MIND GAMES

 He sat in the quiet of his room, the soft glow of her phone the only source of light. Yet, despite the anticipation buzzing within him, the screen remained blank, devoid of any new messages. The ache in his chest grew with each passing minute, a silent reminder of the emptiness that had settled over his life since they last spoke.

  He couldn't understand why they had chosen silence over honesty, why they couldn't muster the courage to simply say what they were feeling. Was it too much to ask for a shred of closure, a final acknowledgment of what once was? The unanswered questions swirled in his mind, tormenting him with their relentless persistence.
