be clean.
So they decided to have a drink and rest there, and then headed to the nearby town, refreshed but still hungry.
...
After walking for a few more kilometers the group finally reached the next city.
However, the picture of the city was basically like the one in Abeus before the Orbital Bombardment took place.
The buildings were partially set on fire and some had already collapsed on themselves, blocking passageways or destroying other buildings.
Some Undead Hordes could be seen roming on the many streets which has wrecked cars and debris everywhere. The Undead were eating every living thing they could hear and see, small animals and even insects were all eaten by them.
After observing for some time, the group could still find no sign of other survivors and the city seemed dead at first glance.
However, instead of entering the city blindly, the group decided to position themselves on a hill a little further away and check the situation in the city for some time.
"Zula has significantly fewer inhabitants than Abeus and is correspondingly smaller, but nonetheless that there are no survivors here is very unlikely. They can't all be dead, can they?" asked little Blythe as she took a closer look at the town through her binoculars.
"Uncertain, the population may have been badly hit. If there weren't the police and military outposts in Abeus, then there would certainly have been far fewer survivors there too. I mean the entire southern district, the slum district, was completely taken over by the Undead, because they simply didn't have enough police officers with weapons to protect the people in the beginning of the apocalypse. Also, I'm not so sure if the city is really as lifeless as it seems." Elly said afterwards as she also looked at the city through her binoculars.
One could find traces of survivors here and there inside the city. Sometimes it was a barricaded building or a road blockade with cars, but all survivor positions looked deserted and were already overrun by the Undead.
'What just happened here? Did the Undead overrun the survivor bases here and left no one behind, or is there more to it?' Elly thought as she looked around with the her binoculars.
"Can you pass me the binoculars for a moment, Blythe? I want to check something." said Meram suddenly as he looked at little Blythe.
"Ah-mmh" said little Blythe as she nodded and handed her binoculars to Meram who then looked through them.
Meram then took a closer look at a small supermarket at the end of a street.
Strangely, the store still had all the shelves full of supplies, and the supplies were clearly visible through the large storefront windows for anyone who survived to see.
Therefore, Meram wondered why no one had already looted the store. They're not going to hold back just because the stuff in the store doesn't belong to them, are they?
As if a higher power wanted to answer Meram's questions, a shady figure suddenly made its way from an adjacent building in the direction of the small supermarket.
The shadow quickly ran across the street and hit some Undead to the right and left in front of it, but never stopped running meanwhile and kept running in the direction of the supermarket.
Eventually, the shadow arrived at the supermarket, but when it tried to enter the small shop, something unexpected happened.
Suddenly, searchlights came on from adjacent rooftops and shone down on the shadowy figure, which turns out to be a young man, believed to be no more than 18 years old.
The boy also seemed startled by the searchlights and therefore did not notice that a person snuck up behind him and strangled him unconscious with his arm.
The attacker then put a pair of handcuffs on the boy and laid him on the ground.
At that moment, more men, with different masks on their heads, gradually came out of the adjacent buildings.
One of the men came from the direction of the building where the unconscious boy came from and carried a little girl in his arms along with an older woman and ran towards the others.
the group started laughing when they saw the two women and began to undress the two against their will.
They tore the clothes which the two woman were wearing and pushed the two to the ground.
After that, they began abusing and raping the two women publicly and completely open for everyone too see.
"What are those bastards doing! Damn MONSTERS!!!" said Ninette, watching all of this through a dismounted target sight that she still had.
"Those damn monsters, I want to cut off their c*cks and stuff them in their mouths. Damn Beasts let them choke on their own thing!" Ninette cursed while getting louder and louder.
"Calm down Ninette, we can't afford to attack the people there. Don't forget, we basically don't have any weapons or ammunition, we'd be fodder for the guys with their assault rifles." said Elly as she tried to calm Ninette.
"What? How can you stay so calm? Don't you give a damn about what's happening here? Are you so Heartless?" asked Ninette as she looked at Elly.
However, Elly didn't answer her and only decided to watche the whole scene a little longer.
"F*ck!" said Ninette and then continued to look at the scene near the shop.
The two women were raped by the group of men for a few more minutes, but they all suddenly stopped when a new figure entered the scene.
A Two meter tall muscular man who has a bald head and was currently holding a giant machete in one hand and carrying a bottle of water with the other just entered the street along with two other people on each side.
The bald man walked straight to the unconscious boy who was lying on the floor and kicked him up with the water.
The boy was confused at first and seemed disoriented when he woke up, but when he saw the two women and their torn clothes and the disgusting white stuff on them, he completely lost himself in anger and tried to overpower some of the men near him. In the end, however, the man was still tied and could not attack or do anything at all.
The men therefore quickly overpowered the boy and knelt him down next to the two women so he could see everything. While two people held the boy, the bold man started to rape the two women who were lying on the floor.
He was brutal about it, hitting and slicing them here and there over and over again, making sure the cries for help from the two woman were heard all the way down the street and even to the group hiding on top of the hill.
The young man was forced to watch the whole thing and only after more than half an hour was it all over.
Then the man with the bold head cut the throat of the young man open. The boy completely looked desperate and empty inside, and was murdered in front of the two women and his blood spurted all over them.
