My Soldiers

"Well now that i have some soldiers you're going to help me test a few things, just nod and shake your head for yes and no" I say as i look upon my 6 soldiers, they might not be powerful right now but i will make sure they grow. I could already sense more power in my body and i even got 2 free stat points from the level-up.

'First of all can you guys hear me now?' Luckily for me they all nod their heads, with this i can coordinate with them without revealing our positions. These guys might just be the best ambush squad i could ask for, 2 wolves and 4 goblins with them i could in theory make the goblins ride the wolves and act as cavalry.

"Well i'll just talk to you this way for now, kinda lonely to not have anyone to talk to. Now do you need equipment or do you already have them?" At that i observe one of the goblins walking over to a spear and picking it up, when he touched it shadows started moving across it's surface until the entire spear was covered. Then the goblin absorbed the spear into itself making it disappear, and then making it reappear in his hand the next moment.

"Oh sweet that's really cool, now i'm sorry but i have to know if you disappear when you receive fatal damage." I felt really bad to do this to my subordinates but i had to know, i was about to test it myself but the spear goblin sudden raised his hand signaling me to stop. Curiously i stod still and watched as he approached the lvl 1 goblin and pierced his head with the spear. It's head was reformed not even 5 seconds afterwards and i could see my MP going down by a single point.

Well now i know my soldiers are basically immortal as long as i have mana, or is it magic points? Doesn't really matter they're basically the same thing anyway, i'll have to wait until i find some people before i find out more about this world.

"Well it's going to be hard to name all of you, and i don't want to call you goblin 1, 2 and so forth so you with the spear" Saying that the Gobling approaches me, seeming eager to know what i was going to say. I swear i could even see a faint smile under the shadows emanating from it's body.

"I'll call you Gobi from now on, you'll be in charge of all the goblins from now on" I felt a little shameless openly stealing names from an anime i watched in the past, but who's going to judge me here in this world, it's not like there are other reincarnators here right?

"Well that's certainly unexpected" In front of me i could see the shadows surrounding Gobi morph and cover it completely, once the shadows returned to their "normal" state i could see the changes. Gobi emerged as the goblin equivelant of Captain America, no longer the scrawny weak goblin but now buffed out with proper muscles. It also grew in height now reaching me to my stomach. I felt an odd sensation from my left and when i turned i could see the other goblins looking at Gobi with stars in their eyes, i guess a super soldier transformation is cool no matter what race you are.

"Well now that we've sorted the gobling i guess i should pick a commander among you wolves aswell" I turn towards the 2 wolves and could see their tail wagging leaving only afterimages, but which one should i choose as commander. They seem intelligent enough so i guess i'll just ask.

"Do you two have any preferances of who should be the wolf commander?" Once they comprehended the meaning behind my words i could see one of them stepping forward and sitting down in front of me with an expectant look. This just made it a lot easier, it seems the other one wants this as well.

"Alright since you're going to be the top dog i have the perfect name" I say with a smile knowing that i've always wanted to raise my own wolf to the level worthy of this name, and looking at this one i can tell he's going to be a beast later on.

"I'll name you Fenris, after the wolf that devoured a god"

The same process as with Gobi starts happening to Fenris only the shadows this time are much larger, once it finished Fenris literally doubled in size now looking more like a horse than a wolf considering the size. But the weirdest thing has got to be the look in the other wolfs eyes, are thos f'cking hearts in it's pupils? Hold on now that you mention it what sex are my soldiers?

'Well personally i'm glad that the basics like bite and swipe don't show up as skills, that woud've made it a real hassle to read. Guess i'll just check Gobi aswell'

"Gobi are all goblins males? i just have to ask since there isn't a single female here" To this Gobi nods, well i'm not gonna ask any more questions down that path. If it's anything like that manga i don't think i want to know.

