Chapter 37

Carl had come to believe that, as an adult, he was immune to most forms of fear. But what really gave him the willies was riding shotgun while Ellen drove the Leonardo through the streets of Rome.

As she sped through traffic and negotiated the tight streets of the Eternal City, she laughed hysterically. The sneaky little rascal likely did that on purpose to make him cling to her even more and let her pick up on his fearful aroma.

Although they agreed to go sight-seeing, Ellen insisted on having it her way. She shared the details of her journey to Italy when she was 19; she stayed in Rome for two weeks during their month-long excursion around the country. They hired a Leonardo since she was eager to show him about town. Carl said that despite frequent visits to Rome, he had never taken a tour of the city. She showed him the sights of Rome, including the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and the Vatican.
