Beginning Gear

I was walking toward the city gates when the attendant that had been helping me finally caught up and stopped me from leaving.

"Ugh, what is it? I told you, I won't be a hero to you people." I sighed heavily and made sure my point was made to the person as they blocked my way forward.

"It's not that, there are some basic things you were supposed to be given. Because of your awakening, you are to be given equipment to help you survive in the dungeon and climb to the next level." The attendant spoke after catching her breath, I finally saw that it was a woman that had been helping me all this time. I sighed again and held out a hand for the items.

"Very well then, where are they?"

"Well, because of your particular circumstances, the items you are entitled to are kept in the treasury so I will have to take you there to claim your items." She said as she pointed back towards the large fortress I had seen from the square. "Luckily, we can be there in a few moments. Please, try not to puke, I just cleaned my robes from the vomit of others trying to awaken." She grasped my hand and we disappeared from the spot. I felt a jolt in my stomach as reality shifted around me for a moment before I was suddenly standing in front of a huge iron door.

"Please, enter with me to claim your items." The attendant spoke as she walked to the doors, "Attendant Trilia and one fully awakened."

As she spoke, the door shuddered and slid aside to allow us passage inside. Upon entering, I sucked in a breath at the sheer amount of treasure I saw in front of me. Crystals of differing grades were separated into mountainous piles throughout the chamber. There were piles of weapons, armor, what appeared to be accessories even. Items of all shapes and sizes, book cases filled with tomes and scrolls and potions. Thousands upon thousands of potions in varying sizes of bottles.

"You may chose one weapon, one armor, five potions, one tome and one scroll. Because you were able to awaken perfectly, you will receive twenty low grade experience crystals. Enough for you to gain four levels."

"What's the catch though?" I asked, my eyes hardened with suspicion.

"You are smart. The catch is that you are required to help the newly awakened reach level five before leaving. If you do not want to have to stay back, you can simply take one weapon, one armor, one scroll and ten crystals."

"I'll take the second option then." I spoke up without a second thought, I wasn't about to sit around and babysit a bunch of people with no skill. Trilia looked shocked for a moment before simply nodding and waving a hand. The rest of the items disappeared from my sight and the ones I could chose from were lined up in front of me. There were many weapons and different types of armor as well as a couple of bookshelves lined with scrolls. I looked through my options, all of the equipment was basic level, of course, and the scrolls all had basic skills attached to them, one for each type of weapon, a few utility skills, and one that looked like it shouldn't have been included. Looking through the weapons, I saw many I was familiar with from games I had played.

I passed over many of the simple weapons, I wanted something unique. Something that would set me apart. There were a few interesting options and I saw one that caught my eye, it was a scythe but it had a twist. The handle was segmented and the blade was able to be shifted into a sword using the handle segments. I picked it up and chose a light metal armor before selecting the scythe arts skill. Trilia again looked surprised but didn't say anything at my choices and handed me a small pouch containing the crystals I was promised.

We left the treasury and I was teleported back to the point she caught up with me and I was allowed to leave the city. Finally allowed to leave, I did so and began my journey into the dungeon with basic gear and one goal. To Grow.
