CHAPTER 1
The moon of the fortnight, beating the dark night, was illuminating the premises and sides of the fort. A cluster of stars lit up the scene in the black transparent sky. The outer gates of the fort were closed and the guards were also standing alert at their respective posts. Even in normal situations, every empire and every government is always threatened by traitors and spies. So there was no room for any carelessness here and even a slight mistake could be a precursor to a disaster. The moonlight spread everywhere was creating a beautiful combination with the glow of the lanterns. When the curtains hanging in the verandah fluttered in the breeze, new beauty would have been revealed in this silent environment. But even in this calm environment, someone was very restless. The heart was beating a little faster and she had been waiting for the whole month for the work he had to do today. Hiding behind a pillar, she being waited for the guard to move from his position to enter from one building to another, and was also afraid of someone coming from behind. But there was no chance. If one moved, another guard would immediately appear. And crossing the yard in front of them was sheer folly, because the width of the yard was at least 300 feet, which would have taken at least three minutes to run across, and anyone could have seen during that time. . About half an hour later, when the two guards were busy talking, the creature came out and crossed the courtyard without delay and entered the other building, keeping a constant eye on the guards.
After thanking the Lord, it took her five minutes to regain her breath. But the heartbeat became faster when some kind of noise was heard nearby.
The hit was close enough to pull the ground from her feet. But it was impossible to see anything in the dark. Therefore, she immediately take support of the pillar. And the next time when curtains were blown by the wind, there was a chain hanging by the door in the moonlight, which was sometimes struck by the wind. That gave her some encouragement. Now the journey ahead was of one hour. Which would sometimes take two hours due to the presence of a watchman or a maid on the way. Despite the intense summer, the weather was cold due to rains for some days and when it was cold, the floor of the fort would become like snow. Walking such a distance barefooted on this cold floor was a feat of courage. But the nature of this work was such that for her whether she had to walk on ice or on coals or even for the rest of her life, there was no concern. Approaching her destination, when she felt that there was no more danger, she lit a torch which made the scene somewhat clear. The desolate area where huge banyan trees hung their branches on the ground made the dark scene more terrifying. Everything visible in the light of the torch was a picture of fear. The rustling of leaves underfoot and the screeching of owls and cats from the branches would have convinced anyone that they had made a mistake coming here.
The red long skirt bounced a little due to the step, hiding her face with the corner of a well-fitted dupatta, the woman without bangles and anklets had become accustomed to this environment. For an ordinary person, that place could be very scary and dangerous, but if one could see through her eyes, he would know that all the beauty of the world is confined in that place.
