Chapter one

Two years passed and Kira was still homeless. It was her ninth birthday but it didn't mean anything to her because she lost her mother on that day. She sat by the lake, watching the reflection of the moon in it. Two years ago on this day, she watched her mother die in the most brutal way possible and she couldn't do anything about it. What made her feel even worse was that her mother's sister didn't help her. She said that she didn't want Kira to be a bad influence to her children.

Kira knew she was worried about what people would say, and she saw her aunt's children from inside pointing and talking about her so she just left.

"I miss you mother, I wish you were here. I'm so lonely without you." Her dad responded instead and assured her that he would always be.

Ever since the incident, Kira had been able to communicate with her father, even though he was dead. She didn't mind because without him, she probably would have died. Whenever she was lonely, he always kept her company and he always protected her from harm.

The next day, she ventured to a small part of town where she wasn't really known. She did some odd jobs, begged and even stole, anything to get her food to eat.

One time she tried to steal bread but she got caught, they didn't even mind that she was little, they wanted to cut off her fingers. "Maybe this will teach you a lesson." The huge bald man held her hand as his smaller assistant attempted to cut her.

Kira didn't beg or anything, she just shut her eyes and waited for the pain but instead she heard the man scream and then a loud thud in front of her. When she opened her eyes, she saw the the huge man on the ground and his assistant was shivering with a bloody axe in his hands. She quickly took the bread and ran into the woods for safety.

She went back to Crystal lake or Laura lake, had she had renamed it after her mother. She settled by the edge of the water to eat when she was hit at the back of her head and lost consciousness.

When she opened her eyes, she saw three dirty looking men in front of her, the one who seemed to be their leader was talking about how some nobles would pay greatly for her. She was tied to a tree so she couldn't move and even if she wasn't, she was much too small to fight off men like that.

One of them approached her, eyeing her oddly. "What's your name beauty?" He smiled, revealing a set of crooked yellow teeth. "Don't wanna talk?" The horrible stench from his mouth almost stopped Kira's heart. She wondered if he ever washed his mouth, or even bathed at all because he smelt like something that was rotten.

"Bart!, Quit bothering the girl." The leader, and the only averagely clean one approached her touched her face. " You're a pretty little girl, I'm starting to think that it would be better if I just kept you for myself." He traced her lips with his finger and Kira wanted to throw up. His hands ventured lower, from her chin to her neck then her chest. Kira felt her blood boiling, she shut her eyes tight and begged for her father's help and the last thing she remembered was a sudden wave of energy filling her system.

When she regained consciousness, she was surrounded by the mutilated bodies of the men but she wasn't scared. Instead of running or getting scared, she calmly searched the bodies for anything valuable. She found a knife she could use for self defence, some jewelry, obviously stolen and some coins.

After collecting what she found, she went further into the woods where she knew people didn't reach."Dad?"

"Yes Hela?"

"You killed those men, right?"

"We did it together."

"How?, You used my body?"

"Yes, but you could have done it without my help."

"How?, I'm much too small to cause any damage."

"Don't underestimate yourself Hela. You're stronger than you know."

"Dad, why do you always call me Hela?"

"That's your name. When you were born, I named you Hela."

"Mom never told me that."

"Yes, she didn't like the name so she renamed you Kira."

"I think Hela is a nice name."

"It is. You should rest now."

"Okay dad." She laid down by a tree and was soon fast asleep.

When she turned ten, she saw her father in her dream and he gave her a gift. Kira was happy because she had never gotten a gift from him before, she was grateful to have him around because without him, because she felt like the gods gave her a second chance to experience that fatherly love she never felt.

He gave her the most beautiful necklace she had ever seen, the chain was thin and silver and it had a round silver pendant that shined so bright. It had some ancient writings on it but she didn't understand them because it was in another language.

"Dad, what does this mean?"

"It translates to kolasi, and kolasi means Hell. It's greek."

"Ohh....okay."

"You know I told you I named you Hela."

"Yes."

"Well do you know what it means?"

"No. Are you going to tell me?"

"It translates to the goddess of hell."

"Oh. Why did you name me the goddess of hell?"

"Because that's who you are Hela. You are the powerful girl and you were born to rule over the underworld."

"What do you mean?"

"You'll find out as time goes on, but mark my words little one, you have a great destiny."

"Okay dad."

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••

For the next two years, it was just Kira and her father. He taught her how to survive, how to hunt and how to defend herself from predators.

When Kira turned twelve, her dad appeared to her while she slept, he wished her and blessed her with another gift.

"I have a gift for you Hela."

"Really dad?, What'd you get me this time?"

"Close your eyes."

Kira shut her eyes and held out her hands in anticipation of the gift.

"Open your eyes." When Kira opened her eyes, she couldn't believe what she saw. She was amazed and terrified at the same time, she blinked once, twice, trying to figure out if she was seeing things.

The creature in front of her purred like a puppy and sat at her foot. It was the most beautiful things she had ever seen. It had fur as dark as the night sky, eyes bright and blood red, a long tail and lastly, two mighty horns on its head.

"This is Thanatos, he's the god of death."

"The god of death?" Kira repeated, her gaze still fixed on the wolf like creature that now laid beside her.

"Yes, he's the assistant of Hades, his job is to collect souls and guide them to the underworld where they get judged for all their doings in life."

"Is that where you are dad?, The underworld?"

"I'm everywhere Hela, and soon I'll come back to you."

Kira didn't quite understand her father's words sometimes, like how could he come back to her when he was dead, but she knew what his answer would be if she asked so she decided not to.

Kira grew very find of Thanatos or shadow as she liked to call him, he was her best friend but it broke her heart that she could only see him in her dreams. Her father said that was because he was strong and she didn't have the power to summon him yet.

She was able to bring the necklace out because it didn't require that much power but this was the god of death so it would be harder. So Kira had to be satisfied with her dream playmate till she was stronger.
