Emily and Ariana said their goodbyes to Leila when they arrived at Ariana's front door. "We'll see at school tomorrow. You did well today, Anna. I'm proud of you," Leila said and gave her a hug before leaving. Tears sparkled in the redhead's eyes. It had been a long time since she heard Leila address her as Anna.
"Bye," Ariana said as she waved.
The house seemed empty when they entered. Ariana was internally grateful for that. The last thing she wanted was to see her mother's face.
"Why don't you like Leila?" Ariana asked Emily as they climbed the stairs to her room.
"Did I say I didn't like her?" asked Emily.
"Quit avoiding the question and just answer me. Your behavior changes whenever she comes around. You've been acting like this since I came to this city and that was three years ago," Ariana said.
Not being able to avoid the accusation, Emily exhaled heavily. "Fine, you win. Yes, I don't like her. You don't have to worry about the reason."
