Chapter 55: Not Your Fault

The car was so silent that they could count each other's breath as they rode home. The city lights were reflected on every surface and face in the vehicle, but no one seemed to bat an eye at them. It was almost as if they were too deep in thought, in memory, to notice the changing of scenes.

The silence of the car followed them all into the house. Griffin excused himself with a nod, and Natalie didn't even look at them as she went up to her own room.

Nyrissa didn't know where to go or even what to do. Instead, she just stood in the entryway, looking up at the stairs towards her room.

The evening had been a nightmare, worse than she would have thought it could have gone. Ryan had been right; they never should have gone. Now, not only had Ryan lost his company, but he had lost the last of his family.