"Well i've rested enough now so let's keep moving we'll just continue moving the same direction i started walking since the river ended here, now Fenris i want you and the other wolf to scout out on my sides, preferably between 15 and 20 meters out while the goblins stay with me. Let me know if you notice any movement, but don't engage in anything other than self-defence until i give the command."

Both the Fenris and Gobi nods to this and starts mobilizing the other and we start moving. I will admit it feels a lot better to have 6 "companions" near me at all times, i'll have to try and increase our numbers while we are in the forest and level up both me and the others as much as possible. I also need to find out if i get the EXP from the kills of my subordinates.

After about an hour of walking we came across another river which i decided we should follow, i mean come on who wouldn't? Last time i got 6 soldier out of it, but now with them i can reap even more benefits from a battle. That's atleast what i thought but now it's starting to get dark and i have no shelter, and i didn't take any meat from the wolves since i felt bad for Fenris. Oh wait i have Fenris he can probably hunt a feast while i make shelter. Now we just have to find a suitable place to seek shelter.

2 hours later

"Damn, how am i supposed to get down there" Standing on the edge off a cliff i look towards the river that ended up becoming a waterfall, i'm not that good at guessing height but i'd assume this is atleast a 10m drop. Down the cliff one could see the bottom stretching out, turns out I was on a mountain or rather a plateau and now i somehow have to get down from here. Atleast there isn't only bad news considering i can see faint amounts of smok coming from a forest further down the river, but it's far enough that i won't make that distance before nightfall.

"Anyone of you wouldn't happen to have a good idea on how to get down there would you?" I turn to my party only to see all 6 of them tilt their heads in confusion, i guess their intelligence isn't all that as of now, probably needs som more levels. Right now they are probably as lost as i am.

'Guess i just have to walk along the edge til i find somewhere we can climb down, now that i think about it how come we didn't meet any other creatures when we have been walking for so long.'

*growl*

'I just had to jinx it didn't i?' Looking towards the sound i see faint movement among the trees, not sure what it is but i'm pretty sure it's not alone or else it would have avoided us. I look towards the direction of Fenris only to see him running over with 3 more wolves behind him. 'Well shit, here we go again i guess'

I send out a quick mental command to all my soldiers to gather on me, right now we need to work together or else i might die and then all of them would disappear. We huddle up and i command the goblins to place themselves with spears behind dagger users, not the most optimal but we don't have the people or the shields to do anything better. Fenris comes running towards us and i tell him to lure them towards us and bait them close to the dagger users. 'Sorry Fenris you'll have to be the tank for now'

With all our attention on the incoming wolves we prepare for the battle, when Fenris reaches our frontline he abruplty turns startling the chasing wolves before he lunges at the closest one. He manages to grab it's neck with his jaw and throw it towards me and the goblins.

*thud*

Immediatly after the wolf hits the ground in front of us the two spear users thrust their spears piercing the poor wolf, after that they retreat so i and the dagger goblins can continue the battle while they guard our flank. The wolf quickly dies under our onslaught, before i feel the hair on my neck rise and a shiver run down my spine.

"Arise" The bad feeling i had never disappeared, even when the first wolf was slain. I have a really bad feeling about this and that means i need more allies.

[Shadow Soldier: Wolf lvl 2 aquired]

The new wolf immediately joins the fight alongside Fenris, now that i think about it where did the other wolf go? It should have been back already.

'What happened?'

'Damn it the other one is fighting alone, that's why it didn't arrive here yet, come back through the shadows we'll deal with this together.' The wolf listened to my command and shortly after it arrived in front of me, then it turned and began snarling at the forest ahead. Then the bad feeling got even worse.

