Descent of the Uni-System

I sat in my home, watching the news on my television about the cataclysm that everyone knew was coming soon. I sighed and switched off the depressing screen, there wasn't anything else on anyway, every channel had been taken over by the news now. Getting up, I moved to the kitchen to make myself some food and prepare for another day of waiting for the call. My name is Grehem Wilson, but everyone just calls me Grey. I suppose I could be considered handsome by some standards, I had long black hair reaching my mid back, a long goatee braided and styled. The tan on my skin, from my native American heritage, set me apart from a lot of the other people around me. My eyes are a dark blue green with flecks of gold, a striking contrast to my tan skin and dark hair. The perks of having an Irish bloodline.

I sat down again, a bowl of instant noodles in my hands as I prepared to eat.

I froze when I heard the voice, looking around as I wasn't sure where it came from. But nothing else was in the room with me. Then it hit, the pain. My head exploded in pain as information flooded my mind. Information on so many subjects that I couldn't differentiate between them at first. It took about an hour for the pain to subside but I finally came to once it was over.

"This, this is worse than a cataclysm." I muttered to myself as I sifted through the information I had just received. For lack of a better term, humanity was fucked. We were being thrust into a universe where every being could grow in strength and evolve, every species evolved differently but the goal was always the same. Survive, Evolve, Expand your hold on the universe for resources.

"Status" I called out the command that was included in the information I was given.

I knew there wasn't much to expect but seeing the unknowns made me feel some trepidation as I knew that those would become important soon. I knew, from the information I had received, that the trial period for integration would last six months and after that... Well I just hoped that enough Earthlings were strong enough when the trial period ended. Shaking my head, I rose from my sitting position and left my apartment, moving down to the alley behind my building as I waited for the next notification. It didn't take long for the notification to appear.

[Every being on the planet has successfully received the System. In a few moments dungeon portals will be released upon the planet. Survive, Grow, Evolve. All beings of Earth will have equal opportunity, but remember, with great opportunity comes great danger.]

A few moments after the notification faded I watched as the space in front of me on the alley wall began to ripple and expand. Soon there was a portal in front of me, gently rippling at the edges. I took a deep breath and stepped into the portal, keeping my senses on edge.
