Control Freak, Really

"No Mason, please don't do this. I swear I'll do anything you want, I'll never go to a single party again I promise" Lisa begged her brother with a shaky voice

"This is for your own good Lisa, you can keep making stupid decisions, not while I'm responsible for you"

"Are you trying to ruin my life? If you do this, my life will literally be over. You can't do this to me"

"I'm trying to keep you from ruining your own life Lisa, you'll thank me when you're older" Mason said in a voice that made it clear that there would be no more arguments.

"I hate you so much, you're the worst brother in the world" Lisa screamed at Mason as she ran out of the living room in tears. Mason had just introduced the lady who will be homeschooling Lisa to the girl and everyone in the house. Evans didn't think his friend was serious when he had first said he was pulling Lisa out of high school for what he said was reckless and irresponsible behaviour, he had assumed that it was a threat just like he had threatened to cut Lisa's allowance and he had threatened to take away her cellphone. Ever since Mason became his sister's legal guardian, he had taken the task with so much seriousness, putting lots of rules in place and many times Lisa had run to him to talk to Mason on her behalf which of course Evans was always glad to do, Mason wasn't like Lisa and most times didn't understand what his sister wanted, he felt responsible for every of her decision and blamed himself for every of her mistakes. Lisa wasn't a bad or rebellious girl naturally, she was extroverted and loved going out but she was also smart enough not to make dumb decisions like many high schoolers. Evans didn't think it was fair to withdraw her from school, with a personality like Lisa's, it would be like being imprisoned and he didn't blame the girl for her reaction

The employee retreated silently as the situation became awkward, many of them shared surprised glances as they hurried back to their various duties.

He watched in silence as Mason apologized to the serious looking private tutor and saw her out the door.

"Lisa was so rude to the poor woman, I'm going to have a talk with her about her attitude" Mason said as he came back in and sat opposite Evans

"I didn't think you were serious about this homeschooling thing Mason, don't you think it's a little extreme?" He said in disbelief. Mason was stunned, he didn't think his best friend of all people would criticize his decision.

"What are you talking about man? I'm doing what any reasonable adult will do, I'm not going to let my sister run wild when I can do something about it"

"You're being such a control freak. Lisa is a teenager wanting to do things people her age do, what's so wrong about that" Evans said blocking Mason as he tried to walk past him

"She went to a freaking party, on a school night and came back home at 11am which is 5 hours past her curfew. Do you know what dangers she could have put herself in?!" Mason yelled at Evans, he clenched his fists and turned the opposite way

"So she did something a little out of line. Big deal, kids do worse, she came home in a cab not in a car driven by a drunk teen or walk home herself. At least she's not drinking or doing drugs, she doesn't even have a boyfriend and I'm pretty sure you're the reason behind that"

"Yeah she's not doing all that because I'm not letting her and I'm going to make sure she never does any of those stupid stuff"

Evans was starting to get angry, Mason was acting like he was never a teenager, sure his friend was always a goody two shoes but that didn't mean that he never went through a phase where all he wanted was to have fun and fit in.

"You're taking it too far dude. If you want to punish her, ground her or something. Don't cage her in here, what about her friends? Do you want her to die of loneliness? You're going to make her miss all the things you enjoyed in high school, field trips and dances, lots of memories she could make with her friends are all going to remain a thing of imagination because of you" He said angrily

"You mean the same friends that convinced her it was a good idea to sneak out and party till after curfew? If she feels lonely she'll watch a movie or hang out with the people she live with. She doesn't need a dance to be successful Evans and if there's any field trips worth taking then I'll take her myself"

"That's ridiculous, you're acting crazy. You can shelter Lisa her entire life. She's going to be an adult at some point, will you still try to be in charge of her life then"

"When Lisa has proven to be an adult capable of making rational decisions then she'll make her own decisions. Now out of my way" Mason said coldly and walked out on Evans.

Lisa didn't talk to her brother for a week after the incident and things were tense between him and Mason for a while, he avoided mentioning anything that had to do with Lisa until things eventually settled on its own between them. Although Mason didn't put Lisa back in a regular school, he did relax a bit with his rules, allowing Lisa to go out with friends and all. He and Lisa had thought that was his way of apologizing for the entire thing and that he was trying to let Lisa be a bit more independent until now. Evans wondered how long he and Mason would disagree over Bryan Holding "Probably as long as the guy works for him" he said to himself sighing sadly
