Chapter 157 General Zod
Boom!
As Zod threw a punch, Stephen responded with one of his own. The sheer force of their blows caused the ground beneath them to vanish momentarily, sinking a few centimeters. They paused briefly, only to resume, perfectly synchronizing their strikes with the rhythm of their hearts.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The incredible power within their steel-like bodies became strikingly evident at this moment. Each punch had a profound impact, either sending Zod flying or forcing Stephen to step back a few meters. Their combat ranged from close-quarters to mid-air, making it nearly impossible for the onlookers to keep up with their speed.
Among Zod's fellow Kryptonians, only eleven remained. Two had sought out Superman's mother to inquire about the central codex, two were tasked with initiating the world engine, and two had met their fate at Stephen's hands.
In addition, Faora's whereabouts were unknown. At this point, only three Kryptonians remained, and these three were not seasoned fighters. Their attempts to assist Zod were futile, as they either fell victim to Stephen's fists or his heat vision, inadvertently hindering Zod's performance.
"Kill them all."
Zod barked orders in the direction of the human camp, and the three remaining Kryptonians swiftly responded. Stephen, seemingly indifferent to the human casualties, delivered a powerful punch, sending Zod reeling.
In mid-air, Stephen seized Zod's ankle and swiftly brought him to the ground, then hurled him into the air once more.
Stephen forcefully planted his foot into the ground.
Boom!
The air resonated with a deafening roar as Stephen struck Zod's back. The impact, combined with Zod's residual strength, propelled him upwards into the sky. Stephen pursued, launching another punch.
It felt like playing badminton with a shuttlecock. Every time Zod attempted to regain his balance, Stephen delivered another blow, sending him higher into the atmosphere.
The two figures ascended higher and higher.
Boom!
Stephen soared through the clouds, his heat vision intensifying.
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..." Zod's scream pierced the air as Stephen's heat vision struck him, sending him soaring into the atmosphere like a deflating balloon.
Stephen hovered in the air, waiting patiently. After a few minutes, a streak of searing light plummeted from above.
It was Zod, unleashing his heat vision!
Simultaneously, Stephen unleashed his own heat vision.
Boom!
The collision of their heat vision caused Zod, who had been descending, to convulse violently before reaching a standoff.
Sizzle, sizzle.
Their heat vision clashed, cancelling each other out.
[Unlimited stacking, x2!]
The power of Stephen's heat vision suddenly surged, seemingly swallowing Zod's rays in an instant. The beams grew in size, ebbing and flowing. Stephen's heat vision closed in on Zod.
Zod clenched his teeth, straining to generate more power, but the doubling gap remained insurmountable through sheer effort alone. Stephen's heat vision forcefully pushed back Zod's beam with overwhelming power, resulting in a resounding impact.
The heat vision struck Zod's head, causing him to grimace as white smoke billowed from his singed scalp, and he weakly descended from the sky.
Stephen swiftly closed in, using Zod's back as a platform, gliding downward like a surfer. The descent accelerated, the wind whistling past his ears.
Lowering his gaze, Stephen noticed the cityscape growing closer, with skyscrapers emerging into view. It became evident that he was descending toward a metropolis.
However, the landing spot appeared to differ slightly from his earlier flight trajectory.
In the midst of the bustling metropolis, an enormous black machine loomed, at least thirty-four stories high, with four slender tentacles extending to the ground. A blue beam of energy penetrated deep underground.
On the opposite side of the Earth, a similar device emitted a matching energy surge, with the two energies connecting and initiating a transformation of the Earth's environment.
These devices were the World Engines. Upon activation, they generated a unique magnetic field, causing panic among the city's residents. Cars were sucked into the air by the World Engine's influence.
In a desperate bid to destroy the World Engine, fighter jets approached from a distance, but their efforts proved futile. Even Flightman, unable to bail out in time, crashed and exploded upon reaching the device that was suspended by the World Engine.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Flames shot into the sky, the fighter jets disintegrating and several Flightmen plummeting with flames engulfing them.
"If they don't burn, they'll be thrown to their doom. These guys are really unlucky," Stephen muttered, showing no intent to intervene. He continued to stand on the unconscious Zod, contemplating what might happen if he hurled him at the World Engine.
"Only one way to find out. Three, two, one!" Stephen counted down silently. As the countdown reached its end, Zod was hurled at the World Engine, resulting in a deafening rumble as the device was pierced.
Stephen, riding Zod's body, passed through the World Engine from top to bottom. The beam of light abruptly vanished, and an explosion erupted above his head, while Stephen safely landed beneath the now-disabled World Engine.
"Huh? Could this get any unluckier?" Stephen remarked, noticing a gravely injured individual underneath Zod's body. It appeared to be one of the Kryptonians who had activated the World Engine.
"You're in the wrong place at the wrong time. Let me help you on your way," Stephen declared, lifting his foot and kicking Zod aside. With a firm grip, he snapped the Kryptonian's neck.
"Trajectory!" Stephen called out, and in an instant, the speedster arrived in her red uniform.
"Take care of these remains," Stephen instructed, gesturing to the Kryptonian corpse. Trajectory disappeared in the blink of an eye.
As Stephen prepared to drag Zod away, a sudden figure approached him.
It was Faora, the one who had vanished earlier!
