A soldiers perspective

One annoying thing about sand besides the fact it gets everywhere and is rought is also the fact it's very itchy. Or at least the flies are. Which is what people often forget about or the strange animals that will hide in your shadow or try to poison you and sleep in your ribcage.

"I swear by Nyx this land is unholy!"-Peneb

This happy chap was a soldier who came from a small tribe who lived under the rule of the Mountain Slammers clan. They protected these clans and supplied them with some materials for their homes and tools. In return, they supplied food and more natural materials to the clan.

Peneb was a simple gather who hunted on his days off from working for his tribe and when he heard the news of an army gathering, he decided to join and get some battle scars.

So he went to the Slammers main base and signed up, and by which he just asked if he could join, and they said sure as nothing is in writing.

A group of young guys and gals followed him, and they all kept together as they knew each other best. It was also because tribes now had their own identity and felt more comfortable with people they knew.

So peneb thought he would maybe walk for a day and then go straight into fighting, which isn't what happened at all. One thing he didtn expect was to clean up crap. Literally, he was on poop duty.

An army need a clean place to go since the blues realised they would get sick very quickly if they didn't clean up. Now they didn't know scientifically why, but it's pretty basic to tell if you live around crap disease will come and those that don't dodge it quite easily. This is compounded when you're in an army where everyone is living close together even if they're spread out.

So life in an army wasn't all just fighting and honouring. It can be very boring and even filthy at times. With so many trying to prove themselves and become the new hero, resentment and jealous would start to brew.

"Why do I have to do this it's so beneath me. I'm supposed to be bleeding by enemies of all their strength and become a once in a generation hunter!"-Peneb

He said this while filling a sand hole and then digging a new one as the others looked on in glee at his mad ravings.

Currently, Peneb was at the bottom of this most basic command structure with their being 4 with the blessed by the top. Next were their loyal followers who organised and planned the movements of the army. Then, finally, you had squad leader and the soldiers themselves.

To Peneb and most others, the blessed were the special few who had been proven worthy of being brought to a higher state of being through either mind or body.

He had seen the one blessed by Nyx, who had 3 guards with him at all times with another 20 followers and priests with him. They all had a strange glint in their eyes when around him and would start smiling whenever he trained with others, showing his newfound skills.

Another 2 blessed were also here, with Renkas being a middle-aged female rixis with blue skin and black hair and eyes. She seemed to be liked by all and never had to ask for anything as her followers would simply give it to her no questions asked.

Peneb made sure to stay away from her as it seemed like she could almost change how you felt about her without even trying like it was something out of her control.

As for Minerva's blessed was a young girl who was no older than 7 who was followed by multiple elders and scholars. Obviously, she wasn't going to fight, and the elders would get in the way even if they could still give a good fight to the enemy. These elders and young blessed would be keeping things organised and help with battle strategy.

Peneb thought to himself that maybe he should try to get in their good graces but realised he was just a basic warrior. When he compared to those who came from the large clans and tribes who had much more skilled fighters.

"Hey Peneb, you're done for the day. Come get some cooked meat and a bit of drink them well be moving again"-Soldier

At least he could leave the sand and lay on the smooth rocks they camped near that had been smoothed over by the desert. He left the hole and plopped down onto his nearby makeshift bed but didn't get much rest before a shadow covered the sunlight.

"Leave me alone, bendruven, I haven't got time for your games!"-Peneb

The shadow was still their so when he opened his eyes, he was surprised to see a young, blessed girls face near his.

"Hello, I'm Valel"-Valel

Peneb couldn't speak and was frozen as the elder behind her watched him with a frown on his face.

"Y..yes hello I apologise for my words blessed one"-Peneb

"You talk well. Have you been to Minervas temple and been taught by the priests?"-Valel

"Um. My mother is a lifetime follower she believed having a good tongue would male you more like the gods and creator"-Peneb

"I imagined so I could use someone like you to give and receive messages. Would you like to come help me?"-Valel

"I'd be honoured"-Peneb

"You're scared? Is it because of my position?"-Valel

"A little bit and your way of speaking"-Peneb

"Oh, what ways that?"-Valel

"Cold and focused like you're studying me"-Peneb

"Well, it looks like you can read people well because that's exactly what I was doing, so I chose the right person"-Valel

"I guess I'll try to do my best blessed one. I hope Minerva will give us the knowledge to conquer our enemies"-Peneb

"Don't worry, she already has"-Valel
