CHAPTER 5

Highway.

4:19 PM.

Wee-hoo, wee-hoo, the blue and red lights flashed across the scene.

"What is happening?" is the first thing that went through the minds of some people.

However, certain individuals thought, "hope they don't get me," whereas they sped across the road, crossing red lights and breaking all sorts of traffic signs, trying to get away from the scene.

"We need back up, I repeat, we need backup." A police officer said.

'You've probably added it up by now, a chase? You got that right.'

'West road. West road. I need you to counter the car."

"On it." An officer reported.

. . .

Minister of Food Office.

4:52 PM.

"Reporting live. Police are on a chase with the robber, no, robbers, that stole from the food preservation center. With the already bad cri…" The reporter said. Anthony paused it.

"What is happening?! What is happening?! Ahh!!" Anthony shouted in rage, his face was as red as a tomato as he nearly plucked his hair from his scalp.

"Any minute now, I would receive a call from Martin and that would be the end of my career. I'm finished."

'Brr-brr, brr-brr.' Anthony's phone rang. He turned over. It was the last person that he wanted to call him. Yet the name was plastered across the screen, Martin. Anthony took deep breaths and accepted the call.

"Go-good afternoon sir." Anthony stuttered.

"What is good about this afternoon? Tell me. Come to my office right now." Martin said bluntly then he hung up.

As Anthony took deep, heavy breaths, he gathered enough courage to walk over to Martin's office, knocking on the door.

"Come in." Martin said with a hoarse voice as he coughed lightly.

Immediately Anthony entered the room the fresh scent of cigarette hit his nose. He scrunched up his nose.

"What? Something smells bad?"

"Sir, I believe it is your cigar."

"Hmm. Fool," he said, "only a complete fool would not know that the stench in a room comes from him or her, and worse, the fool blames it on another."

"Sir…"

Martin cut him off immediately, "who gave you the permission to speak? You reek of stupidity Anthony. That's were the smell is coming from. You."

Anthony fell silent.

"What do you have to say? Explain your idiocy this time, Anthony.".

"I have nothing to say. I've failed."

"You have nothing to say? Really?" He rose an eyebrow as he stood up, coughing. Then he added, "do you know how many lives you have destroyed? And because of what? Stupidity."

"Sir, plea…"

He held up an arm and Anthony knew better than to keep talking.

"I'm not done yet." He paused then mimicked Anthony, "I have nothing to say, I have failed."

Martin sat and finally said, "Get out. Your sight disgusts me."

Feeling ashamed, Anthony left the room and found Lucas, right outside the door.

"Painful, huh?

Anthony didn't speak.

"Well, there's a bright side," Anthony looked at him then Lucas added, "you weren't fired." He said, patting him on the shoulder.

"Either way, I'm finished."
