I'm a slime

'I'm bored.'

I was free. I could lay on the bed all day and do nothing, and meanwhile eat better food than I'd ever eaten till this point in this life, and get the best of the treatment. The doctor would visit me two times a day and Ranger would spend his free hours with me.

But that was super boring.

Laying on the bed the whole time in the hot weather of summer in a tiny and humid room... was not exactly enjoyable. I felt like a small slime, rolling on the bed and doing nothing, being melted and absorbed by the bed the more time passes.

"What should I dooooo..."

I moved up from my laying position, sat on my knees, then threw myself to the floor. A fairly loud noise rang out when my body hit the ground and my body, which hasn't healed yet, ached a little bit, however, it was pleasant. The wooden floor was cold unlike my bed and it felt nice sprawling on it even though it was rough, had an uneven surface, and was probably a little bit dirty. I smiled as I rubbed my cheek on the cold wood and rolled around.

Clack

"Ian? What was that sound-"

Old Ranger froze at the door. He stared at me, who was rolling on the ground with a happy silly smile for a few seconds, before asking in a low voice.

"...What are you doing?"

"The floor is cold. It's nice."

I answered honestly. The old man heaved a sigh and closed the door behind him.

"I thought you fell down or something."

"Sorry!"

He walked over to a chair and sat down on it. The old man unbuttoned the upper part of his shirt and pulled down his tie a little bit.

"Come roll around with me if you feel hot!"

Ranger ignored my suggestion.

"How are you feeling?"

"Pretty well!"

No, my body actually hurts a lot, but I don't want to hear more naggings and be forced to rest more in this little place so yeah, I'm fine.

"You still look pale."

"It's my skin tone!"

Ranger heaved a sigh. He fanned himself with... Hey! That's my diary!

"I won't be able to visit you at night so don't forget to take your medicine yourself."

'That's right that I don't care about diaries anymore, but it's still rude to fan yourself with someone else's diary! You changing the subject won't alter my attention from that notebook.'

"Why won't you be able to come at night?"

I responded to the old man without taking my eyes off of the notebook, and he answered me back without stopping the movements of his hand.

"The count had set up a family dinner. I have to attend the young master the whole time."

Ah, this family dinner again! I didn't show that I already knew about this event and instead, faked a surprise.

"A family meeting? Why all of a sudden?"

"He wanted to spend time with young master Alaric before he departs for the ceremony."

"Can't I help you?"

Ranger shook his head with a serious look. He finally put down my diary, tidied his cloth, and got up from the chair.

"You have to rest. I told you, you need to get better until we depart. I should go help young master prepare, see you later."

"Yeah, see you later."

Clack

The door opened and closed and I was once again alone inside the room.

'Haha! Yeah, I'll stay in here the whole time!'

Like hell, I'd do that!

I rolled on the floor once and moved away from my previous spot which has gotten warm by now while thinking about tonight.

'They will be departing to the empire in two days.'

It was the emperor of the neighboring country's birthday in a few weeks. They would give out invitations to the guests prior to the celebration so they all could arrive at the empire by the time the celebration started. As the guests of the great emperor, the people invited to the feast were not allowed to use teleportation to move to the empire. If one teleported there, it would be considered looking down on the emperor and being disrespectful, and that person would get punished severely. Thus, the guests had to move all the way to the capital of the empire by carriages. It would take a long time for them to arrive and they had to spend a lot of money on reserving inns, meals, and everything else, but what could they do about it? It was the empire's order and an order from the empire was absolute.

'I have to sneak out somehow.'

I don't want to go to that ceremony, nor I can go there if I want to have a peaceful life. The things that would happen there... Are not really nice.

'I can somehow run away from the group somewhere before reaching the capital... but before that, I want to know about the young master's memory loss...'

I'd thought about it for the whole day of being a slime on the bed. There was no way what Dr. Reeve said was true about his memory loss. Also, there is no way that my punch did that to him. I first thought he might be acting the whole time. He could be pretending to have lost his memories to lure out his sister and finally catch her red-handed, or he might have other plans, but nope! The young master I saw wasn't acting. I am sure that he was indeed clueless about the situation around him, but I'm also confident that he was hiding something. There are the weird things he mumbles and also the questions he deliberately asks to confirm something, but tries to hide his real intention behind another question.

"I should know what is going onnnnn..."

What if I keep living like this without knowing what is going on with the young master only to get regressed sooner again? I rolled on the ground another time. I'd rolled so many times that I was about to hit the wall when I turned around.

'Isn't this the perfect chance?'

Almost all of the servants will be busy preparing and serving the family. It's just a small dinner, but for the count's house which rarely has such gatherings, this is as much considered an important event. With all of the eyes on such a feast, who would even notice if a sick servant vanished from his room for a few hours, right?

"Hyaap!"

I got up from the floor and dusted my clothes.

'Ah, cloth... Right, I should probably find some suitable clothes for tonight!'

I wonder if a servant had some proper spare cloth in his closet...