'Why did i have to jinx it?' We haven't even finished fighting the previous group of wolves since they are more wary of getting grabbed by Fenris. 'Everyone on the wolves now! I have enough mana but we can't fight on two sides at the same time'

All my soldiers and me included swarm the two wolves by surrounding them and finishing them off with the daggers. 'Come one, come on, just die already i need your help after this'

"Ok now we have to deal with the threat in the forest" As i said that and turned i could feel my entire body stiffened upon looking into the forest, what met my gaze was first one pair of eyes, then two, and suddenly there i saw 12 pair of eyes and growls sounding like a quire. But that was not what frightened me so, no the source of that would have to be the significantly larger eyes shining above the rest.

'What in the seven hells is that thing, Inspect' As i finished that command i felt even more fear, i thought it would be at most two levels higher than me. That atleast would be doable for us, this on the other hand, now this is just not fair.

'How the f*ck am i supposed to handle this, i'm only lvl 3 for god's sake. Come on Damien, think, there has to be a way out of this mess. As i was lost in my thoughts the direwolf and his pack gradually crept closer to us and herding us towards the edge of the cliff. 'Do i seriously have to jump down, i don't even know if i can survive the drop. As i was contemplating my choices Fenris jumped into action with the other wolves and attempted to intimidate the enemy pack. To no awail as the direwolf just snorted and continued walking closer to us.

'Dammit why am i so bad at coming up with plans, alright time to gamble with our lives fellas' I sent out the mental message to my party and began getting myself ready for what i hope is my only suicidal plan. 'Fenris get you and your team ready' Fenris and his wolves turned back into shadows and moved along the shadows of the enemy pack until they reached the direwolf's shadow, now it's all up to luck if this works or not.

"Hey you little sh*tstain, you really going to stand behind your back like a little b*tch chihuahua or are you going to fight properly alpha against alpha?" I stand there pointing my blade at the direwolf while putting on a grin to try and taunt him into attacking me. In case that wasen't clear i made the goblins create a straight path in front of me.

'Oh f*ck this might've been a bad idea, Goblins come back quick' Just as the Goblins return to my shadow i can see the direwolf's eye turn blood red and start gnashing it's teeth as it stares me down with utter rage. Even the other wolves cower in fear of this guy right now, well atleast this part of the plan went properly.

'If this doesn't work out i can atleast say i went out like a badass' I chuckled slightly thinking it was a shame no one could see me right now. The direwolf started rushing at me, as he approached i suddenly got ideas for how to get down the cliff.

'Why didn't i just have one of the goblins jump down the waterfall and check if it consumed my MP, or attempt to make a rope atleast, but noooo i just had to travel further in and encounter this absolute monster. Now i'm literally betting my life on the fact that my luck stat can help me'

The direwolf lunges at me and i feel like the world is moving in slow-motion, i guess since i chose to remove my memories i don't get any flashbacks but atleast i get a little time to contemplate my end. As the direwolf approached 5m away from me i gave the command to Fenris, 'Do it now, hopefully we'll survive this'.

At the same time Gobi materializes in front of me, grabbing my collar and pushing me downwards taking my place as the direwolf's massive mouth devours half his body. I quickly snap out of it and stab my dagger with all my might towards the beast, while i see Fenris and his squad appear behind it and lunge at it aswell. My dagger pierced it's underside and got stuck when the direwolf tensed it's muscles, i grab on with all my might knowing this is a do or die situation. Fenris and his pack charged into the direwolf pushing with all their might, making it lose it's footing and tumbling over the edge.

What about me you might ask, well i'm still hanging on it's underside acting as a conduit for my gobling to materialize and stab the beast as many times as possible before we hit the ground. While falling i suddenly had a bad feeling again and quickly decided to spend all my 4 free stat points in luck, gotta get one more hit before we hit the ground. Feels like we've been falling for a couple of minutes now, with my luck up to 15 i'm gambling on a critical hit. One of my gobling materialize and puts a dagger in my hand, without wasting any more precious second i stab it into its belly praying for a critical hit.

[Critical hit! Direwolf is now temporarily paralyzed]

'no, no, no, no, no i meant critcal damage not a status effect. I'm so f*cking dead'

*Boom*
