Chapter nine The engagement

One and three quarter months had passed, Damian had not even seen Sarah, even when completing divorce procedures, Sarah sent her lawyer and when he asked where Sarah was, the lawyer said she was touring around the world. Actually it was true, Sarah had traveled in so many countries within the month she left Damian's house. But one thing was that she was not having fun, all her trips were business trips.

The day of the engagement arrived and Damian made it known to himself that if Sarah comes today, he will make sure to know how she connected with that girl. If he remembered correctly Sarah promised to come to the engagement party.

Anna who was clinging beside Damian felt uneasy, Damian had been looking around more frequently as if searching for someone who was supposed to be here. Ever since Sarah left, they have not seen her again, the bitch did not even have a social media account. Much worse was that Damian seemed to also change, he has been avoiding her and even the engagement was held because of the pressure from his mother. His father said nothing, he never showed his concern to anything after knowing Damian had divorced Sarah. The two of them are welcoming visitors but Anna feels like she is the only one concerned with the guests. Damian noticed a huge group of social media, from different companies, "I thought I said I don't want anything to go public. Why are all these media groups here?"

"I did not invite them maybe your mother or sister invited them."

Damian angrily turned around and was about to leave when Anna held his arms, "Where are you going, the visitors are still coming in!"

"I am going to ask the security to send them away, they should not be here." Damian said indifferently.

"If your mother was the one who invited them, do you think she will allow you to send them away? Instead it will be a great scene here and you would still be on the news, but this time with a very bad headline." As they were talking, someone passed them without them realizing only leaving the sweet familiar scent lingering in their noses. She smiled to herself, she really did not know that Damian didn't want the media here, she had given the media information just for her benefits. That is what Rita her best friend told her to do.

On the other hand, Anna was secretly thanking the stars for the person who invited the media here.

In the middle of the party, the host stood up and said a few words, then a waiter brought a paper forward and whispered something to his ear. The host opened the paper and began to speak, "I am told there is someone who wants to wish her friend a wonderful engagement party just as she had promised before." The moment the host said those words, Anna's palms began to sweat, she knew who it was, and she had a bad premonition. "And her name is Sarah." No one knew Sarah was married and divorced to Damian apart from a few people, but most of the people knew her bad reputation and they all looked at her with disgust as she went to the front.

She took the microphone and said, "Anna I remember in high school I promised you that I would be there at your engagement party no matter what, and I said I would sing a song for you. The theme of this song is "Be yourself." I was supposed to give it to you but it was taken by someone from my locker. The good news is that, I had another copy in my bag. The song goes like this..."

The moment she started to sing, to the moment the song ended, she caught everyone's attention including Damian who had excluded himself from the party, and went to the balcony. The moment he heard Sarah speak, he became very sure that she was the girl he had been looking for. But what was Anna doing at the locker that day?

After she finished singing she said, "now I am sure everything happens for a reason. I wrote this song to you but I never thought that one day it would also apply to me. I can see the media here, I want to take this opportunity to wish you a happy marriage and also to my mysterious locker friend, wherever you are, I want to say you gave me the most memorable days in my life even though we never knew each other. I waited for you where we agreed to meet but you never came, but now it's all in the past."

Anna became restless and started to look around to see whether Damian was around the crowd and when she was about to sigh in relief after confirming Damian's absence, she suddenly saw a figure rushing down the stairs, his eyes focused on Sarah who was walking toward the door. He was passing the guest and bumping with them but still his focus was on Sarah. Anna came up with an idea.

Sarah walked to the front door and picked a call. "Martin."

She was silent for a while and after listening to the person on the other side, she said, "I did not ask you to call McCain to come." She listened tentatively to the person on the other side then said, "wait for her then, she will give you orders on what to do then.." After she finished speaking she walked to the gate and left, without even turning to look back.

Damian was waiting for her to finish making the call, but when he was about to call her, Maddie came crying and said their mother just fainted and after she became conscious, she started calling his name.

Anna on the other side went to make a phone call.