Afterwards, both women seemed to have lost their minds and screamed non-stop.
The men therefore quickly knocked the two women unconscious and then dragged them away.
Meanwhile, the bald man began to cut off the young man's corpse piece by piece and laid it out on the ground.
Arms, legs, organs and even the bones, he sorted everything neatly on the street and then took some parts of the body with him.
He left the others there and then walked away with the rest of his men who had been standing guard in the meantime.
Shortly thereafter, the Undead stormed the area and pounced on the remains of the young man on the street.
...
"Monsters! JUST MONSTERS" Ninette said as she watched everything happening.
"Disgusting, despicable monsters for whom even death would be too easy. Such people should be tortured and killed over a long time." Meram added as he watched the scene with a disgusted look.
"Enough! I'm going down there now and slaughter them all!" said Ninette suddenly as she got up.
Meram just nodded and got up as well and followed her a few steps.
But the two were stopped by Elly, who suddenly stood in front of them.
"I feel the same way as you both do, so don't get me wrong with what I am about to say." said Elly as she stood in front of them.
"We can't fight the group now. We don't have enough weapons or ammunition and even if we had them, there are only four of us. A child, a crippled woman and two with internal injuries. We alone could never be enough to kill the group of rapists and murderers down there." Elly explained.
"We are no longer in a time of morality and ethics, but in a time of madness. If we face every calamity and every injustice we come along, without first gathering all our strength, we will just die pointlessly. We must not make decisions out of whim or emotions we feel, but out of reason." Elly explained afterwards.
"But in the end it's up to you what you do, just be sure that I won't go with you to your apparent death. No, I won't make the same mistakes as in the past, so the choice is yours." said Elly and then made room for the two.
However, Ninette quickly made up her mind after Elly's speech ended. She is seething with anger and can no longer hold herself back any longer, she wants to make the murderers and rapists pay for what they have done and therefore took a few steps forward.
However, she was quickly stopped by Meram, who grabbed her arm and pulled her back.
"Don't go Ninette. That won't change anything, Elly is right, we'll just die if we attack them." Meram said as he grabbed Ninette's arm.
After that, Ninette just looked at Meram for a while and said nothing.
"Just die? The Meram I know wouldn't have said such a thing. My Meram would have thought of a way how we could defeat the murderers down there despite everything. My Meram would have stood by my side and supported me instead of..." said Ninette , when she was interrupted by Meram.
"Instead of what? Letting you walk to your certain death? Ninette, let's be frank about it, we've both changed. Before everything, I probably would have agreed with you, because I really want to see those bastards dead down there, but now I'm not willing to do this, not if the price is to lose someone else close to me... NO, to lose you!" explained Meram as he shook his head.
"You only want to kill these guys because you've been wanting a fight all along. You don't want to kill the monsters down there for what they did or are, you just want to release all your anger and please yourself by killing them." said Meram afterwards.
"But no matter how many you kill, no matter how brutally you do it, it won't bring Donatien back and the feeling of anger will only grow. Let's face it, Donatien is dead and nothing can change that. But that doesn't mean you have to follow him to death. Just think what he would say about you if he saw you the way you are right now? Blinded by anger, you march to your certain death without thinking about what really matters. Our family, the village and our parents there. All of them need us, how else are they supposed to survive in this insane world?" explained Meram.
"Don't think with the same anger that killed Donatien. The monster, Neo, that is responsible for all of our suffering has already been destroyed by the bombing together with the entire city. There is no more reason for hatred and letting it out towards these murderers won't make you feel any better." Meram added as he looked into Ninette's eyes.
"So please, please just this once, even if you end up hating and loathing me. Please listen to me one last time and don't go there." Meram appealed at the end as he slowly let go of Ninette.
Ninette looked at Meram for a while and only after a few minutes she nodded slightly and then walked back to the others together with Meram.
In the end, therefore, the group decided not to enter the city at the risk of running to meet the murderers and rapists.
Therefore, they had no choice but to walk to the next town, which is further away.
The few supplies should last for a few days if they ration it well and they still have enough water with them, thanks to the well. Therefore, only food should remain a problem for now.
...
[DAY 56]
In the end, the group needed two whole days and reached the next town with some difficulty.
Meanwhile, the fight against the Undead on the paths has become more and more difficult, especially since the four are slowly starving.
However they were lucky and found a small car at a old gas station on the way to the next city. If they hadn't found a it, they probably wouldn't have made it to there destination. But unfortunately for them, most of the food in the gas station was already expired and spoiled.
However at the end they still made it to the city which at first glance made the same impression as the cities they have gone through before, but appearances are deceptive, because from afar countless shots could be heard inside the city and in the next moment a huge skyscraper inside of the city suddenly exploded and collapsed.
A huge black mist and tons of debris rained down upon the streets, killing every Undead and Survivor there in the process.
Meanwhile, you could see and hear the muzzle flash of the fired bullets flying around like little lights all over the city.
It was obvious that the city turned into a huge open war zone.
"What the hell is going on here? Why are we in a war zone all of a sudden?" said little Blythe suddenly as she looked horrified at the huge battlefield of what was once a city.
